I want him!!! π
You can’t have him. What a pretty boy.
I’ll fry you some bacon if you let me have him!
Or, are we going to have to ‘Duke’ it out?
*groaning in disbelief at own nerdness!*
LOL, FondaHonda, “Duke” it out. HA, HA
Actually, I was thinking more like John Wayne with his stance and tough look.
*sneaks away with Duke while Huddy’s Mama and HondaFonda are throwing punches and bacon*
His expression does remind me of John Wayne!!! What a great observation!
A “listing to port” swagger.
*snorts while laughing*
*chowing down on bacon while HM is snorting and laughing*
*chokes on coffee while watching the hilarity*
Trips Ladykat and takes Duke to the sharing circle
*ouch!* *rubbing knee while watching as ppearson takes Duke to sharing circle*
Sorry, will some chocolate make the knee feel better? *hands ladykat some yummy chocolate*
Why is it that some kittens look like the essence of innocence, and others (like Raoul and Diego) look like pure mischief!
Good morning everyone!!!
Afternoon, Bumblebee. How’s the weather up there?
Lynn,
The weather is very sunny and hot. Have the AC on.
It’s always nice to see you posting. π
I am off today, but was busy doing things, so just came back on.
Everyone is fine here. How about you, my PA. buddy? π
Hey, hot here too! 90’s for the rest of the week. I know we are on different time schedules, but good to talk to you. Sorry for the “memory lapse”. Where are you in PA again?? My PA buddy, none the less! Thanks for the shoutout. Talk soon. Stay well. Hugs and Purrs. Love Lynn
HOW CUTE!!!
Morning everyone!
Hi Jennifer!
I love the white boots!
Wobbly, “What did I do last night?” FUZZ. π
or “Did I have to wake up, Mom?” fuzz
Good Morning TDK! Just letting you all know Camo is home safe and dry! I took some of your suggestions yesterday, we walked the neighborhood and talked to all the neighbors, but no one had seen him. My son made posters, but we couldnΓ’β¬β’t put them up, too much rain.
So we kept calling him. Thunderstorms were, again, intense yesterday afternoon so I was getting really worried. My sons and I called him after every crackling and booming from the thunderstorm, I called him when it was pouring, when it was just sprinkling, I kept calling him every ΓΒ½ hour to hour. Finally in the evening when the thunder stopped he went to my sonΓ’β¬β’s bedroom window!
Believe it or not, I have had cats my entire life, and never have I had one run on me, until Camo!
So thank you to all for your positive energy, your great humor and your warm prayers.
Artistabobbi, I posted a message for you early this morning under Raoul and DiegoΓ’β¬β’s picture, sending you prayers and a thank you.
Excellent news! I’m glad he made it home safe and sound.
I’m so glad Camo came home, I was worried and thought about this last night.
Thank goodness, and snuggle Camo closer for all of us this morning!
Fantastic news!!! Poor baby must have been terrified of the storm.
Oh, that is WONDERFUL news that Camo came home!!! Hooray!!
Again thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!
Now, to just kinda wiggle my way into the the sharing circle to hug this very cute little Duke!
What wonderful news! Give Camo a snuggle from me. Digit and Furl send purrs and headbonks.
Glad Camo made it home safely! Maybe he won’t be so eager to go outside anymore.
Great news! Glad he’s back home safely.
great news! our prayers were answered!
So very glad to hear that Camo made it home safely. I know you are relieved. What a way to start my day! Stay safe, Camo! Hugs and purrs to you all.
Prayers are answered!!!!!!! Extra hugs and nip for Camo
Oh, that is great news – I was just going to post and as you if Camo had found his way home yet. Hugs to him!
That is such great news that Camo is home safe and sound. Give him a big hug from me & my bunch.
Also, what a cute baby today, he is so handsome.
Amen!
That’s wonderful! Give him kisses and a BIG [hug}.
Fantastic! I am so happy that he came home!
Hurray!!! What a relief to have him home – safe and sound!
YAY! So glad he is safe, warm, and HOME!
So happy Camo is home-just sent him a treat!
Oh good! Glad to hear Camo is home!
Hoooorraaayyyy! π Hugs to him!
I am so happy for you!
What wonderful news!!!! Tell him not to scare his humans (and his TDK extended family of humans) like that again!
You are probably already gone but I had to jump in and say how thankful I am that Camo is home safe and sound. He probably wished he never stepped a paw out of the house! He might think twice during the next storm and hide under a cozy bed instead.
I want him! Please pack him up and send him to me! I’ll pay the express shipping charges!
No, let me have him! I’ll let my employer pay the charges!! The Ups # is ——–!!!!!!!!!!!! HM, can I have some bacon, too?
*Brings eggs, ham, sausage, home fries toast and oj to the sharing circle-patiently waits turn with Duke*
I will share the bacon with ya!
*snuggling some more with Duke*
Thanks, HM!
So CUUUUUTEE!!!! I want one!
i want him!
John Wayne FUZZ?
What an adorable photo!
That is just the sweetest little face. I’m in love. Shhhhhh don’t tell mine.
Lovely little Duke this morning!! I had a ragdoll mix cat until he passed over the rainbow bridge last year at age 17. He was such mellow cat and holds a special place in my heart.
Time to bring the donuts, fresh and hot. There’s also tea with your choice of lemon slices, peach slices, or raspberries. There’s also kielbasa with onions and sweet peppers, scrambled eggs with cheese, whole wheat toast with blackberry jelly, and hash browns.
God bless you !!! I’ll add chocolate in any form or amount…Chocolate does wonders for my soul…
Thank goodness that one can’t get fat or raise one’s blood sugar on a virtual feast !!!
And let’s not forget, e-food is completely nutritious.
Mmmm… Kielbasa – that’s something new to me. I have to give it a try…
Mmmmm – Doooonuuuuutssss…… *Homer Simpson voice complete with drooling*
Sounds like a nice breakfast. I’ll have scramble eggs with cheese (gruyere or swiss please), fresh orange juice, whole wheat toast with blackberry jam and some tea with milk please.
Hey all. Sylvester is Catsters’s cat of the day. Check him out at http://www.catster.com and see my handsome boy! I am so proud of him right now. π
Yeah, go Sylvester!
Sweet boy. Gracie, Emma and Thierry want to be friends
Sylvester-you rock, kitty! What a beautiful tuxie-now don’t let that go to your head or anything. By the way, sent a treat for you!!
Congratulations, Sylvester! I love the photo of him with the glowing eyes. π
Thank you all for the nice comments. Sylvester thanks you as well. I will go and respond to the friends invites. Hugs and purrs.
He is a mighty handsome boy! Congratulations Sylvester!
Morning all, glad to see lil Duke who is a true cutie.
boyzandme, glad that Camo came back home…he was just scared, let’s hope that next time he just hides someplace in the house. My oldest baby (Max) hid the other day during a particular dark storm in-between the couch and bookstand (about 6″ space)…he is a big boy being 14 lbs, so you can imagine the fear he had to squeeze in there.
Everyone have a great day…
Yeah, Camo’s a big one too. I guess he felt he needed more space to hide.
Unfortunately, we haven’t seen the last of the big thunderstorms, we are now officially in Monsoon season, so we will get them now every afternoon for a while.
Huddy hides under the couch sometimes. It’s amazing that he can squeeze himself under there. Pretty funny to watch though.
Heh. I knew a Great Dane who used to try to hide under the coffee table. The only problem was that even when she was able to get underneath it successfully, she’d forget that it was over her and when she got up to walk away, the coffee table walked with her.
π
Adorable! Just look at those blue eyes and his little white boots!
rag dolly π
Hi Brandi Lee – I’ve been thinking of you and sending you purrs and hugs.
Love Joan

Brandi Lee how are you doing? How about an update about that grandbaby? Are you enjoying the new little bundle of joy? Remember my thoughts are with you.

Hello, all. I wanted to let you know that I recieved a letter today from the Burke County Friends for Animals thanking me for my donation. If some of you are new, I put out a challenge. In hindsight, I realize that this was not a smart move. I made many of my friends here feel guilty that they could not step up to the challenge. They were just trying to get by day to day, or had many other animals they were trying to take care of, or just couldnΓ’β¬β’t. I never meant this to be a contest of any kind. I donΓ’β¬β’t know what I was thinking at the time. I just knew that I wanted JerryΓ’β¬β’s memory to live on forever. I donΓ’β¬β’t know why, only knew him from here, but the longer you stay here, you know each person that you connect to. Anyway, it was my wish that he have a plaque with his name on it, in a Γ’β¬Εcat houseΓ’β¬Β! It looks like it will be a Γ’β¬ΕKitten HouseΓ’β¬Β! So much the better! I will call tomorrow (they have limited phone hours) to see how much has been donated so far, as alot of you have asked. I will make monthly payment to JerryΓ’β¬β’s kitten house to make sure that the babies we are sponsoring get good and loving homes. Again, I want to thank you all who donated and all who may donate in the future. To keep a former friend who no longer can post, happy to take care of those we entrust into his care when they go over the bridge for me, is a small price to pay.
I remember BO, who was in dire straits and needed help. We all steppped up, to get him help. We help each other. Just as Susie asked for help for Julie, so many of you came to ask, could we paypal or send money to the vet. Do you have any idea, how comforting that was for her? Knowing that she may not take you up on it, didnΓ’β¬β’t stop you all from offering. You all are the best.
Susie, know that Julie is in our beloved ChesterΓ’β¬β’s arms and holding you, saying she is ok.
I will keep his memory alive for as long as I live in donations to this wonderful shelter. Dee, canΓ’β¬β’t say enough. Thank you, dear friend, for finding this wonderful shelter. God Bless.
Have a good night, all. Sleep well and comfort for those who need it, and purrs and hugs to all the furbabies out there. Til tomorrow. Hugs and purrs, Lynn
Thanks, Dee. I am going to call the shelter today. They don’t open til noon. Hopefully I will be able report the donation total this afternoon.
Thanks for that, Lynn. Toni said she could give us a more accurate total at the end of the month–perfect timing! I would love to tour her shelter one day.
Hello, all. I just got off the phone with Toni Davis at Burke County friends for animals. She has proudly told us that we have donated $730 to date for “Chester’s Place”! Way to go, group! She said she will be going to the plaque maker in the morning to have his plaque made. It will take about 2-3 weeks. She will then send photos of it to Dee, (hope that’s ok) so she can put up them here on the website. She said that the plaque will read, “Chester’s Place” “Donated by the TDK website” and placed on one of their catteries. She’s a very nice lady and I thanked her again for her help. She in turn, thanked us for all the good the money will do to help the kitty’s.
So, hopefully, next month we will see the results of Chester’s place. God Bless you all. Hugs and purrs Lynn
Go TDKers! I’m proud of you all.
Lynn–that is great news! And thanks again for your generous offer. I’m sure Toni was very pleased with the donation.
I swear, I’m not trying to make any trouble here, but does “donated by dailykitten.com” get the site name out there better and make it clearer that TDK is a kitten site? And there will be no question that Chester and everyone who donated want to help the kittens at the shelter.
Dee, forgive me. In my haste to get the post up I eliminated that. You are correct. Donated by the daily kitten.com. is what she said. So sorry for the confusion. I am at work and jumping back and forth to the computer like a madwoman. Sorry for the mix-up. If you would like to call Toni to double check, that would be great. Hugs and Purrs.
Thanks Kittenmaster for the praise!
Kittenmaster, it is to you that we owe the thanks. You started this website and put it out there for all of us to see and join. Were it not for you, we wouldn’t have known Jerry or the any of the rest of us. Because of you, we have become a sharing family of friends. It is to you, kind sir, that I extend my thanks.
Besides, imagine peoples faces when you tell them how many “relatives” you have! If you count us all, you have a very large family!! Hugs and Purrs, Lynn
Lynn, I am so proud of you! I will help as often as I can! and please remember how proud Chester would be at the help we are giving to the fur babies. He’s taking care of the ones that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and we take care of the ones here. Love to All Terri
Lynn, your comment to KM brought tears to my eyes. Thank you and thank everyone who has helped make Chester’s memorial possible. And thanks to every single TDK person (and kitty kat) for being such a great bunch of people (and cats).
What a great success! Chester/Jerry must be smiling. Way to go TDKers!
I am so honored to be in a community that is so kind and loving to its member when we are only virtually connected. God Bless you Lynn, Dee, and to the esteemed KittenMaster. God Bless all the Men and Women that have created the TDK community.
Lynn, you are truely a wonderful person and I, as well as everyone here at TDK, thank you for all you do and have done. There are so few good people left in this world today and I feel honored to know you.
Take care my friend
Head bonks, purrs, and love to you!
And to you in return! If you are ever down my way, we’ll have to get together. Hugs and purrs, Lynn
What part of PA?
I live in Doylestown, about 2 hours south of you. Are you familiar with the town of New Hope? I’m just north of that. Hope that answers your question. Hugs and Purrs.
Have I heard of them? sure.
Do I know where they are? nope.
Maybe someday I will venture South. Or you can venture North. Everybody knows how to get to the good ol’ W-B.
I just may have to come to you then! We’ll talk about that later. thanks, friend. Hugs and Purrs and a good nights sleep.
I just got home from my brother’s place in Greentown, PA, and owe apologies to all the TDK’rs, as neither my brother nor I could find the shoo-fly pie recipe I promised earlier this summer. We both know it’s there, somewhere, along with my great-grandmother’s apple fritter recipe written in Pennsylvania Dutch, so I’ll ask you all to be patient, and I’ll get it into the recipe file when I can.
I was born in Chestnut Hill, grew up in Oreland and Lansdale, and consider myself a Pennsylvania girl to this day. Thanks, as ever, to the Kittenmaster, and blessings to the newly returned Camo. It’s nice to be back after three weeks on the road!
Fogfoot, Lansdale??? I was born in Lansdale, lived my childhood years in Lansdale, Hatfield and Kulpsville. Any chance our paths may have crossed?? Would love to see the recipes if you can find them, as well as all the Tdk’ers would too. Some good eats there. If you would like, you could email at rucruc2004 at yahoo dot com to talk further. Jake is a screen name, don’t let it think you hit the wrong one! Hugs and Purrs, Lynn
**Safety: Fleas and Ticks**
We all learned from the Menu Foods debacle that things that seem safe sometimes aren’t. Be extremely careful about flea and tick products. Some contain ingredients backlogged for evaluation by the EPA that some experts believe may be toxic to your cat’s nervous system. The ingredients to beware of are carbamates and organophosphates, including chlorpyrifos, dichlorvos, phosmet, naled, tetrachlorvinphos, diazinon, malathion, carbaryl, and propoxur. Consult with your vet before using any flea- or tick-fighting product. And never use one on a sick, pregnant, or very young or old cat or apply a dog spray or powder on your cat.
I have a flea/tick question: my vet tells me that since Bob resides indoors, he doesn’t need flea/tick medicine. Is this true? I do take him out every now and then into the back yard on a leach for 15 minutes or so to satisfy his curiosity about the big outdoors. I found it odd that I was told he didn’t need the stuff – I’ve always given it to my other indoor cats!
That is odd that your vet says that Bob does not need flea control, especially since he is outside for a few minutes now and then. My 3 have not been outside since I rescued them as young kittens, yet Atticus had tapeworm about a year ago. My vet said that we can pick up fleas on our clothing and bring them into our cats. She regularly has to flea bomb her car because she picks up so many fleas from the animals that she treats. Plus, fleas love dark places that the sun does not reach, like bushes and tall grasses/ornamentals that may be near the points of entry to your house.
Before I even had a cat I had fleas. I fed squirels on the patio and had two bird feeders. When I would go out to water the plants or feed the critters I must of had them on my legs and didn’t notice. The one time I saw black spots on my legs and bent to brush them off thinking it was dirt from the plants was I surprised when the dirt jumped off when my had touched my legs. Who knows how many times I carried them in.
Speaking of the birds and squirrels I had something chewing on the leaves of the plants. I asked the grounds keeper for a non toxic way of getting rid of whatever was feasting on the leaves. He told me to mix hot sauce with water in a spray bottle it worked whatever was eating the leaves took one bite of the hot sauce and didn’t do it again. Reapply after it rains.
As I had posted before, fleas can attach themselves to your clothing when you are outside, so even indoor only cats need flea protection.
My little darlings never go out. but because they reside with two dogs (although one dog thinks he is a cat–another story) they have to be treated.
Thanks for posting this. Be sure to watch your animals carefully after giving them the treatment. I recently treated my 12yo mini Daschund Charlie with a brand i had not used before. He woke up in the middle of the night whining and restless. I had no idea what the problem was. He wasnt itching or scratching. I finally gave him several bath at 4 am which called him a little but he still was in discomfort another couple of hours. I read the package and only the usual minor side effects were listed for the application spot. I called the company and they said it was common for smaller dogs to have a needles and pins feeling all over after the application even if using the appropriate dosage for the size of the dog. I certainly would not have given it to him if i knew of this side effect, poor little guy.
Just be careful when treating and be sure to talk with your vet if you are changing brands.
Wow–I’ve never heard about the needles and pins feeling smaller dogs may have. The company should certainly list that on their packaging!
Is tere a particular brand anyone can recommend. I used to use Frontline or Advantage with other cats, but that was a while ago. Did someone say yesterday that you can now get Frontline OTC?
Does little Bob need any kind of worm prevention, as well? My vet said no, but then again, he said no to the flea stuff, too…….
Can’t spell today! First post was supposed to say “leash”, second “there”. I’m running out to go walk a dog I’m dog-sitting, better pick up some coffee, too!!
It was I who told you about Frontline–it is now available without prescription. I have switched to Revolution which needs a prescription here in the US, but I get it online from Canada where no prescription is required. The flea product that is dangerous is made by Hartz, the one that is applied like Frontline. I have read many stories of cats that have died from Hartz, I don’t know how they can still sell that crap.
It is called corporate greed. Look at China selling products that kill humans and animals alike.
Sheba’s mom – what made you switch? Is Revolution better than Frontline? Does Frontline have any side effects?
I didn’t have any knowledge of Revolution until I got Patches at 5 weeks old–she had fleas and all the other products were for older kittens. The vet gave me Revolution and it was then I found out it is not just for fleas but ticks, worms, and ear mites! I now use it instead of Frontline (which I never had a problem with) because it’s the same price and does more.
Oh it’s also for heartworm.
Don’t know if it’s good for anything but fleas, but I just took my older Emma and new (formerly foster) kitten to the vet and discovered Samantha had fleas. He gave them both a shot of Program, good for 6 months. Said it was very safe and effective.
He is so precious! We can’t go on the internet on Mondays so I was just reading yesterday’s posts. I must say I am overwhelmed. So much intensity. Susie and Artistabobbisox, you have my sincerest sympathies.
I’m glad Camo came home. That is a scary experience.
As for Kittyman, we lived through that, LeeAnne. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I still feel tremendous guilt for all that we put my precious baby through for “sinus” problems only to have an autopsy show he had cancer. Never never never again. I have a lifetime of karma to make up for that little guy. For both of you I send peace.
Sweetie, you did your very best with the information you had. We can’t stay the hand of death, no matter how much we try, and Death comes to cardinals and commoners, kings and cats. We love them and keep them as safe as possible, and then we learn to let them go to God.
Don’t feel guilty. Some things cannot be stopped.
Sharon, you did your best, and nobody can ask for more than that. I had a cat, Bunky, who developed what was clearly a tumor in his nose. There’s really very little that can be done, in such cases. Surgery’s likely to damage their sense of smell so much that they won’t eat afterward, and both radiation and chemo are contraindicated. After Bunky quit eating altogether for more than 4 days in a row, despite being tempted with his favorite foods, I decided I wasn’t going to let him starve to death. Poor guy; I wish I could have done more for him.
Thank you both. We treated him like a guinea pig with multiple surgeries and practices from the dark ages. And for nearly two years. And he never complained once. He was the most awesome cat that ever graced this planet. So for LeeAnne I want a peaceful resolution that causes no distress for her or Kittyman. So whatever I can do to help I will. My little Desperado will appreciate it.
Through it all Desperado knew he was loved. He knew you would never subject him to those medical procedures unless you thought it was the best thing for him. He didn’t complain because he loved and trusted you. What a beautiful bond you had with him. You inspire me!
Sharon – I think some of these kitties are sent to us for learning, each teach us not only how to love better, but how to do things better and smarter in the future. We also learn that the guilt we feel can to be channeled to positive action. I think little Desperado is most definitely smiling down on you and all you have accomplished since he was here lovingly teaching you.
Oh, Sharon you truely are a great person. Thank you so much. Prayers and good will to you. I know at the time you did your best, that is all any of us can hope to do. I’m tearing up here…In my book(and Camo’s) you have made up a lot of Karma with your very warm heart!
Sharon please let go of the guilt. Remember you did the very best for Kittyman with the knowledge you had. There was no way to know. You must also remember Kittyman–he never looked at you with anything but love. He didn’t need to worry because he had you to love him. Your karma reflex your love for Kittyman and that is all he wanted was for you to love him through it all.
Sharon, you did all you could do. Your baby knew you were doing the best for him. It’s time to let go of the guilt you feel, although it had nothing to do with you. You gave him a wonderful life and he thanks you every day. Look around, he is still with you. I wish you comfort and peace. You did good, girl. He knows it. Hugs and purrs and love, Lynn
Duke, you are sooooooooooooooo CUTE! Vicki the food sounds wonderful and i would like to have one of each. everyone have a good day!
You know that ring back service they offer from companies like Verizon and Srpint where when someone calls you instead of hearing a ring they get to hear your favorite song or some song that is “so you”
I hate that stupid service. Just give me a ringing sound so I don’t have to listen to someone elses lousy taste in music.
cute kitty π
I hear you Instinct! When I am in a store and cell phones go off, I feel as though my head is in the middle of a mixed up jukebox. Rings work for me too. My best to the wife-woman.
π Thanks, I’ll tell her.
Move is making things crazy and the more I read the news the more irritated I get that stupid stuff is being turned into (litterally) felony cases and federal crimes.
So, I will probably just lurk for a while since if I say something it will probably be considered ‘non fluffy’ and get deleted. Cheers to everyone and best wishes π
I’m still processing charging those little boys with their crowd’s secret butt-slap greeting. That’s when you teach appropriate vs inapproriate in school. Not handcuffs and criminal charges.
Oh yes, and the girls who are so traumatized by it that now they are going to be doing counseling and their parents are considering suing the school.
Why do I have serious reservations about that?
Pooey. The girls backed down. Only the principal has an agenda now.
Very pathetic situation. What the heck has gone wrong here?? Has this country just decided that everything has to be regulated and lawsuits to settle every problem???
Instinct are you moving the refridgerator? If so it makes a great place to pack your lamps. I wrapped mine in towels and placed them in the fridge. The fridge makes a heavy duty storage box and they certainly can’t bounce the heavy appliance around.
No, we live in an aparment so thankfully there are no appliances going which allows us to get away with only needing a tow trailer so it’s a lot less than if we needed a full U-haul and a car trailer π
In a refrigerator. Hmmmmm. Gee, I should have tried to move my first husband that way. It would have been so…er…efficient.
Good one Emma, where in PA are you from. Seems we have a lot of PA people on this site! Hugs and Purrs.
Thank you!
Amen, Instinct! And I hate when you get a radio station, or some loud music when you’re on hold, too.
maybe I should start my own blog “instinctive ranting”
hmmmm….. could be good, or really, really bad π
I’d certainly join you on that one!
π
I bet once I am in San Fran I will have plenty of things to comment on. I do look forward to meeting Karin face to face once I am there π
Big shout out to Karin π
We’ll want pictures!!!
I look forward to meeting Instinct and Intuition when they are here in the SF Bay Area. I have no problem with being a tour guide if they would like that option. This option comes with a nice comfy car too. π
Or we can BART it too. I look forward to meeting them both.
π
Can’t wait to see the Pics! Best wishes on the move! Hugs and Purrs.
Xanga.com is a great adult place to blog.
When I call in my scripts and have to be put on hold the music is so loud Helen Keller deaf and dead could hear it just fine.
I hate that too. Why is someone else going to make me listen to their music anyway? They don’t get to hear it when I call.
Duke is quite the handsome kitten.
Anyone for some biscuits & gravy with eggs, maple sausage and grits?
Omigosh – major cuteness attack!
Pass the kitten & biscuits, please.
My plate id just waiting for you!
Yahoooo….someone finally is having a real southern breakfast… π
Duke is such a total cutie and he does look like he tied one on..LOL
Hi TDKr’s! I’m in the sharing circle; please pass Duke my way at some point today, he’s so cute! I’ve heard that ragdoll kitties are very loveable and docile – kinda like my coon, Jiggs.
I’m getting ready to go on vacation (Cathy from NC – I’m headed your way, the outer banks, to be specific). I couldn’t give the green light to go until I found a good kitty sitter who can care for my elderly boys. My neighbor didn’t even flinch at the sound of their various medical needs, so that’s one less thing to get stressed out about! After tomorrow, I won’t be able to access TDK, and I will miss my TDK family as well as my kitten-gazing fix. The bad thing about getting away is that I miss my furbabies soooo much! I probably have more separation anxiety than they do.
Anyway, much to be done, so if I don’t get a chance to post again, friendly, happy, healing thoughts and prayers to my TDK family (yes, Kittenmaster and Alex, this means you too!). Purrs and headbonks from my kitties to you and yours.
Love Joan
Have a great vacation!
Joan,
The best thing about going away from you furbabies is, of course, coming back to them. Do you notice that even tho they are so happy to see you come home, they’ll just walk away and do whatever they were doing, like “everthing’s ok now, she’s home”.
My calico, Kirby, (now at the Rainbow Bridge), used to give me the cold shoulder for a little while, but then it was all over and everything was back to normal.
I just came back from a week away and at first Toby was extra clingy and purr. But then all of a sudden the catatude came. First he just walked up to me and bit my leg. Then later at bed time he attacked my arm. When i was unpacking he helped pull everything out and firmly planted his butt in the suitcase to let me know he was to come along next time.
Thanks for the great visual! π
And how about that uncanny way they KNOW you’re going somewhere? Of course, once you take out the suitcase, the “cat is out of the bag” –can’t believe I said that……
Yep, the luggage comes out, the (c)attitude starts! Plus, Shaddo likes to claw at it; the material feels so good under kitty’s claws! Have to put a blanket over it.
And yes, they are ultra-excited when we get home… for about 5 minutes!
Growing up, one of the family cats, Jinx, had the attitude. She once delayed our departure by going up a tree and refusing to come down!
My Katie was like that too! She is also over the Rainbow Bridge (many years now, although I still cry for her). If anyone new would come into the house she would hiss, growl and follow them around while doing this. This would last for exactly three days. Not two, not four, THREE DAYS. When she got to the fourth day, she would now be your best friend. That is until you left again. Then the process would start all over again. God, I miss her.
Have a wonderful time, Joan and we’ll see you upon your return. Enjoy! Hugs and Purrs, Lynn
Joan, I know what you mean about leaving the fur family behind. I am going on vacation the end of August and I’m already concerned about leaving my cat. I have a good cat sitter, but I always feel I’m being so neglectful when I take a vacation away from home. I always explain to my cat about having to see the grandchildren and still loving her even though I’m away. I agree that it’s tougher on us than on them.
Enjoy your vacation, Joan. It is well deserved!
Question: How many of you call home and speak to your kits when you leave on vacation? I do. π
Hmmm, I’m tempted!
Hey, Kittenwhisper, I go to work and call from time to time to the machine at home to talk to my babies! Twisted, yea, but love the reaction when I play it back! Talk about confusion! They hear my voice, yet look up at my body and I know they are lost! Good fun! But wish I had a camera on them when the phone rings and they hear my voice. Had a girl over one time to watch them when I was away. She said they damn near killed each other coming off the bed, down the hallway to get to the phone in the living room and hear my voice and meowed like crazy the whole time my voice went off. Wish I was here to see it. I relate. Hugs and Purrs.
I don’t think we’re alone, Lynn. I’ve seen videos on youtube of cats going nuts when they hear their two-legged staff on the phone. Here’s an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b-_D9YKt54 π
I love Ragdolls–would like to see Duke’s “grown up” picture!
What a sweet little baby today!
Hi fellow TDKers!
Hi KM!
Hi Alex!
My sympathies and loving thoughts go out to both Artistabobbi for the loss of her friend at work, and to Susie for the loss of her Julie. More positive healing thoughts are going out to LeeAnn and her Kittyman! Hugs to all of you!
THUD!
Oh noes! Chocolate, blankets, mattresses, pillows + Cuban beach boys coming…
Hello, Miu, where have you been? Everything ok, I hope! Have some breakfast or lunch and come to the sharing circle, you need to pick up Tinafish, again!!!
Of course, I’ll come. Duke is irresistible. π
Ooooh, did someone say Cuban beach boys? Yum!
π Medical Use ONLY!
Yes, ma’am.
Oh, whatever!
Duke is adorable but he looks like he was into a heavy duty nip party the night before.
Quick update Γ’β¬β the best of all possible news!
Jellybean and Amelia both have homes theyΓ’β¬β’re going to soon (though I need to ask one owner if sheΓ’β¬β’s planning to declaw; if so, that could undo the deal). They all got altered on Sunday, along with rabies shots, distemper shots, and flea treatment.
JellybeanΓ’β¬β’s new name will be Max. His new owner, Tori, dreamt of him the other night. His close-up photo on Catster was the face she saw in the dream, as he settled in and said, Γ’β¬ΕIΓ’β¬β’m home.Γ’β¬Β He will have two other cats to play with; three is the maximum number of cats the owner will have. Max will be living in Topeka, Kansas, in a big old foursquare in an older part of town, shaded by a huge sycamore tree. He will be an indoor-only cat. He will move in after the old carpetingΓ’β¬β’s ripped out, and the floors are cleaned, to make sure he doesnΓ’β¬β’t learn any bad litterbox habits.
AmeliaΓ’β¬β’s new owner, Judy, thinks sheΓ’β¬β’s a beautiful little cat. Judy has another cat, MaΓ’β¬β’at, and thinks she would benefit from having a playmate. I will be staying the weekend with her; if there are problems with her adoption (extreme hostility from resident cat, declaw planned, etc.) she will return home with me. Amelia will be an indoor cat living in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Violet is not yet adoptable; she is still too scared of people. Her behavior may change soon, though, with her siblings gone.
Mama Kitty is as laid-back as can be. She was spayed on Sunday, but was allowing Max to nurse this morning, complete with kneading! She must have a high tolerance for discomfort.
Thought you’d all enjoy the good news!
Yay Yay Yay!!! Cheers to kittens, their new staff and anncetera!
Anncetera, I am so happy to hear of the great new homes for Max, (aka Jellybean) and Amelia. It is so good that you will actually get to spend the weekend with Amelia to make sure the transition is a good one. Wish all kittens could get such a good start in life.
Great job, Anncetera! Well done! Hugs and purrs
I echo Lynn’s comment….great job and well done Anncetera. Hugs and purrs.
That is good news, ancettera! What lucky kittens to have found their way into your life and now to (we hope) furrever homes. You rock!
The gait may be wobbly but there’s a lot of determination in those sky blue eyes. Duke is a gorgeous ball of fluff, I love his white shoes and that beepable nose.
What a beautiful baby!
He is a cutie. Sue where in MA are you?
soooooooooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish i had a kitten like that my mom won’t let me get anymore we already have 3 cats and 2dags!!!!! i am a cat lover!!!!! (arn’t we all)!!!! i really like animals!!!!!!
Hey Cutie –
That’s what is so great about this site, you get to look at a beautiful kitten each day. I really like animals too!!!
Aren’t animals wonderful? This is the right place for cat lovers (and animal lovers in general).
Hi, Kittenmaster! Hi, Alex!
THIS IS ONE PURRTY RAG DOLL!!!
SO CUDDLY …
Morning, TDKers! It’s a soft, cool morning here in Portland, Or. Wish you all could see the trees swaying outside my window while the squirrels chomp greedily on the sunflower seeds we put out for them–perfect cat TV for Redford & Mitzi!
I’d like to ask your prayers and good thoughts for my daughter in law. My son, Kyle, is 32 and he and Sarah have been married for 2 yrs, though they have been together for 10 yrs. She was not only just told she cannot have children but that she may have ovarian cancer as well. (Those tests are not back yet). They are so much in love and such a sweet couple, and my son is just devastated, while Sarah is in shock and terribly afraid. I know they will find the strength in each other and their love, but I also know that prayers and good thoughts will help them face this hard road together. So please, take a minute sometime today to send them love and healing. I have utter faith it will help as you are all such good and compassionate people. Thanks.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
We’ll definitely keep your son and daughter-in-law in our prayers. Much love to your family.
With purrs and prayers,
Max and Molly and Jimmie (Mom)
My thoughts and prayers are added to the others from TDK family and love to all of you.
Rainingwolf, healing prayers on on the way for you, your son and his lovely wife Sarah.
Rainingwolf, I am so sorry to hear of this upsetting news. My thoughts and prayers are with Kyle and Sarah and all of your family. I pray for the best possible results of the last test for you all. You are in my prayers and I am sending hugs and purrs and love to you and yours. Keep believing. God Bless.
All of you are in my prayers.
Rainingwolf I’m sorry to hear about Sarah. I hope she’ll be all right – glad to hear she’s well loved and have you and Kyle by her side. I’ll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
Prayers for them both for emotional and physical healing. It is often difficult for those of us who have been told that bearing children is out of the question, but sometimes God puts others in our lives that need that maternal love. As a teen I helped raise a niece, never knowing at the time that she would be my only child. Now I have pseudo-grandsons who are oh so prescious to me.
Let us know the minute you hear the results, okay? I’m glad they have love on their side.
Prayers for you and your family.
Healing light and love to you Rainingwolf as well as your son and his wife. I pray she gets good news. Thankfully they have love on their side.
Healing light and prayers are coming your way for a good outcome for your daughter-in-law. Purrs and gentle headbonks from Digit and Furl.
Rainingwolf I have said prayers for her healing and that they will weather this news together.
Lots of prayers for you all
Purrs and prayers from me and my family to everybody in your family!
All good thoughts and prayers their way for health and strength and hope and happiness, and for you.
The power of positive thinking as well as healing prayers headed your way; purrs and hugs too.
My prayers and healing thoughts are with you and your family Rainingwolf. I hope that the cancer is treatable. One never knows with Ovarian cancer. Hugs, prayers and purrs to you and your family.
They have my prayers that God will grant them a child and that your daughter in-law will find that she is in good health. I was told the same thing by the way. My daughter is the only child I carried out of 7. Husband and I carry a congenital heart condition gene, and we were told any child I managed to deliver would have this congenital heart condition and die young. My daughter is healthy and strong. God can do amazing things. My neighbors couldn’t have children and they went to China and adopted their son. It took a year to get there but he is here strong and healthy. Please tell your son and daughter-in-law that all is not lost.
i ment dogs not dags
Here in Georgia they’re called dawgs. π
Only when they Hunker down, and are Hairy (my husband’s a Bulldog…).
“I’m Bulldawg born and Bulldawg bred, and when I die I’ll be Bulldawg dead!”
HOW ‘BOUT THEM DAWGS!!!!!

How To Check And Clean Your Cats Ears
By rew Pilton
An important part of keeping your cat healthy and happy is checking and cleaning their ears. Because the ears are one of the few parts that cats can not reach themselves they need a little help from a loving owner. Keeping your cats ears clean is extremely important because any unremoved dirt, debris, or wax can clog the ears and cause infections. Regular ear cleaning at home augmentΓ’β¬β’s your cats own natural grooming habits.
1. How to check the ears
During petting, casually check your cats ears for discharge, redness, unpleasant smell, swelling, and even lumps. Also observe your catΓ’β¬β’s behaviour, if he often scratches or paws at his ears (and sometimes even shakes his head often), then he might be feeling discomfort in the ear area. If you notice that your cats ears are becoming painful or inflamed, visit a veterinarian as soon as possible. The veterinarian has the equipment to look deep into your catΓ’β¬β’s ear canal and give an accurate diagnosis. The veterinarian will determine if allergies, skin conditions, ear mites, bacteria, yeasts, and fungi are causing ear diseases. Seek early treatment, or your catΓ’β¬β’s ear condition may become too late to heal.
2. How to clean the ears
Ask your veterinarian for gentle ear cleaning solutions you can use to keep your cats ears clean. These special solutions are effective in removing excess wax, moisture, and debris from your catΓ’β¬β’s outer ear canal. Be sure to use only solutions that are specifically formulated for cats. Avoid medicated solutions, unless your veterinarian advises you to use it.
Different solutions are administered differently, but most of them require you to follow these steps.
* You typically only need a few drops of the ear solution. Squeeze the bottle and let a few drops fall on into your catΓ’β¬β’s ear canal.
* Start massaging the base of your cats ear gently. You should hear a Γ’β¬ΛsquelchΓ’β¬β’ while you do this. Repeat the same
procedure with the other ear. After both ears have been cleaned, let your cat shake its head, this loosens the waxes.
NOTE: Stop massaging immediately if your cat feels pain, and then take your cat to the veterinarian if you haven’t already done so.
* Wipe the solution by wrapping your forefinger with cotton wool, this should clean off wax and debris. Do this gently though and do not poke in too deep, or you might hurt your cats eardrum.
It is recommended not to use cotton buds, which can injure the ear canalsΓ’β¬β’ sensitive lining.
Has anyone tried the moist ear wipes I’ve seen at places like PetsMart? I was thinking of trying them out. I sometimes wipe Bob’s ears with a damp piece of toilet paper, so I thought maybe thise wipes would do the trick.
Here are some at Doctors Foster and Smith (love that company!). They are a customer favorite and the price has been reduced–think I’ll try them, too!
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=3525&N=2002+113754
Arrrgh, did not have enought time to get coffe, so still can’t spell……….
I think I’ll try those out, thanks, Dee. I asked above somewhere about whether or not to give Bob medicine to prevent heartworm. I used to give HeartGuard to my other cats, but Bob’s vet told me they only recommend giving that stuff to dogs. Do you guys (and gals) give your cats heartworm medicine?
With the mosquitoes swarming this year, yes. Even Miss Kitty’s foster mommy’s vet had concerns about her coming to Ga from Denver.
From Mummies to T-Shirts – The History of Cats
By Martine Carlsen
Some 5000 years ago (recent studies say about 100.000 years ago, but who’s counting) a smart – and hungry – African Wildcat somewhere in (what was then) Upper Egypt made a clever observation. “These strange and mysterious bipeds seem to be very fond of grain”, he thought. “Biped collects lots of grain and keeps it in big baskets. Big baskets of grain attract lots of yummy mice! Biped doesn’t seem to like mice in his grain! I think I’ll adopt one of these strange bipeds and live in his house and EAT HIS MICE FOR HIM!”
And thus a mutually beneficial relationship between smart African cats and strange Egyptian bipeds began! And history was made.
Life in Egypt was good and the African cats enjoyed their newly discovered coexistence with human beings; the Egyptians liked cats, the pharaoh LOVED cats and there was plenty of food around, but still… So after having lived the good life in Egypt for about a thousand years or so, cats – being curious animals! – started wondering: “What is outside this country. Are we missing out on something?!”
One cat thought: “I would like to sit outside a temple with one paw raised, beckoning people to enter that holy place. That would be neat! My skills and talents would totally fit that job description”. The cat told this to a Mediterranean merchant, who was in Egypt on a business trip, and the merchant said: “I know of such a place. I’ll take you there”. And the merchant brought the cat to Japan, where the cat found a nice-looking five stories pagoda temple with a beautiful garden.
The cat positioned himself outside the temple and raised his paw in a friendly manor to beckon passers-by to enter the temple, for that was now his job! The Japanese people had never seen anything like it, but they liked what they saw and they said: “This little animal has an air of holy mystery about him, this animal will bring us luck! We shall call this animal Maneki Neko and we shall make lots of little porcelain Maneki Neko figurines that we shall sell to tourist and make lots of money! …in about 4000 years.”
A couple of elderly cats were so tired of the never-ending African heat and drought and told another visiting trader (in town to buy small pyramid replicas for his novelty shop in London), that they would like to go to a cooler and wetter climate. The trader, of course, brought them back to England. The English being… well, ENGLISH, said: “I say! What positively lovely little creatures. We shall take them in, feed them and breed them and have magnificent CAT SHOWS!” The whole cat show thing came much later of course (in 1871 to be precise), but, believe me, the idea was born the second the very first Englishman (or it might… it PROBABLY was an EnglishWOMAN) laid eyes on those cats.
But England wasn’t the only European country where the Egyptian cats set paw. Around 2000 B.C. the cats of Egypt started a very successful worldwide marketing campaign, promoting their exceptional mouse and rat hunting skills. And it paid off! Soon cats were being invited to every European country, the Middle East and Asia, where they lived well and in harmony with the human bipeds for many, many years. But then something happened:
ENTER THE DARK AGES! …in the history of cats. Right after the end of the middle ages – beginning around 1550 and lasting about a century – the Christian church decided that cats were the source of all evil. Cats had always been associated with gods; in Egypt it was Bast, goddess of life and family and in the northern part of Europe it was Freya, who was always surrounded by cats. But these were not Christian gods, so cats now became “animala non grata”. This was probably when the saying “curiosity killed the cat” entered the English vocabulary; “They wanted to see the world, and look where it got them!” Yes, curiosity did kill a lot of cats during these terrible times. Cats were hunted down, burned, drowned and hanged. And people who had the audacity to so much as look kindly at a cat, were deemed witches. And they were killed as well. This was NOT a good time to be a “crazy cat lady” in Europe!
During this time cats were also being blamed for spreading the plaque, when in fact it was the disease-carrying rats that managed to kill off almost half the European human population by spreading plagues and other epidemics. And as the humans had so efficiently killed off most of their cats, there were practically none left to kill the rats! That’ll teach them to treat cats so disrespectfully!!!
But eventually things got better. The Europeans came to their long lost senses and realized that cats were actually good to have around! Less rats, no more plague and soon the former so beautiful and harmonic cat-human relationship made its come-back. And when the first European settlers came to America in 1600-something, they brought cats with them to THE NEW WORLD. Good thinking! Their cats kept their homes, farmhouses, henhouses, outhouses and doghouses rat and mice free. Well, maybe not doghouses!
Yes, the human bipeds truly rediscovered the value of cats. They took cats into their homes again and this time into their hearts as well. The cat became more than a useful little mousetrap, it became a PET.
And so cats – being cats – now started to claim their INDOOR territory; the couch, the best arm chair, the dining table, the bed, the lingerie drawer… in short: THE WHOLE HOUSE. And finally things were as they should be between cat and man.
5000 years ago the Egyptians worshipped cats and showed their admiration and respect by mummifying them after death and depicting them on vases, amulets, rings and inside tombs! Today we pay homage to cats by putting pictures of cats on coffee mugs, napkins, sofa pillows, mousepads, clocks, refrigerator magnets and t-shirts! And in a thousand years from now, I’m sure there will be an enormous image of a cat on our first spaceship to Mars.
HI All!!
good morning and good afternoon (depending on your location!)

Good morning\good afternood\good evening out there to TDK.. Update on my mom..She wound up in the ICU after her sugery yesterday. Best wishes for your mom’s continued improvement. If she’s in shaky condition, ICU is the best place for her to be.

What is little Duke stalking? He’s a cutie.. π
My ragdoll boy now weighs about 26 lbs.. My son noticed him next to our fence where he had (once again) wandered away from his mother – and on the other side of the fence were two big hungry dogs. He was about 2 1/2 weeks old and weighed about 1/2 of a pound. That was July of 2001. I bottle fed him and tried to teach him all the necessary “cat” things and “Scooter” is now a totally confident and spoiled boy. We absolutely adore him!
26 lbs? I want to see a photo of that babydoll.
**Paris Not Being Locked Out of Hotel Fortune**

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton doesn’t need to worry about family patriarch and precious grandad Barron Hilton cutting her out of his will.
A story published in the UK said the ex-con party princess was in jeopardy of losing her mega-inheritance because sullying the family reputation, saying that grandpa was cutting her out of the will. TMZ has confirmed that’s baloney.
After the socialite was sprung from the klink, she spent a few days at grandpa Hilton’s family compound in Beverly Hills. It’s rumored that Paris stands to inherit somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 million.
Bummer
that just killed my buzz. π
mine too
Proof that money does not buy class.
I figured that.
I was really hoping she’d have to live like the rest of us..I’m really bummed now..
Nice neighborhood. Mine’s better, though – that being my TDK neighborhood. Love and kindness AND KITTIES are worth much more. I know, it don’t pay the bills, and people like me get jazzed upon finding a quarter on the ground, but I try not to live beyond my means and look at the bigger picture. When my brother spoke at my dad’s funeral, he mentioned that Dad considered himself a millionaire. Not in money, but in family and values. His five children made him a millionaire five times over and the love of his life, Mom, made him a millionaire ten times over that. His five grandchildren added five more times. He worked hard and honest, and it came back to him tenfold.
So there, Paris – I’M RICHER THAN YOU CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE!!!
Well said, Joanie!
You forgot: NANNY NANNY BOOO BOOO!!! π π π π

You said it all!!!

Hi Max and Molly’s mom,
Mine is the 8th. I haven’t even made any plans. It’s just me, hubby and my mom. We usually just go out for supper on the following Saturday.
Happy b-day Ange in MH, CA. Hope it is filled with warm, sweet and furry memories. Hugs and purrs.
Joan, Instinct and all of you who know Maine Coons, we think our tiny little shaved rescue, Smidgeon, is turning into a Main Coone now that her fur is growing back in. She matches the coloring and has the fluffy coon tail and tufts below her ears. She never lets us pick her up but doesn’t protest when we capture her and hold her except to make ultrasonic squeaks. This morning she captured a cricket and trilled over it. Other than that she doesn’t make noise–correction–she doesn’t make sounds. She creates lots of noise! What else can we expect?
Well, in the case of mine (which I think are part main coon) she will get better with being held, both if mine like being held but not for long periods of time and Misto gets the night crazies every night around 11 pm so the apartment becomes a racetrack.
Instinct–I wish I had a picture of my parents Psycho Cat (Tut) because she’s the spitting image of your beloved Roo. Tut’s hair is longer, but she’s 100% Maine Coon.
Hi Sharon – My Jiggs is getting frail; he likes his head petted, that’s about it. He has never liked being held. He wakes me for breakfast (and maybe to tattle-tale about Shaddo needing his meds!). He’s not much of a talker except for breakfast and dinnertime; I can’t serve fast enough! He’s 15, but in his heyday, he loved playing in the snow, chasing his big brother, Mr. Part-Siamese, Shaddo, and catching snakes (yuk!). He’s docile, and more of a lap cat than when he was younger. He’s loyal and loves his mama. He loves catnip too! His long, beautiful fur requires grooming; Smidgeon will probably do some of that herself, but you may want to get her used to a brush as well, you can control mats that way. Smidgeon will develop a beautiful maine. All that long fur on her tail may cause some poo to cling to her, so you may have to help her out from time to time (before she learns to skoot on her but across your living room rug). Thank you for rescuing her!
I blame Bo and my vet. I just can’t walk into the place empty-handed and walk out the same way! We took Bo in for his meet and greet with the vet and blammo! New kitten needing a home. As for Bo, my son-in-law says Bo is short for bovine. He’s gained two more pounds and we call him Cow. Smidegeon calls him a walking jungle gym. And thanks for the info. We will take exceptional care of her. Paul is spoiling her rotten. Can’t get him to discipline her at all. He just laughs at her terrorist ways. *sigh*
Bo is just “drought and famine resistant.”
Hip hip hurrah! Triple hoorays for Sharon & Paul & Bo & Smidgeon!!!
Pictures! We – want – pictures!
*the crowd starts a riot*
Speaking of bovines, there a cow running amok in West Milford, New Jersey. It jumped a fence during a show and has apparently been living off the land. Thought I heard some mooing the other night…
Honey? Where’s Bo? uh oh…
π
Feral COWS!?
Nibs came as a stray, but she most certainly has Maine Coon in her – I call her my “designer knockoff”. You are right that they do not meow much, but get used to the chirps and trills, and the very high pitched voice. Also your baby might get quite large, but it will take longer – I couldn’t figure out why Nibs kept growing (well, filling out) long after she was a year old, but then I read about Maine Coons. It probably took her about 3 years to fully mature. She loves to cuddle (with me) but doesn’t really like to be picked up – she will tolerate it. She LOVES to lay upside down (on her back), she even sleeps that way. Her worst place for getting matted fur is on her “britches” – I have to brush her there alot. Fortunately she loves being brushed. I love Maine Coons, you will certainly love yours.
If Duck grows into those’boots’ he is going to need a large lap to accomidate him.

**Animal lover makes long journey to rescue ailing dog**
07/31/2007 (udn.com)
Hung Mei-lan, a resident of Keelung, saw on the Internet news of a homeless dog in the Lungtung Bay area in the northeastern corner of Taiwan that had a serious skin ailment.
An Internet friend of Hung’s, who goes by the name Karol and lives in Taichung, made a posting on the website of Animal Rescue Team Taiwan. In the post, Karol said that he visited the northeast coast of Taiwan on July 17th, he noticed a small black dog hanging out in the vicinity of Homei Elementary School in the Lungtung Bay area. Karol said that the dog had only half of its fur left and that it was bleeding from a number of places on its body. He said the dog’s paws also looked quite swollen and in all, the dog was a sorry sight.
Karol wrote that his car was full that day with friends and he did not have a dog cage with him. As a result, he was only able to offer the dog some food. He took a few pictures of the dog and then posted them on the website, hoping that someone who lived in the area would lend a helping hand.
On July 27, Hung, whose nickname is Mother Lan, prepared water and dog food and then rode her motorcycle to Lungtung Bay to look for the dog. After finding the animal and giving it some food, she went back to Keelung. She then had a cage custom made for the dog and the following day she rode her motorcycle with the cage again to Lungtung Bay. She helped the dog into the cage and took it back to Keelung.
Hung Mei-lan ended up driving to Lungtung Bay twice in the blistering heat, driving a total of over 100 kilometers. She was able to rescue the dog on her own. After posting her experience on the Animal Rescue Team Taiwan website, many readers lauded her actions. Many visitors to the website also started a campaign to raise money to treat the animal. Animal lovers from as far away as the United States even donated money.
Hung took the dog to a veterinary hospital in Keelung. The veterinarian, You Ta-sen, said that he has begun treating the dog for the folliculitis and fungus infection. He said that the dog will need about two months of treatment for it to fully recover.
Ni Ching-tai, a volunteer with Animal Rescue Team Taiwan, said that most people in Taiwan are not interested in adopting a dog with skin problems such as the one in the Lungtung Bay area. Ni said that his organization works together with American animal protection groups and volunteers, helping to find new homes for the dogs.
Hello all. I haven’t been on computer much, my back is way out, and the pain is keeping me really low and mostly in bed. Sitting here hurts and the getting up is even worse π Wish I had a lap top.
Susie – I am so very sorry about Julie. I know how much you are hurting and wish I could take away the pain of lose. You did your very best and Julie was loved to the very last. She is now romping in the sunshine amid the flowers and butterflies. Chester is taking care of Julie, Black Jack, Emma and all pets newly arrived.
Aristabobbisox, sorry about you friend and coworker. A terrible loss for his family and friends.
boyzandme, happy news that Camo returned safe and sound. I’ve only had that happen once, but will always remember the tears and fear I felt before I found her.
Elene, so sorry to hear your back is hurting again. Someday I’ll get a magic wand and wave it around like crazy! Feel better, babe.
Feel better soon, Elene. {hugs & purs}
Elene, I am sorry to hear about your back. Good wishes, purrs and prayers sent to help you feel better. {{{Hugs}}}
Healing prayers on on the way.
Feel better soon, Elene. How’s all the kittys doing? Hugs and Purrs, Lynn
Thank you all for the good wishes for a stronger back. Don’t know why it went out. Didn’t do a thing different, I think my body is trying to tell me that I am not a kid anymore. π
Kitties are doing fine. I now let them out of the nursery 4 times a day for an hour+ each time. Everyone is free to walk into the nursery to sniff around and meet HoneyBee, and so far everyone seems to like her and she them . She hasn’t really come out except to check on the kits and then only a few steps from the doorway. Chester Bean and Dusty are in to everything and aren’t afraid of anything or anyone. PJ has come out a few times but mostly sits near the nursery door and watches. LeiLani mostly stays in the nursery watching from the top of their condo.
There were a few growls and hisses from some of the gang and still a few swats now and then, but mostly they are enjoying the romping and being chased by Chester Bean and Dusty. As I speak, Max my 2 year old Tux is playing like a little kitten again. Just wish my pain level would reduce so I could enjoy this time more than I am.
Again thank you all for caring, and for being there to share the joys, pains, breakfasts, heartaches, losses and gains, and of course the sweet kittens of this beautiful neighborhood.
Anytime, girl. Hope you feel better soon and thanks for taking the time to respond. Hugs and purrs, Lynn
Hope you feel better Elene, thank you for your support, because of all this positive energy, I know it helped me get my Camo back.
Sorry your back is causing you pain, Elene. Hugs and purrs that you heal quickly.
Elene please relax and rest your back; you do so much for so many you probably over did it. Prayers for peace and recovery to you.
So fluffy and soft! I want to hold him!
I can’t see this at work, but apparently she was quite angry…

**Alligator Found In Pillowcase On NY Beach**
Gator Abandoned With Note On Case
POSTED: 4:02 am PDT July 30, 2007
BABYLON, N.Y. — Finding a pillowcase on the beach is one thing, but what if it’s moving?
An off-duty humane society officer knew just what to do. He called in a response team, which rescued a more than two-foot long alligator that had been abandoned on a Long Island, N.Y., beach.
Officials at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said someone had written “Live Gator — Please find him a home” on the pillowcase.
The Suffolk County group is asking for donations to help them care for the alligator until it can be taken to a sanctuary. They are also seeking information on who might have dumped it.
**Hospital Bans Crocs Shoes, Calling Them Safety Hazard**
POSTED: 10:36 am PDT July 31, 2007
PITTSBURGH — Crocs, the rubbery, clog-like shoes, have been deemed inappropriate footwear for workers in patient-care areas at a hospital.
Holes that ventilate the shoes pose a safety hazard, said Sharon Krystofiak, Mercy Hospital’s infection control manager.
“If there’s a chance you could drop something like a syringe in one of them, we want to avoid that,” Krystofiak said. “Some of those holes are relatively large, almost like a dime.”
Mercy nurse Kara Depasquale, 23, was wearing Crocs on Monday, when the policy went into effect. She called it ridiculous.
“I mean, I can get a needle stuck in my arm or my leg,” Depasquale said. “I work 12-hour shifts, and I’m constantly on my feet.”
Crocs, based in Niwot, Colo., about 30 miles north of Denver, sells shoes in at least 80 countries.
I don’t consider that so ridiculous. I work in an environment with a business casual dress code where I could be carrying 60 or 70 pounds of equipment. For this reason, I do not wear open-toed shoes at work. (And yes, I have lost a toenail from dropping said equipment before.)
I wouldn’t want to wear open-toad shoes either. π
Just teasing. Sorry you got hurt, hon.
Sounds like you could use a pair of steel-toed boots, Andi. Ouch!
Just horrible! GRRR!
**Copper Theft Spoils Food Bank Groceries**
11:07 AM EDT, July 31, 2007
INDIANAPOLIS – Thieves stole copper pipe from a freezer at the state’s largest food bank, wasting nearly half a million dollars worth of food meant to help the poor, police said.
The copper theft was captured by security cameras Friday night, police said, but the freezer’s failure wasn’t discovered until Monday. By then, thousands of pounds of groceries at the Gleaners Food Bank had become unusable.
It was the third time in two months that copper had been taken from Gleaners. The food bank serves more than 300,000 people through more than 400 pantries and charities in 20 central Indiana counties.
Children, families and the elderly will be hurt by the theft, said Pam Altmeyer, president and chief executive officer of Gleaners.
“It is becoming very clear that the thieves do not understand that it is those most in need of assistance who are hurt,” she said.
The theft could cost Gleaners $464,000 in lost food, plus $20,000 for immediate repairs. Gleaners will work this week to solicit more donations and plans to continue distributing its nonperishable food.
Copper can be sold for around $3 per pound, and thefts have become common across the country. In the food bank’s case, it is unlikely the thieves got more than a few hundred dollars if they sold all the copper tubing to a scrap yard, Police Lt. Jeff Duhamell said.
This copper theft stuff is starting to get out of hand! The Detroit area has been bombarded by these thieves–store owners get to their businesses in the morning to find that all of their a/c units have been stripped, and many other places have been hit, too.
Guess that’s just another way for the addicts to get money for their habits.
This just ticks me off. I donate food evey two weeks to my “adopted’ daughter for their camp in Mississippi. They are so poor in that state and as soon as my box”s” arrive they are sent out to a needy family the next day. These thieves don’t realize that they are starving so many needy people. I just can’t get over the amount of money that this food bank lost and how many children will go hungry for how many days. I am angry and I know I can’t stop it, but I just don’t get it. I am older {53} but I wasn’t raised this way. You did for those you could and for those you can’t you prayed that someone else would take over. I have to live by those words each day or I would go crazy. I think I can do it all, still sane enough to know I can’t. If you see any kind of vandalisim like this in your area, please report it. A child’s life may depend on it. *off soapbox now* Sorry, touchy subject. Thanks, Dee, for putting the article out there. Hugs and Purrs, Lynn
Lynn–this story really touched me as well–made me cry. Such thoughtlessness for their fellow man. More than 300,000 men women and children will feel this.
Hey all. Sylvester is CatstersΓ’β¬β’s cat of the day. Check him out at http://www.catster.com and see my handsome boy! I am so proud of him. He is famous. I told my husband that my cat has a web page and he thought that was hilarious. I love my cat…can you tell? π
Horay for Syvester! I haven’t told my husband, I think I’ll just send him the link, he already thinks I’m insane, It’s all good my friend!
Ooh! He is a looker! I would be very proud of him too. I love especially that smug face shot – he is cattitude personified (catified? cattified? kittified?).
Sylvester thanks you for the compliments. He won’t let it go to his head…yeah right. It is okay. He is my handsome boy and I love my cat. I am proud to be called a cat lady and maybe will earn the title crazy cat lady as I get older and maybe get more cats.
I think I was a crazy cat lady even before my first own cat. π I tried to suppress that and stay in the closet but simply couldn’t help myself. Now I am proud of it and ready to shout it to the whole wide world.
Sylvester IS a qutie. There’s not one good reason why he or you should deny it!
So here’s to all us wonder crazy cat women! May we be strong and loud!
I am crazy cat lady too, hear me MEOW very loudly!
I am a crazy cat lady! I spent 4 hrs yesterday with my 18 cats, in the rain! I had cats all over my lap, there just wasn’t enough room. They had to take turns. π
I took them some treats and tried some new food out on them. They seemed to like the new Friskies Indoor Delight. It has several flavors and a bit of greenies in it.
I’m PROUD to be the resident Cat Lady wherever I am.
Congratulations!
Beautiful kitty, Karin! Congrats. Hugs and Purrs.
So do we now!
Congratulations! He’s a sweetie.
Did anyone watch the Catster video of the day “Ozzie loves the vaccum cleaner”? What an amazing cat. MY Ozzie runs and hides when I”m just **thinking** about vaccuming. And stays hidden for several hours afterwards.
I saw it – didn’t believe my eyes. π―
He is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute and fluffy. It looks like he has a big head!!!!!!!!
Duke is so very cute. Could I please get a snuggle? I really need it today. My friend at work has taken a turn for the worst. In addition to the liver cancer, they have found pancreatic cancer and his kidneys are shutting down. Like Aristabobbi’s friend, he’s one of the good IT guys. By the way, my heart is so with you Aristabobbi. I”m feeling your pain rather keenly right now. They are talking about sending him home with hospice care because the doctors don’t think there is much more that they can do.
Prayers to you MeezerMama. Sending your friend prayers via you.
I am sorry to hear about your friend MeezerMama. I hope they are able to make him as comfortable as possible so that he may spend the remainder of his time comfortable. He has exactly what my Mom had. It was liver and pancreatic cancer by the time she was diagnosed. She has been gone 34 years now. Hugs and prayers.
Prayers for your friend and also for all those that love him. I hope they will keep him pain free and that those who love him will stay close by.
Purrs and prayers coming to you and your friend. I really hope they could relieve your pain and sorrow and give comfort and peace to him.
I’m so sorry MeezerMama.
So sorry, Meezermama, for your friend and your sadness at this time. Prayers going to you and him and his family. Hugs and Purrs, Lynn
I have a close friend in the same position. Lungs, heart and kidneys all failing. We’ll keep vigil with you, MM. We are always here.
MeezerMama, I am so sorry for your grief. Prayers for your friends ease and your strength to withstand the loss.
I am so sorry you are going through this. Prayers to your coworkers family as they deal with a horrible situation.
I also have a ragdoll named Duke – in the States…he’s 2 and still growing. Very handsome young man you have.
Duke is adorable. My Duchess had similar markings and color as a baby. She got darker as she got older and has beautiful blue eyes.
Oh, what a beautiful baby kitty.
All male cats have big heads and then in about 5 years their bodies catch up.
What a sweet little baby!! I love him! It’s the end of the day for me, but maybe there is still room in the sharing circle? π
There is always room in the sharing circle. Jump on in!
duke is adorable! π sooo cute.
My Thomas is a BlueMitted Ragdoll and is now 9 yrs old. He looked like this little one when a baby. He lights up our lives.
I am ready for the sharing circle, too. What a pretty little boy today. He doesn’t even look real. I have stuffed ones that he could fit right in with.
Good evening all,
Thank you for all your kind thoughts. I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of sentiments.
Matt never gained consciousness from his stroke. So sad. Such a kind young man. He was a cat person, too.
Sylvester makes a beautiful Cat of the Day. Do they let you know when your cat is IT? I’m still getting my feet wet at the Catster site.
There is so much I could respond to to today’s blogs.
Elene, Sharon and MM and especially Rainingwolf’s Kyle and Sarah.
Purrs, Hugs, Healing energy to you all.
We all hate to hear bad news, and we all hate to have to go through bad times, but it seems to make the good things even more precious. I don’t mean to trivialize anyone’s troubles, but I really try to look for something positive to take away.
Like this website. I look forward to coming to TDK, connecting with the folks here, learning something new, sometimes sad, sometimes wonderful.
I never thought I would get involved in internet “chatting”, buy you guys make my life richer. You all are really great!!! Thank you for being there.
Aristabobbi, I am so sorry for the news of your friend Matt. I know what you mean to take something positive away from a bad situation. I am glad you find comfort here and I hope you always will. Know that we share in your grief and are holding our protetive arms around at this time. You have blessed us with your presence here and we will be here for you as long as you need us. Always here, always with you. Hugs and Purrs and loving arms around you tonight. Lynn
I’m sorry about your friend also. Something like that is such a shock. I also have been praying for the others who have posted their troubles–its good to share burdens and get support. I, too never thought I would “chat” but this site is irresistable.
We all need to be listened to and to receive support in good times and bad. “Sometimes you need the group and sometimes the group needs you.” This is a great placed to come both to give and receive unconditional love and support. Purrs to all TDKers!
Oooo, my sister lives in Townsville and has a ragdoll too!
–To all my TDK family–
I know it’s late, but,as most of you know,I’ve been down a bit. I just wanted to say again that I deeply appreciated your Love,Prayers,& support in my days of need. Also:

susie
Glad to hear from you.
I lost my favorite boy, Bandit 8 yrs ago, and I still feel his hole. Some of these guys just leave a huge space. I’m glad I have room for all the others.
Just hang in there, girl.
Purrs and hugs.
Susie, good to see you posting. Hope you are getting stronger as each day goes by. See you soon. Hugs and Purrs, Lynn
Dear Susie,
Sending soft Purrs and gentle hugs to you. So sorry for the loss of your sweet Julie.
Susie, prayers to you. Just know we will be thinking of you giving you strength when you need it.
Prayers and hugs, sweetie. You will always love Julie, and your heart will stop hurting. She is happy now.
Susie dear, how I wish I could comfort you. Our kitties are special to us, sometimes we have more love, more bonding to our animal companions than to people we call our family or friends.
Grieve for Julie as long and as much as you need. There will be time when remembering her evokes no pain but sweet nostalgia and many cute and funny memories.
Hang in there, girl. {Hugs}
