Sweet little Mollie Little, so tiny yet so fierce.
Good golly, Miss Mollie!
Big scary kitten! Everybody RUN! 🙂
*running* Aaaa…run away run away…
is this a kitten or a porcupine???
she looks almost exactly like a cat we had when I was little (a *long* time ago, back when dirt was rocks and Moby Dick was a minnow). her name was “little bit”, btw, and she had a litter of kittens, of which we kept two–“little buddy” (who looked just like his mom) and “chester” (a tuxedo, who was it by a car as a kitten and had a pin in his leg that made him limp–hence the name).
What a pretty arched-back bottle-brush furrball! Can she come play outside with my cats?
Great description “bottle-brush” for her tail! That’s exactly what it looks like!
Man, that cat looks cool!
Latest news on pet food:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070418/ap_on_he_me/pet_food_recall
Sorry, did not realize my posting was old news. It got posted yesterday by someone after I logged off. G’day, TDK’ers.
this kind of news is so important it’s absolutely fine to post it more than once
Don’t apologize Laura in Chi. We’re all in different time zones here. I wasn’t aware of the updates until I read your comment. It’s 10:00a.m. in California here. Sometimes we’re the last to hear of these things. lol
I love how fierce kittens try to be! She’s a beauty with her perfect tabby markings and beautiful M. Anyone bringing croissants today? I’ve made Vanilla Latte’s
No, but here’s my crustless spinach quiche, fresh out of the garden! Instead of crusts, the quiche is nestled in a base of mozzarella cheese. Mmm-mmm! (Sorry folks, I left the recipe at home).
I made pancakes and bacon! It’s a regular potluck this morning
I’ve got strawberries fresh from the garden !!!
Wow! Latte, Quiche, strawberries, pancakes and bacon…what can I bring?? I know! Champagne and orange juice for MIMOSAS! and those neat disposable plastic glasses…
Mimosas—fantastic
I like champagne and V8 too. I call it a poinsettia.
OOOOOOOooooo…. I’ll have to try that !!! Sounds yummy
Around here a poinsettia is champagne and cranberry juice!
Hmm, that sounds good too.
Spicy V8?
Speaking of V8, I just read in Allure Magazine that you can pour V8 over your hair and leave it on for 15 minutes to enhance hair color that is red or reddish-brown (natural or colored hair).
Spicy V8 and Skky Vodka, throw in a celery stalk -> Instant Bloody Mary (good for camping trips or breakfast) 🙂
You guys are making my mouth water and I am not even hungry.
Please post it tomorr though. I have company coming next weekend and it sounds perfect!!!!!
Ginny go home, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars and bring back that recipe – please post it tomorrow. Spinach is my favorite veggie and then asperagus which I bought both when I was shopping Tuesday. The asperagus fianally got under two dollars.
the farmer’s market in my town opens on Saturday. I’m so excited
I will definitely have to post my recipe for shrimp/asparagus/onion/Swiss cheese quiche!
Yes you do.
Oh please bring it soon, I love spinach and so does my son. His new wife would love a good recipe
Agreed. For such small things they try to seem so huge and fierce. What a beauty she is!
I’ve got the scones!
Mmmm-scones! Any orange-cranberry? Those are my favorite!
Who brought the clotted cream?
OOhhhhhhh!!! I love scones!! Thanks Jennifer! I missed lunch again today dag-nabit! Little did I know that I would get back to the office to find a buffet on TDK! A girl could get pudgy around here! 🙂
Love this little kit…they crack me up when they puff themselves up. I know that they intend for this to have the opposite effect on observers…but it always leaves me in stitches!
I bought almond filled and chocolate filled croissants from a wonderful french bakery in San Francisco yesterday which I picked up fresh on my way home from an interview. I am willing to share.
Did the croissants actually make it home? tee hee
I have the coffee and Baileys!!!
I brought fresh bagels to go with the coffee and Bailey’s! Yumm!!
By the way, this little beauty is almost as pretty as my Georgie Butt!
HM, where did you get Baileys? , haven’t had one since I left B’klyn,N.Y. upstate we have great bagles (dunkin donuts) but I don’t think they ever heard of baileys love them.“ and the kitty is cute to!
I have the mimosas and a blender for a Ramos Fizz, if anyone wants one.
STOP it you guys…I’m literally salivating here at work! LOL! I’m leaving in a minute to go to grandparent’s day at my granddaughters grade school and then going with my daughter to the OB for an ultrasound .. hope to see whether grandbaby #2 is girl or boy…either way, I’ll be thrilled… SEE YOU tomorrow! Love you guys…save me some of those mimosa’s in case I stop by later tonight!
I’ll bite–what’s a Ramos Fizz?
Never heard of it,either, but am way curious. And Ginny, I want that quiche recipe! Please?
Ramos Fizz is a blended gin drink.. Gin, orange juice, whole egg, ice, powdered sugar…all blended and served with nutmeg on top… Kind of like a gin milkshake… really yummy for brunch….
Another good brunch drink is a mojito…. rum, lime and mint…. over ice.
Ok – I want in on the virtual breakfast, everything sounds wonderful! Mimosas are my favorite. I’ll bring my version: strawberry champagne with a dash of orange/pineapple juice.
ooh it all sounds so good. I want everything!
Betinna, I think you are thinking of bialies, wonderful little onion rolls. I’m from Brooklyn origionally, and remember them well. We were talking about Bailey’s Irish Creme, a wonderful flavored liquor.
Amazingly they did, Dee. 😀
OMG! Chocolate-filled croissants & Coffee & Baileys. I’m in Breakfast heaven! Yummmmmmmmmm
I have fresh baked bread – still warm, soft and crumbly inside, crusty outside 🙂 Oh – and butter 🙂
And this is my priority today? Food, then cute kittens??? I blame this cold I’m trying to shake!
What a very goreous little fuzzy thing – they are so cue when they’re trying to be all tuff (just seemed more appropriate (mis)spelling than tough!)
Am-Smokey’s mum,
Hi ! I love fresh baked bread also and pie crust. When my mom used to make pie crusts, we would bake any of the leftover strips to eat on. We could hardly wait for them to get done. My dad loved them as much as we did!
We would save him some, just barely! lol
ooooh pie crust *starts drooling* Love that too! And somehow I always but always seem to end up with more pastry than the dish needs… odd that 😉
There is an incredible restaurant in downtown Brenham, TX called (appropriately enough) “Must Be Heaven.” They sell fantastic soups and sandwiches, and offer some 2 dozen hand-dipped flavors of Blue Bell Ice Cream (whose home, BTW, is in Brenham), but their quiches and dessert pies are TO DIE FOR because of the crust they make in-house. It is the first and only pie crust I have ever met that would make a snack by itself–in fact, I always save it for last because it is SO light, SO flaky and SO delicious! Ooooh, right now I’m drooling like Linus does when he’s purring and getting scritched!
Don’t believe me? Here’s the web page:
http://www.mustbeheaven.com/brenham.htm
The photo of the guy on the phone is in another location, but all the rest of the pix are from Brenham. BTW, I have been to the Bryan locale, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Brenham!
Best trick I’ve found to making pastry light and flaky is to kep everything ice cold – so water in the fridge, butter/fat chopped up with the flour and chucked int he freezer for 10 minutes or so. Then make quickly! I usually rest it in the fridge too.
I’m not much of a cook but I want to bring something Finnish: Carelian pies with egg butter, milk and lots of coffee. And for dessert a lingon pie and a blue berry pie. Hope you like them.
I LOVE lingonberries! I’m sure they make a great pie!
I am soooooooooo hungry right now!!!!!
I’ll have a bailey’s and coffee please with a croissant. Have to run in a minute to retreive the daughter child to take her to the Dr. Have a great day!
Here you are! I love lingon pie, it’s not too sweet.
And this time: 0 calories. 🙂
*passes out coffee and Baileys to everyone*
Don’t drink too much guys. Some of us have to work.
A BIG Thanks to Karin & HM
I just got back from a VERY LONG meeting! is there any coffee and Bailey’s left? pleasssee!
**begging**
Here you are! Care for a Mimosa or two?
There is plenty of Bailey’s left. (I have a whole case of it, Georgie’s mama). *Shares with georgie’s mama*
My pleasure Susie. Chocolate croissants all flaky with lovely chocolate inside with a nice cup of coffee is heaven on earth. At least as long as the croissant lasts. Enjoy everyone.
Hey miu- What in the world is a ‘lingon’???????????
A lingonberry. It is a sour berry, a lot like cranberry. It goes well with meat dishes but is even better in sweet desserts and pies.
The IKEA store in Houston has a wonderful Swedish cafeteria. You can get lingonberry punch from the soda fountain there. YUM!
Lingonberry punch? Sounds good, I must taste that.
I’m looking for a recipe for canning Dilly Beans if anyone has one.
Google Dilly Beans Recipes…..think you will find what you are looking for…..Good Luck!!
Rik-Tik-Tikki-Tikki-Tchk! FUZZ!
No cobras in this garden!
Aww so cute, she looks like our late Tigger.
Tigger. As in T I double guh err? Hint – Winnie The Pooh’s friend.
Thats 1 cool cat!!! how little is she now i wonder??? prbably huge seeming to cowardly dogs 🙂 😛 🙂
When I lived in GA, my next door neighbor had a cat that would stalk dogs! She would crouch in wait behind a tree next to the road and when an unsuspecting dog passed by, she would dart out and attack.
She was the terror of the neighborhood until the day she didn’t see the second dog. She pounced at the first only to find that the hunter had suddenly become the hunted. She darted up a tree, only to discover too late that the tree she had chosen had a “double trunk”–one that splits just off the ground. The left side of her went up one side and the right side of her went up the other! Just out of reach of the dogs, she found she could go no further up, she could not go down because of the dogs, and she could not move her whole body to either side without falling! Before we could stop ROFL and bail her out, the dogs lost interest and left, but psychokitty had already learned her lesson and never stalked dogs again.
If only we had had a videocam, we’d have been rich!
Hello everyone! It’s so nice to be back!!
My Kittyman now 16, in his much younger days, would chase dogs off my property! He was my barn cat and was very protective of the barn and walkway from my house to it. God help any dog that crossed that path! Saw him chase a boxer right off the property… where was the camera when I needed it?!?!?!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!
Reminds me of when our late cat Psycho Sammy used to keep ‘all creatures great and small’ from our house. I remember coming around the corner one day thinking that one dog was riding on the back of a German Shepherd—only to realize, as I got closer, that it was Sammy. That Psycho cat even sat in the driveway of our next-door neighbors house and wouldn’t let their kitten in the garage. Let’s just say that Sammy LITERALLLY scared the poop out of that poor kitty (I found this out when I picked her up)! 🙂
Looks like we’re not so original after all. Psycho kitty……
Too bad we humans couldn’t learn our lesson the first time.
My remark was for Ginny’s story.
Hilarious!
I haven’t had a decent camera in ages and sometimes it really annoys me. So many great moments which could have been easily captured are now faded memories.
Thanks for the visual, Ginny. I am laughing at the poor kitty’s predictament. Did she earn a nice treat for her suffering?
Something sure seems to have caught her eye!!
Very, very cute!!
See me? I’m ferocious! (NOT)
eek-a mouse
Oh what a little sweety……………Did you say you wanted to come visit me for a while???……………I thought you did. Into my pack you go. Sorry HD……………I will bring her back later after I fill her with treats and nippies!!!
But…but…but….she’s got a fiber optic tail and everything.
You’re not playing nice debsterwiz!!!!
What a little beauty she is even all puffy!!!
Aack! Fiber optic tail – that is so cute!
Ok, molly has had her fill of treats and nippies. She weighs a full pound more now (oh my goodness, what a full belly you have now) When she finishes her nap, I will bring her back, promise.
Careful, Deb–HM is considered armed and extremely dangerous when provoked!
I know but I don’t think she will hurt me and upset little molly.
I wouldn’t, and you have Mollie to thank for that 🙂
Yes, thank you Molly for visiting with me and protecting me from the big bad Huddy’s Mom. She is ready to come back now. Who wants to have her next?
Meeee. *lifts head up from floor, where passed out from Baileys and mimosas*
Take two asprin and call HM in the morning!!!
hehehehehehehe… puffed up so big! We’re all impressed! No, really, we’re giggling because we’re impressed! 😉
Oooooh! fierce tiger in the brush!!!
What a great photo… 🙂
I am kitten hear me roar! Love it when they arch up and bounce to show them who is boss.
Sylvester is in the window making “acking” noises at a dove who is on the power lines outside my apartment. I love that noise. It always makes me smile.
In my house we call that ‘barking’. It DOES bring a smile to my face. *Hugs and scratches to Big Syl*
My baby giggles *ick ick ick LICK*
They are in such a serious trance when they “bark”!! Love it when they do that!!
We call that “breeping” in my house. Does anyone know the hicka-hicka? It’s the sound kitty makes just before upchucking. With 2 old fuzzies, the hicka-hicka happens often. Sometimes, it seems like they take turns…
Yesterday, I had the wonderful experience of hearing the following sequence of events:
hicka-hicka…hicka-hicka….SPLORK!
Badcat decided that the best place from which to let his hairball-full-o-cat-chow fly was from the TV cabinet, about 4 feet up. The SPLORK was…splorky, to say the very, very least. :::shudder:::
My Trixie “acks” when she sees birds from the deck-it is just too cute! We have a lot of trees and therefore a lot of birds.
Ferocious Mollie Little
Perched on the garden log
Ready to attack
The unlucky passing dog
Spectacular silver shading
Glinting in the sun
The sparkle in her feisty eyes
Says this girl is ready for fun
The world outside can be scary
And make one extend their claws
But in the garden it is lovely
A nice place to take a pause
Great poem, Meezer Mama.
I love that puffed out tail. Don’t mess with this kitty!
Great poem Meezer Mama!! Future Halloween Kitty in training! What absolute cuteness!!
Beautiful poem, just like all the others I have enjoyed.
thank you.
What a lovely poem for my Mollie,I can`t call her little anymore, she is a big girl, very sweet but she has the same temper as she had as a kitten. That pose she displayed in the picture, she is more than happy to show cats and dogs, who are passing our house. Thank`s for the poem,we like it very much, and as you wrote in the poem, the garden is a lovely place now when spring is here, after a cold Swedish winter. Lots of Meows from us!
Can anyone direct me to a site or brand of pet food that makes its products from ingredients within the US? I saw one once when clicking on links, but gawd only knows if I could ever find it again. The ad said something specific about US ingredients only. Thx
Laura–here is one…

Lovely Mollie Little!!!!
Hej, lilla svenska kattunge! Vad Du ar gullig!
Bork, bork, bork!
Hey, are you Swedish?
For you Swedish Chef fans:
http://www.almac.co.uk/chef/chef/chef.html
Ahh-hah-hah! I should have remembered that.
The Swedish are our beloved neighbors. I doubt there’s any Finnish celeb/character you would know.
awww dont be scared miss molly
Too funny, Little Mollie!…or Mollie Little…she’s all puffed out in her scary Halloween kitty pose. I love it when they do this, especially as kittens…TERRIFYING! LOL..
What a fierce beauty!
cool site—easily make homemade pet food for your cats and dogs…
https://secure.balanceit.com/_client/
I think my 8-month-old kitten would eat homemade, but the 7-year-old guy is so finicky. Seems to like all dry cat food, but will only eat one brand and flavor of wet, and rarely ever touches people food. I suspect he would not eat homemade pet food. I will try this out, but I do not have high hopes. Thank you for the link.
Heja Sverige!
She is such a beautiful little fur ball. Silver suits kittens so well and I adore that puffy tail. It makes her look so big and scary. 😉

To Laura, thanks for the repeat post, I wasn’t on line yesterday so I
missed it.
Little Molly, looking as big and scary as she can!
Fabulous picture!
Interesting article about a “cursed” painting…
http://www.ufoarea.com/aas_cryingboy.html
Hmmm,creepy looking painting. I don’t think I would’ve bought one.
that is one creepy painting. he doesn’t look like he’s crying to me, it looks like he’s giving someone the evil eye. i wouldn’t have bought one either.
What a cutie!! I hope she got the bug or fly that caught her eye!! Tasty!!
mmmmm bugs *lifts head, then goes back to sleep on the floor from all the champagne and Baileys*
coiled up like a spring! i’m glad she enjoys the outdoors. first time outside is always an experience. my baby wouldn’t get off my shoulder the first time i took her out, five years ago.
Here are 21 desserts–each using only 3 ingredients!
http://www.womansday.com/cooking/11555/1-2-3-desserts.html
Oh Mollie is a beauty !!! Great photo of her!
Am I too late for the strawberries and Mimosas ?? Been a busy day at work… 🙁 Dang work, getting in the way of my social life again
Plenty left! and all the other goodies too. 🙂
Peers into bags and sees there a few chocolate filled or almond filled croissants. Hands one to One Popoki as someone fills up a glass of mimosa and strawberries.
Love the Christmas tree tail! Hey, somebody put on a star on the tip, maybe hang a few icicles and a popcorn garland and let’s sing what I sing to my calico kitty whenever her tail gets that way: “It’s beginning to look alot like Christmas….”
Mollie is a dollie!
nice recipe from Cooking Club of America
Pasta Primavera
This pasta dish tastes light, yet it has a nicely rounded flavor, thanks to a little butter and half-and-half. If you have some extra time and don’t mind shelling fresh peas, use them in place of the frozen ones. Their flavor and texture can’t be beat. If you use frozen peas, don’t worry about thawing them. They’ll cook quickly when added to the sauce.
8 oz. farfalle (bow-tie pasta)
3 tablespoons butter
1 lb. asparagus, cut into 3/4-inch pieces (2 1/2 cups)
1 cup julienned carrots
1/2 cup frozen baby peas
3/4 cup half-and-half
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (3 oz.) finely shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
1. Cook farfalle in large pot of boiling salted water according to package directions; drain.
2. Meanwhile, melt butter in large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add asparagus; cook 2 minutes. Add carrots and peas; cook 3 minutes or until vegetables are crisp-tender. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add half-and-half and salt; cook 1 minute or until half-and-half is hot (do not boil).
3. Add farfalle to skillet; toss. Add 1/2 cup of the cheese; toss. Serve pasta sprinkled with remaining 1/4 cup cheese and basil.

Thanks Dee! Copied this one, sounds absolutely wonderful! YUM!
Ouch. That’s not diet food right there. Great recipe, though — I may have to note that one down and try it some night when I can splurge.

go. read. enjoy.
hilarious!
Spent a couple years waiting tables. This one kind of hits home

go. read. learn.
Interesting… but I need more time than I should be taking at work… 😉 thanks for the link
wow
What precisely were we to learn?
learn what you will, or don’t, the choice is yours
O, wise one.
Did you have a rotten week Instinct? You don’t sound like yourself.
Allergies. Eyes have been trying to claw their way out of my head all week.
Makes me a little grumpy.
cute cat though 🙂
Can you take Claretin D? Hope you can find something to help, Instinct. Meanwhile, cheer yourself at our virtual buffet.
Yea, just haven’t had a chance to get to the store.
Besides, gives me a reason to be grumpy 😀
Lynn from PA, am I on your your cat scratch and hairball list after Tuesday?
Of course not, Bryan. I respect and appreciate all responses here on the site. Was very busy at work and didn’t have a chance to talk til now. Thanks for asking.
Thanks!!! :0) I am usually to busy to get on TDK very often. Plus I like to walk at lunch time. Good stress reliever and gets me outside for some fresh air and sunshine assuming NE Ohio has any sunshine. lol Wish I could get on TDK more often. Happy to know I do not have anyone mad at me. Hope your day was not too stressful.
Thank you, my friend. I want to start walking at lunch too, to get away from the stress of my job. Haven’t had too much sun lately, here, but looking good for the next couple of days. Don’t get on TDK as much as I used to either, but if I don’t respond, doesn’t mean I am not lurking. Not mad at you. Hope you have better days ahead. Happy walking! Later!
Here’s one for our Fuzzbutts
Cat’s Meow Cookies
7 oz mashed sardines (2 cans drain oil)
1/4 cup dry non-fat milk
1/2 cup wheat germ
Thoroughly mix ingredients together. Roll into approx 30 balls about the size of a marble. Place on a cookie sheet treated with fat free non stick spray. Bake at 350 until brown, 12 to 15 minutes.
Let cool before removing, store soft cookies in air-tight container in refrigerator.
May all fuzzers enjoy!!
My cats wouldn’t eat that. They absolutely will not eat seafood of any kind. Weird, huh?
Thanks, LeeAnne. Mine might like this. I’m going to try it.
What a cute hair-raiser Mollie Little is! Kiss Kiss to her!

**”Glycemic load” of diet has no effect on weight loss**
By Amy Norton
2 hours, 16 minutes ago
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – When it comes to losing weight, the number of calories you eat, rather than the type of carbohydrates, may be what matters most, according to a new study.
The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest that diets low in “glycemic load” are no better at taking the pounds off than more traditional — and more carbohydrate-friendly — approaches to calorie-cutting.
The concept of glycemic load is based on the fact that different carbohydrates have different effects on blood sugar. White bread and potatoes, for example, have a high glycemic index, which means they tend to cause a rapid surge in blood sugar. Other carbs, such as high-fiber cereals or beans, create a more gradual change and are considered to have a low glycemic index.
The measurement of glycemic load takes things a step further by considering not only an individual food’s glycemic index, but its total number of carbohydrates. A sweet juicy piece of fruit might have a high glycemic index, but is low in calories and grams of carbohydrate. Therefore, it can fit into a diet low in glycemic load.
However, the effort of figuring out what’s an allowable carb might not be worth it, if the new study is any indication.
Principal investigator Dr. Susan B. Roberts, of Tufts University, Boston, and colleagues found that a reduced-calorie diet, whether glycemic load was high or low, was effective in helping 34 overweight adults shed pounds over one year.
Study participants who followed a low-glycemic-load diet ended up losing roughly 8 percent of their initial weight, as did those who followed a high-glycemic-load diet.
“The bottom line is that in this study we don’t see one single way to eat that is better for weight loss on average,” Roberts told Reuters Health. Of course, that doesn’t mean “anything goes” as long as you’re cutting calories.”
A super-sized serving of French fries won’t do any dieter any good, she noted.
Both diets her team used in the study were carefully controlled. For the first 6 months, participants were provided with all the food they needed, and both diets were designed to cut their calories by 30 percent while providing the recommended amount of fiber, limiting fat and encouraging healthy foods like fruits and vegetables.
The comparable outcomes suggest that, among healthy diets, no single one stands out as better, according to Roberts. So the focus should be on calories, rather than specific foods to avoid or include.
“Focusing on calories is something we need more of, especially when portion sizes are so absurd,” Roberts said, referring to the portions served at so many U.S. restaurants.
This doesn’t mean, however, that there’s no place for diets that focus on glycemic load, according to the researcher. Some studies, for example, have found that low-glycemic index foods might help control blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes.
And in their own research, Roberts said she and her colleagues have found that low-glycemic index diets do seem more effective for overweight people who naturally secrete high levels of the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar.

I will only be happy when they design a diet that allows my body to lose weight and eat normally meaning can still eat enjoyable foods without worrying about gaining weight. In other words, need a cure for loving food too much.
**Survey Reveals Most Satisfying Jobs**
Wed Apr 18, 11:10 AM ET
Firefighters, the clergy and others with professional jobs that involve helping or serving people are more satisfied with their work and overall are happier than those in other professions, according to results from a national survey.
“The most satisfying jobs are mostly professions, especially those involving caring for, teaching and protecting others and creative pursuits,†said Tom Smith, director of the General Social Survey (GSS) at the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago.
The 2006 General Social Survey is based on interviews with randomly selected people who collectively represent a cross section of Americans. In the current study, interviewers asked more than 27,000 people questions about job satisfaction and general happiness. Individuals’ level of contentment affects their overall sense of happiness, Smith said.
“Work occupies a large part of each worker’s day, is one’s main source of social standing, helps to define who a person is and affects one’s health both physically and mentally,†Smith states in a published report on the study. “Because of work’s central role in many people’s lives, satisfaction with one’s job is an important component in overall well-being.â€
Job satisfaction
Across all occupations, on average 47 percent of those surveyed said they were satisfied with their jobs and 33 percent reported being very happy.
Here are the Top 10 most gratifying jobs and the percentage of subjects who said they were very satisfied with the job:
Clergy—87 percent percent
Firefighters—80 percent percent
Physical therapists—78 percent percent
Authors—74 percent
Special education teachers—70 percent
Teachers—69 percent
Education administrators—68 percent
Painters and sculptors—67 percent
Psychologists—67 percent
Security and financial services salespersons—65 percent
Operating engineers—64 percent
Office supervisors—61 percent
My job satisfaction went up when I started ‘talking’ on TDK… 😀 Other than that, it’s just a job that pays the bills.
Hmmm…I wonder about the Security and Financial Services Sales person job satisifaction. I worked in that industry for 9 years in operations and as a sales assistant and unless they were making a lot of money churning people’s accounts, they were not happy. I guess I didn’t work with the types who were satisfied as they always made my life a hell at work.
Sorry, Karin, to hear your work was hell on earth. Are you still doing that, or have you changed carreers? Some of these don’t make sense to me either. However, my job is in the dissatisfied catagory! Gee, wonder why I come home stressed!! Hang in there! thanks for the input.

I had to kinda shake my head at this one Dee. I’ve spent my entire life (well,i’m 53,but don’t tell anyone) trying to gain or keep a stable weight. After reaching a certain point,I had to cut out alot of the so-called fatting foods or salty foods to keep a healthy cholestrol & blood pressure in check. I’m lucky to stay put at 100 lbs.(i know someone’s gonna hate me for that) lol. What’s a person to do? (shaking my head again)
I have gained and losed the same 30 lbs only to have it double each time. I now have 80 lbs to lose and am not motivated to go to the 24 hour Fitness gym that I just signed up with my husband. I wish I was in your place, Susie.

Got this one the other day–you know who you are!
Ways to Know You’re a Teacher
You believe the staff room should have a Valium salt lick.
You find humor in other people’s stupidity.
You want to slap the next person who says, “Must be nice to have all your holidays and summers free.”
You can tell it’s a full moon without ever looking outside.
You believe “shallow gene pool” should have its own box on the report card.
You believe that unspeakable evil will befall you if anyone says, “Boy, the kids are sure mellow today.”
When out in public, you feel the urge to talk to strange children and correct their behavior.
Marking all A’s on the report card would make your life SO much simpler.
When you mention “vegetables” and you’re not talking about a food group.
You think people should be required to get a government permit before being allowed to reproduce.
You wonder how some parents even managed to reproduce.
You believe in aerial spraying of Prozac.
You really encourage an obnoxious parent to check into home schooling.
You have considered offering to pay moving expenses to get certain students out of the district.
You’ve ever had your profession slammed by someone who would never dream of doing your job.
You can’t have children of your own, because there is no name you could give a child that wouldn’t bring on high blood pressure the moment you heard it.
Meeting a child’s parents instantly answers the question, “Why is this kid like this?”
Good one Ginny. ROTFL
I work with a bunch of ex-teachers – I’ll have to show them this!
I agree with the part of “You think people should be required to get a government permit before being allowed to reproduce” as the people who can’t take the time to teach their child manners, respect of others and good habits shouldn’t be allow to reproduce. I have three examples in my apartment neighborhood who allow their children to run around screaming and the twenty somethings below me who think nothing of walking into the unit below five or six times in 10 minutes making sure to bang the screen door and front door very loudly (makes my walls shake). Growl!
I can’t imagine living in San Fransisco if you were claustraphobic (sp?) because of the close proximity to your neighbors & the traffic. You must have alot of patience. I can relate to the wall-shaking. lol
I hear you, Karin. I live in a mobile home park and as you can guess, we live very close together. New neighbors moved in a couple of months ago. Youngest child thought it would be fun (I guess) to beat on the side of my trailer. My babies ran like heck and wouldn’t come back to the kitchen to eat. This is where he banged. They were not used to the noise, since an older woman and her son, quietly lived there before. Also, walking through my flower bed didn’t faze him either. His brother and him also liked to relieve themselves not 50 feet from the home as well as some neigborhood boys. My grandaughter doesn’t need to see this, nor do I. I have talked to the mother about this, but disrespect, is still disrespect. I am working on this and I won’t take any crap with this family. I pay my rent and all I ask is respect. However, I don’t think the younger generation gets it. I sympathize with you. Know that you are not alone. Wishing you the best.
Hello Lynn from PA. I also live in a mobile home so I know what you mean. Same kind of disrespect of humans & animals.
Thank you, Susie for the kind words and understanding. We need to stand up for common decency.
**Tech to award degrees to shooting victims**
Associated Press
April 19, 2007, 10:56 AM EDT
BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech officials announced Thursday that the victims of Monday’s shooting would be awarded their degrees posthumously and that other students might have the option of ending their semester immediately.
Classes are scheduled to continue at Virginia Tech on Monday.
In addition, University Provost Mark McNamee said school officials were outlining a way to let students complete their courses, possibily by allowing their work to this point in the semester count as completed.

BREAKING NEWS: Melamine in Corn Gluten Linked to South African Pet Illnesses
April 19th, 2007
The 29 cases of renal failure in South Africa has been linked to melamine in corn gluten used in pet food. Corn gluten is used extensively in the US.
Tests have confirmed that Vets Choice and Royal Canin dog and cat dry pet-food products contained corn gluten contaminated with melamine, says the manufacturer.
The contaminated corn gluten was delivered to Royal Canin by a South African third-party supplier and appears to have originated from China.
We were tracking cases of the South African pet deaths before and have heard rumors of corn gluten contamination.
At this point, we believe that all corn gluten should be considered at risk for contamination and should be tested by every pet food manufacturer and the FDA.

This is sure to start causing panic. Us pet-lovers & owners are running out of options. I hope the government starts looking into the possiblity of our own human food chain being contaminated!!!!!
Good Lord, when will this end and what the heck to we feed our babies?? Feeding mine, Friskies, dry and wet, and 9 lives tuna. So far so good. Hope all of your babies stay safe. PLEASE, keep posting any information you come across. We need all the help we can get.
I know what your saying Lynn. I’m feeding my 15 fuzzes the same thing(Chef’s blend dry & Friskies,9-Lives,& Fancy Feast Wet) Been feeding them this for years w/no problems(knock on wood) I hope they get to the bottom of all this.
I hear ya, Susie, just keep on feeding the babies what is not causing any problems at this point. I just feel for those of us here who can’t find a food for their babies.
*Praying for all babies out there, that they are safe and eating and stay well*
Susie, just reread your post. 15!!!! names please! God bless you all and kiss them for me. See ya later. Going to bed now. Check in tomorrow.
My kids eat Royal Canin….I’m starting to worry.
!!!! The Purina One that I feed my kitties uses corn gluten! I sure hope all the companies that use this product will perform tests!
I feed Purina One to my babies too. I’m so leery of ANY cat food right now, but what is one to do?
So there are contaminated wheat gluten, corn gluten and rice protein, and all have the same chemical. The wheat and rice ingredients (don’t know about the corn gluten) were manufactured by different companies. So how did they get contaminated with the same thing? This is a fundamental problem of the food safety system (or lack thereof), and not just a problem with one irresponsible company.
Thanks for the post Elene. Every time I feed my cats I wonder if this is the bowl of food that’s gonna do it. Sigh.
‘Melamine is used in fertilizers, pesticides, colorant, making of plastic, glues and flame retardants…’
I read today–and now I can’t find where, or I’d cite it– that supposedly, spiking gluten products with melamine increases their protein content on testing, thus making the product more valuable.
If this turns out to be a case of corporate greed, I really don’t know what I’m gonna do. I’m terrified to even feed my guys anymore.
oops…just read down a bit and discovered somebody else got to the protein/melamine connection first! sorry to be repetitiveive…:)
Swell… I just threw out the empty bag of Iams dry hairball formual. I presume that particular bag is/was ok as my cat is just fine. Don’t know what to do any more !!!
I am at the end of a bag of the same. I don’t know what to do, I am considering Trader Joes though…. but I am gonna read every bit of the fine print. even then… I don’t know.
beautiful

**Police, zoo dismiss death threat against Berlin’s famous polar bear**
Canadian Press
Published: Thursday, April 19, 2007
BERLIN (CP) – While Americans enjoy the right to bear arms, maybe the Berlin Zoo should be issued the right to arm bears.
Someone has made a death threat against the zoo’s famous polar bear cub, Knut. A fax sent to the zoo Wednesday read, “Knut is dead. Thursday noon.” Zoo officials immediately alerted police.
But they dismiss the threat as a hoax.
The zoo says it will not change Knut’s viewing schedule.
Knut has lived a life of controversy since his birth Dec. 5.
After being rejected by his mother, one animal rights advocate suggested Knut should be killed rather than live a life of captivity.
Up to 15,000 people line up each day to see Knut.
Why are they picking on Knut? He didn’t do anything wrong.
I hear ya HM, I read he was teething and now the death threat. Leave the little one be. He really is a cutie! Wishing him the best.
**Conservation Officer: Wolf Chased Cars**
Wednesday, April 18, 2007
(04-18) 18:23 PDT Brimson, Minn. (AP)
When conservation officer Steve Peterson got a call that a timber wolf was chasing vehicles on a country road near Brimson, he thought it was prank or a misidentified German shepherd. But then he saw it firsthand.
“I couldn’t believe it. It was like a dog chasing cars,” Peterson said. “It looked like a big, healthy male wolf. No mange.”
Responding to the call last Friday, Peterson saw the animal hide in the ditch as a pickup approached and then come bounding out to chase it.
The wolf did the same when Peterson drove to that spot, where he stopped his vehicle.
“He hung around for a minute or 90 seconds and then walked off. I haven’t heard any more reports since then,” Peterson said. “I don’t know if it was protecting some food or what. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve seen turkeys and ducks and geese chase after people’s cars, but never a wolf before.”
Roughly 3,000 wolves live in northern Minnesota. Usually, wolves stay away from people and vehicles.
**Semi Driver Checks on Doughnuts, Crashes**
Wednesday, April 18, 2007
(04-18) 18:25 PDT Minot, N.D. (AP)
A semi driver whose truck rolled on its side, dumping a load of specialty sunflower seeds, says it happened when he tried to check on a couple of doughnuts.
Merv Bontrager of Milo said he looked away briefly from an off-ramp on which he was driving Tuesday morning and ended up rolling his rig on the southeast edge of Minot.
It seemed to happen in slow motion, he said.
“I just looked down briefly on the floor where I had thrown a couple of doughnuts I was going to eat later, to see where they had landed,” Bontrager said.
“It was too late. I couldn’t bring it (the truck) back, and started going over. That’s all it took,” he said.
Bontrager suffered minor cuts on his knuckles, though he said his ego was bruised.
He was hauling the specialty sunflowers from a farm near Newburg to an elevator in Pingree, in south central North Dakota, when the crash happened.
Those must have been some donuts for him to be so foolish. I bet he is embarrassed and will be hearing this story for a long time from all his trucking friends.
And to think I was b***ching about people on cell phones! His ego should be bruised, along with about a few other parts of his body!
**Cockatoo mothers creme eggs**
A confused cockatoo at a wildlife sanctuary has spent a fortnight trying to hatch a bowl of chocolate eggs.
Pippa has been protecting the chocolates at Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary since she was taken outside and saw them on a table.
Her owner, Geoff Grewcock, said: “She went straight over, climbed on the creme eggs and that was it. She thinks they’re her eggs.
“Until she clicks they’re not real eggs, we’ll just leave her there.”
The 17-year-old cockatoo, who has been at the sanctuary for about four years, is expected to live until the age of 70.
Mr Grewcock described her as “very, very protective” and she had been through a “maternal stage”.
He said: “She picked an egg up and threw it at a photographer with her beak as if to say ‘leave my eggs alone. They’re mine’.
“She’s got so much character it’s unbelievable. She hates men – we’ve had a builder in who had his neck bitten. We had to prise Pippa’s beak off his neck.
“When she attacks you, she attacks your ear lobe – she goes straight through them. We do free ear piercing here. She’s ever so comical – always has been.”
Poor mama! Hope she finds some other eggs to hatch! too funny!
How cute..!!!!!
**Man Brings Donkey To Testify In Dispute About Animal**
POSTED: 10:59 am PDT April 19, 2007
DALLAS — Faced with complaints that his donkey was too loud, attorney Gregory Shamoun decided to bring his case directly to the court: He had the donkey testify.
Buddy the donkey appeared in court Wednesday. He walked to the bench and stared at the jury, the picture of a gentle, well-mannered creature and not the loud, aggressive animal he had been accused of being.
Shamoun was in a dispute with oilman John Cantrell, who had complained to the city about a storage shed Shamoun was building in his backyard in Dallas. Cantrell said Shamoun retaliated by bringing the donkey from his ranch and putting him in the backyard.
Cantrell complained of donkey noise and manure piles.
“They bray a lot any time day or night. You never know when they’re going to cut loose,” he testified.
Despite the donkey’s appearance, neither jurors or Buddy had the last say — the neighbors settled their dispute while jurors deliberated.
This one just cracks me up! Never should’ve gone to court anyway! Glad the donkey didn’t have to serve any time! Yee Haw!!
Y’all may already be aware of this. If so, please forgive the duplication. I’ve been under the weather for several days and felt too bad even for a daily dose of TDK. This article does say that the contaminated corn gluten found in South Africa did not make it to the U.S., which I noticed some posters were asking about earlier. That’s small comfort, anyway.
FDA probes whether pet food was intentionally tainted with an industrial chemical
By ANDREW BRIDGES
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) — Imported ingredients used in recalled pet food may have been intentionally spiked with an industrial chemical to boost their apparent protein content, federal officials said Thursday.
That’s one theory being pursued by the Food and Drug Administration as it investigates how the chemical, melamine, contaminated at least two ingredients used to make more than 100 brands of dog and cat foods.
So far, melamine’s been found in both wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate imported from China. Media reports from South Africa suggest a third pet food ingredient, corn gluten, used in that country also was contaminated with melamine. That tainted ingredient has not been found in the United States, the FDA said.
FDA investigators, meanwhile, are awaiting visas that would allow them to visit the Chinese plants where the vegetable protein ingredients were produced.
“Melamine was found in all three of those — it would certainly lend credibility to the theory that it may be intentional. That will be one of the theories we will pursue when we get into the plants in China,†Stephen Sundlof, the FDA’s chief veterinarian, told reporters.
Chinese authorities have told the FDA that the wheat gluten was an industrial product not meant for pet food, Sundlof said. Still, melamine can skew test results to make a product appear more protein-rich than it really is, he added. That raises the possibility the contamination was deliberate.
“What we expect to do with our inspections in China will answer some of those questions,†said Michael Rogers, director of the division of field investigations within the FDA’s office of regulatory affairs.
Wilbur-Ellis Co., the U.S. importer of the tainted rice protein, said Thursday it was recalling all the ingredient it had distributed to five U.S. pet food manufacturers. The San Francisco company in turn urged its customers to recall any products that may be on store shelves.
So far, just two of those companies have done so: Natural Balance Pet Foods and Blue Buffalo Co.
Natural Balance, of Pacoima, Calif., announced a limited recall Monday of its Venison and Brown Rice canned and bagged dog foods, Venison and Brown Rice dog treats and Venison and Green Pea dry cat food.
Blue Buffalo, of Wilton, Conn., followed Thursday by recalling 5,044 bags of its Spa Select Kitten dry food. The company intercepted most of the kitten food before it reached distribution centers, company co-founder Billy Bishop said.
FDA officials would not release the names of the other two manufacturers that Wilbur-Ellis supplied, citing its ongoing investigation.
The FDA and Agriculture Department also were investigating whether some pet food made by one of the five companies supplied by Wilbur-Ellis was diverted for use as hog feed after it was found unsuitable for pet consumption.
“We understand it did make it into some hog feed and we are following up on that as well,†Sundlof said.
The FDA could not provide updated numbers of pet deaths or injuries due to the contaminated pet food. The agency has received more than 15,000 calls since the first recall was announced more than a month ago.
