We got Pawpaw (blue point Tonkinese) as a 10 week old kitten last year in May and right from the start she was our little baby. She was easily the most beautiful cat I’ve ever met and had me wrapped around her little paws in no time at all.
We got her as a friend for our 9year old Tonkinese Smegal who at first wasn’t all that delighted. She adored him and after a while he warmed to her and they cuddled and cleaned each other every so often.
Pawpaw was quite a chatty cat (of course), really funny and loved me so much that she would sleep inside my jacket when I studied, under the blanket in my arms at night or sit on my shoulder, keeping an eye on what was happening. She gave me licks and gently nibbled my arm in the morning to wake me up, loved stealing socks and collecting them in her box and had this hilarious side-ways run when she tried to play with Smegal.
She also loved being outside and climbing on trees. Sometimes she was too scared to come down but would happily climb onto my outstretched arm and hold on to my shoulder until she felt safe to explore again.
Unfortunately at 8 months old, Pawpaw was hit by a car and died. It broke our hearts and we still miss her terribly. She was our little baby and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Tom is the owner of 4 amazing cats, and using the Daily Kitten he provides a place for cat and kitten lovers to share the love for their own cats and kittens.
Oh, no, why didn’t you keep her indoors? Poor little kitten.
Sad story about beautiful Pawpaw.
oh my, what a sad, sad story. Condolences to you on your loss, she was beautiful and sounded very sweet and loving. You may have only had her in your home for a short time, but you’ll always have her in your heart
So sorry for your loss!
I’m so sorry for the loss of beautiful Pawpaw. Such a lovely kitten. Thankfully, you have this incredible picture, happy memories, and a spot for her in your heart.
Sorry you had to go through that. More sorry for the cat. Lesson in all this is not to let your cats outside. Saves pain for all involved.
What a special tribute with many happy memories of Paw paw a beauty with special catitude. Today she is our little twinkling heavenly Star-kit of the day at TDK!
She looks like a very loving, adoring little creature. I’m sure you are always snuggling her in your memories.
RIP Pawpaw!!
Paw Paw was a beautiful girl. All of my cats are indoors only to protect them from cars, raccoons, foxes and dogs.
Beautiful girl…
Paw Paw was a loving and sweet baby. It doesn’t take long for a kitty to capture your heart forever. I’m so sorry for your loss.
What a terrible loss of such a wonderful sounding kitty. My siamese likes to steal sox too.
PawPaw was a very loving, special girl – as Bobosmom said, she quickly captured your heart. My heart goes out to you for your loss.
I have to agree with some of the other comments about cats being kept indoors. With the threat of wild animals, cars and mean people, I don’t understand why people allow their pets outside unsupervised. Paw Paw was a beautiful cat and much too young to die.
that is so sad. yeah i would miss my cat alot if something happened to her and probably wouldn’t want to get another one or at least for a long time.
What a beautiful kitten. Please folks, keep you pets, inside! This should haven never ahve happened.!!!A terrible loss, for all.
Oh I had a sickening feeling at the beginning of that, that your sweet baby was no longer with you. I’m so sorry. Sometimes these angels are far too good to stay on earth for very long. You know you were blessed and she is playing and waiting for you in heaven.
Let’s not make the OP feel worse in light of an already sad situation. Thank you for sharing your sweet kitten and so sorry for your loss. This was a loved cat!
PawPaw is absolutely beautiful. I’m so sorry for your loss.
US readers may not understand that in New Zealand virtually all pet cats are inside/outside cats and it is, in fact, regarded as cruel to keep them inside all the time (a difference in culture, I know). There are no natural predators here, no foxes, wolves, coyotes, raccoons, in fact the cat itself is the predator, and the main reason for keeping cats inside would be to protect our natural birdlife from them. Most of our roads are small and quiet compared to overseas roads and most of our backyards are big enough so that many cats are happy not to wander too far. We don’t have rabies, and though there are mean people everywhere and although busy roads are always a danger, they are not quite the dangers they may be in other much bigger cities. All Kiwi owners must weigh up the danger of cars against the delight that our cats get from being able to spend most of their time outside, and make their own decisions.
PawPaw was a very beautiful kitty – RIP. Thank you jcat for the cultural education. I was not aware that New Zealand kitties are mostly indoor/outdoor pet and the reasons are compelling.
So sorry for PawPaw’s family and hope they have more kitties to love.
No worries, Beachcomber. I should add that most of us try to keep our babies indoors at night 🙂
I know how you feel and am so sorry for your loss. Pawpaw was your baby who brought you love and affection. You returned it in kind and should know that Pawpaw remembers and is waiting across the rainbow bridge. http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm
Thank you for sharing Pawpaw with us. She sounds like a wonderful kitten. She will stay alive in your heart while she waits for you across the Rainbow Bridge.
Not very dangerous. And yet the cat is dead from being hit by a car. How more dangerous can it be than potentially fatal? I respect cultural differences, and the right of people to make their own choices. Bottom line, though, the beloved cat was killed by a car. Sad. My condolences.
I am so sorry for your loss. I know that hind-sight is 20/20.. but PLEASE keep your cats indoors. You’ll save yourself so much heartache.
