POUNCE!!
POUNCE!!!
Terrific Tuesday, TDKers!
what an absolutely heartbreaking story. i am so sorry to hear about little Daisy. Our cat of 10 years was also a victim to a car, so our family never lets their cats out, ever. My condolences to the breeder and Daisy’s family.
How sad, what a beauty Daisy Duke was. I am sure she gave lots of pleasure in her short life span.
What a beautiful cat and so tragic for her to go so young. We also keep our kitties in the house – there is a beautiful hawk that lives in the neighborhood and I always worried that a little kitten would look too much like a meal. Thank you for sharing lovely little flower Daisy and I pray that she is playing in sunshine over the rainbow
Why was such a lovely kitten left out on the roads to play. Wasn’t she beautiful.
I knew little Daisy and her breeder worked like an absolute demon to keep her alive when she was only a few weeks old. Her and her brother Bo were both very ill. The breeder and her husband took shifts feeding/medicating them every 45 mins for 5 days. Both pulled through but we were all gutted that this then happened.
To all those saying she should have been kept inside :
It’s not cut and dried, indoor cats can suffer from obesity, low metabolism, bordom, compusive behaviors, heart problems due to inactivity.
Outdoor cats are exposed to other dangers.
Daisy happened to live in a rural, low traffic area in Britan where we don’t have the same predators you have in the US.
She was well looked after and well loved in her short life.
Glad you replied to all the comments on keeping cats in. It isn’t cut & dry! Why can’t people just have simpathy for anothers loss! I am sorry for the loss & all the unkind comments. Casper
To Mysty: You have my deepest sympathy for this terrible and sudden loss. 🙁
I do want to say, that as an owner of indoor cats, I’ve had to accept the responsibility of providing exercise and stimulation for my kitties. This is much the same as the responsibility that zoos accept when they keep wild animals in spaces smaller than their natural habitats. The cats can be very happy, and avoid the issues that you mention, but we as owners just have to live up to our side of the bargain.
In my mind this is the same sort of responsibility that the owner of an outdoor cat has to be realistic about poisonous plants, predators, and cars and what they’ll do if something happens. It’s just trying to make sure that you make the best of the risks you take.
To Casper: No one is always wrong, but I think it’s a bit harsh to slap people down for wondering why she was an outdoor kitten, since an explanation wasn’t given in the original post. (JerseyGirl could probably have been more diplomatic… but she is working on a different set of assumptions about the world, and it’s better to educate her than to polarize the situation. There are a lot of people in this country who campaign for keeping cats indoors because the risk factors are so totally opposite in many places here and it’s not really fair to expect them to just magically know what the situation was. ):
to everyone:
Thanks for the comments and sympathy, i
I spoke to the breeder and she was in tears at her desk again. she’s going to let the owners know that little Daisy has been picked as a DK. (Thanks Kittenmaster)
to Casper/valleyviolet
Thanks for the comments, re indoor/outdoor. I’ve had both, my last outdoor cat was killed on the roads over 18 years ago so when we got our two little fur babies last year there was no way I was going to let them outside, we are in a city, there is a main road nearby and too may little brats that might hurt them.
They get access to our tiny garden which has been cat proofed (I can reccomend fruit cage netting to anyone trying to do the same, it’s cheap, tough, easy to fix in place and seems to do the job) but I really want to move to more rural location with a bigger garden that we can fully fence.
I worry about them being in the house inspite of everything we do, but I know I’d never forgive myself if anything happened to them.
Oh what a sad wittle kitty story! May Daisy rest in peace..my heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved daisy! These stories are so sad!
So sorry for your loss. She is such a beauty. Please, there are too many dangers outside including traffic, disease and parasites. As much as your kitties love it, they learn to do just as well being an indoor cat and their people get to avoid just such heartbreaks.
Oh no! This is a beautiful picture of a beautiful kitten. She looks like Jiggs when he was a baby. I hope he found her at the Bridge and they will play together.
I’m so sorry for little lynx-eared Daisy and your sad loss. May my Watson protect her over the rainbow bridge.
When living in a rural area, a neighbor boy of 13 was racing his dad’s car and saw my kitten playing off the road. He actually drove the car off the road and into a ditch to hit her. Another neighbor witnessed it but refused to tell me his name. I cried for days. My other, older cat, Watson, had loved the kitten and would sit where she was killed and yowl a sad song for weeks. It’s been over 20 years and I’m still shaken by the cruelty. Some losses stay with you forever.
Oh my – what a horrible thing to happen! I will never understand how anyone can intentionally harm any animal much less a kitten. My husband shares a similar haunted memory. He was driving one day and saw a dog on the other side of the road and a driver changed lanes to run it down. My husband was horrified and is still haunted by this scene – and he didn’t even know the dog. God created a place for people that are cruel to animals and many people judge time by when that place will freeze over.
I do security work and one night while in the cruiser saw someone try to run over a kitten in the road. Short story: Kitten was saved, I caught up to the person and detained them til the OKC Police got there. Person was arrested for DUI and cruelty to animals (His attempt was caught on our dash cam). End of story? Nope.. Lucky now has a new purrever home with a friend of mine and his wife.
I’m really proud of you! It makes up for so many little ones who’ve been killed by hateful, mindless people. Thanks for sharing.
What a tragedy to lose such a beautiful baby girl.
She looks like my Stirling, big eyes, big ears, big heart !
Bobosmom, people can be so cruel and malicious to animals, it makes me angry and sad.
That’s so sad, what a beautiful little fluffball she is.
I agree, what was she doing outside where she could get hurt.
I keep my furballs indoors, and they have a petdoor to my second floor balcony, where they have a tall scratching post, 2 litter boxes, a Condo, and are totally protected by plexiglas going up the railing so they cannot get on the railing and jump or fall off. Not to mention they own my house, and me.
It breaks my heart that this little beauty did not have time to grow and show a caring family that she was special.
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do FUZZ
Shouldn’t have happened this way FUZZ
This is so sad…Poor Daisy should have stayed indoors.
My heart is broken. What a sweet love. Sometimes these babies are just too sweet to stay on earth for very long. My heart aches for the people who adopted her.
Poor Daisy! She was a special girl, too good for this world. {{{hugs}}}
OH NO! Not another one to perish because she was let outside!Look at that sweet face, it makes me FURIOUS! Most no-kill shelters won’t let you adopt if you won’t keep them inside, and rightly so! I know, and Kirsten can verify, Purebred Cat Rescue requires you to sign a contract to that fact, including a “no declawing” clause.
Poor little Daisy Duke, she was such a beauty.
Sheba’s Mom, here in the UK it’s the norm to have indoor/outdoor cats, purely indoor cats is far more the exception than the rule. Shelters here discourage adoptions from people who live near busy roads (unless the cat is to be an indoor one). I have lost cats to the road in the past, but still would not restrict one to indoors only. Please don’t be furious, it can’t help the owners devastation.
Loosing a pet is always a tragidy. We have had many pets over the yrs. & some have been killed. But keeping a cat or kitten inside isn’t always easy. We moved to the foothills of the Smoky Mtns. a yr.& ahalf ago w/2 older cats who are no longer w/us because of illness. In the time we’ve lived here we’ve been blessed w/9 cats & kittens. We’ve tried to keep them in but because they are feral or off of ferals they want stay in w/o destroying things. So sorry to here about Daisy!
I almost with I hadnt read this one…but I am glad Daisy had a debut on the daily kitten — she deserved it. Poor baby… she’ll be missed.
This is such a very sad story. Poor Daisy Duke. We have many of our furbabies over the bridge that she’s no doubt made friends with by now. Sniff..sniff..I’m out of tissues..someone hand me one please. 🙁
I know British folks feel a little different about letting their cats come and go. After having cats for over 55 years and losing them to neighbor dogs, coyotes and cars, I now keep mine inside unless I can be with them every second. They are far too precious to me to lose, and I think it took me far too many years to wise up.
What a beautiful fur baby. So sad about her tragic ending. May she be at rest at the Bridge.
I too, have had to learn the hard way about no outside kitties..my beloved Happy who would FIGHT me, biting my ankles to keep him inside never came home from one of his outings a few months ago..it is killed me and ripped my heart out. He was forever in love with my father who i lost just weeks before Happy…I am so sorry for this loss, i never knew the dangers the “indoor/outdoor” kitty faced until Happy… i sure wished i would have known before i ever let him outside! I will never, ever again let my kitties go outside unless harnessed
We are sorry for your loss. You have broken our hearts and make us see how lucky we are. You had a beautiful baby. Remember, you loved for a short while. But you loved with all your heart. You made that little life a happy one.
awww hes so precious!
I am so sorry for you, I don’t know what it is like to lose a cat, Yet. But I have a cat that is twelve years old. And is getting older by the minutes. Sometimes you don’t realize there getting older and somtimes you just take the time to think.
