Bossy baby!
Caught in mid “Now!”
Yes – exactly! I have a photo of my kitty Tikka just like this where she was saying she wanted her dinner “NOW!”
Sweet little Mischief – I’m sure the name is totally appropriate!
Aww, a little Florida kitty! What an expression and such huge paws!
CatRancher posted late in the evening asking for prayers for her and her family. Her mom died at 3:00PM yesterday with CatRancher and her sister holding their mom.
Thank you so much for posting this notification, Susan! I did miss CatRancher’s post yesterday. My thoughts are with her and her family. It’s so difficult to lose those we love, and it’s even more difficult to see them in pain for some time. I’ll be sending my strength to her!
:::hugs to CatRancher::: I’m sorry for your loss…sending good thoughts your way, and keeping your family in my prayers
WHAT??? Oh my gosh. I will definitely send my prayers her way. Bless her heart.
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, HM? We’ve been concerned. Are you okay??
It’s ‘meeting season’ here at work. I’ll be crazy until the third week of May and then I can exhale and kick back. Last week my computer at work died.
When I get on here at home usually everybody is already gone. I don’t mind talking to myself, but I don’t like talking to myself on the computer. π
Thanks for being concerned. You guys are so great!
Glad all is well, HM. Missed you. Very little kitty napping going on in the last couple of days.
**puts mischief in her backpack and sends to Catrancher to snuggle with to ease the pain.***
I missed all you guys too. It’s amazing, 6 months ago I didn’t even know this site existed and now I can’t stay off of it – lol. Such a cool bunch of cat people.
Ok that’s allowed since it’s for CatRancher. π
**Brings back Mischief to HM. Catrancher surrounded by loving family and friends now**
Here you go, HM, you can give Mischief to whomever needs her most.
have you seen my new bay he has his own page on catster just click on my name.
Susan, thank you for letting us know. If anyone has her address, please, at the end of the day, clip the well wishes and send to her.
CatRancher, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God grant you the Peace that passes understanding and help to heal your broken heart. May your family and friends pull together and give each other comfort and support and may your mother’s spirit soar high and join those that she loved who have gone before.
I’m sure CatRancher would love hearing from everyone at this time. Her email address is: nelson0254 at msn dot com
Thanks for letting us know Susan.
Heartfelt prayers and healing energy to CatRancher.
Thanks for the address Dee.
yes, thank you Dee, just sent her an email.
Thank you for letting us know. She and her family are in the thoughts and prayers of the Pickett household.
Hi Susan – thanks for letting us know about the late post. Prayers to CatRancher and her family during this incredibly difficult time. I have been missing my Dad lately, so I’m wearing his favorite zipper sweatshirt today. It is comforting.
It is like getting a warm hug from your daddy. Not like him being there but a comfort just the same. Bless your heart Joan.
Purrs ‘n’ hugs to CatRancher from our little cat and human family…CatRancher will be glad that they were there with her at the end. I wish I had been with my Mom when she died. Bless you both.
Much love goes out to Catrancher and her family.
God Bless CatRancher and her family at this very sad time. Prayers and blessings from Debsterwiz and crew. Always remember we are here for you.
Warm and comforting light and love to CatRancher. Yes, she will be very glad she and her sister were there to hold their mom as she crossed over.
May God be with you and your family—-you have our prayers for you and your family.
CatRancher, just wanted you to know that you and yours are in my thoughts & prayers.
Warm thoughts to you Catrancher.
Yes, thanks Susan for letting us know. My prayers and healing thoughts go out to CatRancher – from Rubia
**HUGS** I’m so sorry!
Love and hugs go out to Catrancher and her family in this difficult time.
Catrancher… I am saddened to hear of your loss. Sending good thoughts your way for you and your family.
Catrancher…Prayers, positive energy and hugs to you and your family…. I am sure you will say the right things… just speak from the heart.
My condolences to CatRancher on the loss of her Mom. It is never easy losing a parent whatever age you are. I lost mine at age 9. I send you warm thoughts and prayers and that you find peace in knowing that your Mother is without pain and is with the rest of her family and God in Heaven.
Catrancher, You are in my thoughts and prayers. May your memories be long and your grief short.
Love, Tinafish
Oh, no, I feel so sad for CatRancher! At least she got to spend time with her mom at the end – that’s so important. I’ll be keeping her in my thoughts!
My most heartfelt sympathies. I am glad that CatRancher was there with her mom, and that her mom had her girls with her as she passed over. I will keep you in prayers and thoughts – God Bless.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Catrancher during this difficult time. Sending comforting thoughts and hugs to you and yours.
Oh, Catrancher! I don’t even know what to say…*crying at work* My mom lives on the other side of the country, I would count it a blessing to be able to hold her as she passes. But not haveing lost my mommy…More than just prayers, truly heartfelt empathy.
Sorry for your loss. π
Susan in GA,
I just got through reading CatRancher’s post from yesterday. That is so sad. I left her a post on yesterday’s blog( capitol hill kittens). I missed visiting TDK yesterday.
So sorry for your loss Catrancher. Hugs & Purrs from mine to yours.
–My prayers also go out to you & your family CatRancher. A Mother-Daughter bond are quite unique & I feel your pain. I’m sorry for your loss.
Deepest sympathies for your loss. May the Lord be with you and your family during this difficult time.
CatRancher, I’m so sorry about your loss. We’ll be saying prayers of comfort for you and your family.
Little Mama Mischief! reeeeoooowwww!
I love kitties with catatude. They know what they want and don’t mind telling you anytime, anyplace.

PERN
Any planet worth it’s salt will have dragons and dragonriders!
you betcha!
pern ? what is that ?
This is in reference to a series of books by Anne McCaffery called the Dragon Riders of Pern. Great series by the way.
Could never get through it, myself. Maybe it’s just one of those men and women things.
Nah, I didn’t care for it either, just some folks like the style, and some don’t. Missed you Instinct. Glad you are back.
I loved Ann McCaffery’s Rowan and Damjia. Very cool books.
I haven’t gotten into them-yet. Still too many vampires and weres to keep up with. The hubby is a McCaffrey addict. When she developed angina and let her son take over or co-wrote with that other lady his heart was broken.
I enjoyed the Ann McCaffery books. I just read two books by a new (to me) author, Christopher Paolini–Eragon and Eldest. They are fantastic and I think he has a third book coming out this summer to finish the trilogy. He was only 15 when he started writing Eragon.
Oops–forgot to connect this up to the Pern novels. Eragon and Eldest feature a 15 year old male who is chosen by a dragon to be his rider. It is sort of a Pern world meets Lord of the Rings epic adventure. There are “werecats” in each book that are telepathic.
Oooo…sounds like a must read!
PERN means Parrallels Earth Resources Negligible. Term used by Anne McCaffrey in her Dragonrider books. Of course you don’t find out that the name of the planet “Pern” was taken from the acronym until very far into the series.
I grew up on Pern and Dragonriders! I always fancied firelizards as flying cats. They just seemed so cat-like wonderful to me!!
But no soft fur or purrs…
Oh yes, I thought so too – the early books are the best. Have looked at Eragon, but it seems like a chore – I gave up on Harry Potter after the first one – guess I think some of them doth try to make too much of little.
Oh! I love those books…especially the 1st three and the spinoffs!
I’m sure it isn’t Diskworld!
Not nearly as funny as Diskworld. I am a member of the Rincewind fan club!
Life – just like us? lol!
Actually more like Krypton. 5x’s the mass of Earth with a Red Sun.
Strange visitor from another world, anyone?
and kryptonite so recently discovered in Serbia…
A life sustainable world, not like Earth, more like Mars maybe.
yeah, but can you imagine what the UHaul bill would be when you decided to move there?
T
Awwwwww..sweet!
I have the backpack and the pitchfork so mischief is mine.
Yep….I back.
I’M back, even.
Me back too π
me three…
Awww shucks!! Missed you HM, it’s been a hell of a week.
Missed you HM and Instinct.
Were you and HM sneaking off together somewhere?
Mayhap we were and mayhap we weren’t. π
Mother Abigail!
OMG I can’t believe somebody picked up on that!!
The Stand was just rerun straight through on SciFi channel.
And I watched it, too. All the way through – wasn’t that a couple of Sundays ago?
I read it every year (the entire version, not the shorter one). I don’t usually care for books made into movies, but I think they did a stellar job with that one. Of course, I’m biased.
Good to see you and HM back! YOu were both missed. π
Good – missed both of you!
****HUGGS**
You were missed
I missed you guys too.
Unfortunately it’s ‘meeting’ season so I’ve been running around like an idiot – well like even more an idiot than I already am.
It paid off yesterday though. I got a $100 gift card, 3 bottles of wine, 2 pounds of brisket, 1 rack of baby back ribs. I also got taken to Morton’s Steak House.
Sometimes being an administrative assistant isn’t so bad.
Cool beans, I got $50 cash and taken out for a fancy lunch. Yeehaw!
It’s the least they can do after what they put us through all year long, right?
Got that right!!
That’s wonderful HM !! So nice that those around you see and appreciate what you do … even if it is “your job”… you add that something extra that is specifically YOU !
I have to get my MRI on Friday so I won’t be at work. One of the managers got all cheesed off. “It’s so boring when you’re not here.”
Yeah, I’m kinda zany π
But they all seem to like that so I guess I’ll keep them.
I’m lucky to work at a place that let’s me be me, nutty personality and all.
Hey HM – I’m an Admin. Asst. (a.k.a. Sucker) too! Working like an idiot today; getting yanked in 12 different directions. Went to the animal shelter on my lunch break – instant tension reducer…
Happy Administrative Assistant Day to all of us who are Admins. I interviewed at Merrill Lynch for a Director’s Assistant position. I really want this job. They give very fat bonuses for good performances.
Hi Karin, Good luck on your interview – I hope it works out for you.
Hapy Administrative Assistant Day to all Admins out there. I know your pain – I was an AA for 22 years. It was nice to be spoiled one day out of the year.
HM–someone gave you 2 pounds of brisket as a gift??
Yes they did.
Last year was even better, I got 4 rib-eye steaks, 3 pounds of bacon with the rind on, and some sausage.
I’m a total carnivore. Must be that midwestern thing that creeps up from time to time.
Good for you HM! Happy AA day to you and all the others. Think of me when you’re eating all that good food. Enjoy!
It’s Alcoholic Anonymous Day, too? Darn, I didn’t get any of my inebriated friends/coworkers a card. . . π
My assistant got a box of chocolates, but I definitely get the better deal. I have an incredibly HANDSOME male assistant!!!
**grins**
Georgie’s Mama has “Beef Cake” or aka male candy in her office. Nice to have someone who is easy on the eyes. LOL!
See, now that is just sexist and I am shocked and offended by it. π
One woman in my office has a photo of some singer just wearing a pair of jeans and no shirt on her wall.
I told her if I had a picture of Angelina Jolie in the same pose with the same outfit I would get in trouble. It’s a total double standard π
Good one Instinct!
I used to have a mousepad with a shirtless guy on it and they made me put it up. You can’t have any of that stuff here…male or female. Nothing suggestive.
My boss and the law clerk took me out to lunch for AA Day today! yummy! Plus, I’m always up for a free meal. Happy Admin. Assistants day all!
Sorry Instinct. My sense of humor is kind of warped and I forgot that it my offend the males on this website. I only mentioned that she has someone nice to look at. I worked over nine years in the stockbrokerage industry aka wealth management and you talk about a sexist environment! I use to hear some of the brokers say to the hiring manager to make sure they hired a nice looking sales assistant so they would all have someone nice to look at. I spent 9 years of being around a good ole boys environment! Talk about having to put up with a sexist and discrimanent environment!
I am in a zero to bitch mood here!
Anyone have any “chill pills” available? I think I need some.
*passes chill pills to Karin*
I hear you Karin – I work in IT which is male dominated, and I did a 7 year stint with a firm of Chartered Surveyors, which is very male dominated. And sooo many of them are arrogant, patronising and chauvanistic beyond belief! Used to have great fun taking them down a peg or several though π
Thanks HM! Sorry Instinct.
Oh noo, I wasn’t offended at all. You forget – I was a sailor π
Talk about a sexist environment.
I guess the only time I’m offended is when there is an obvious double standard and the people who create it have the attitude of “so what”
Personally I would like everyone to lighten up and remember that the constitution never said you wouldn’t be offended by something. π
too late!
I got the kitty!
Made myself a nice big backpack
Don’t make me take the pitchfork on an international flight.
Need my broom? Doesn’t need fuel – just witchy power!
Hmmmm…yes. Thanks Joan. π
Wooo hooo witchy woman, see how
High she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman she got
The moon in her eye
Totally got off hearing that on the radio driving home last night!
sharon where is austell?
Elaine in OR,
Austell is in Georgia, near the city of Atlanta, I do believe.
She looks like she’s telling someone what to do π
Wow ! that’s a wild lookiing cat ,maybe she’s not happy about being a mom HM .hope you saw my post about the coffee & baileys thing ,Thought you said coffee & bialys you must have thought I was off the wall also I’m getting One more siamese cat this time a male, the females name is Mai-lee any one have a good name to go w/ a siamese little boy ?
Ming the Merciless
I love the meezers. When can I see pictures? π
I vote for that. Ming the Merciless.
I let mine name themselves. A few days and their personality comes out.
Played by Charles Middleton, in the Buster Crabbe series from the movies. I grew up madly in love with the reruns on tv in the early ’50’s. Rocky Jones Space Ranger, also.
WHAT post about coffee and Baileys????? Two of my absolute favorites!!!!!!!
I made a post about coffee and Baileys, I think it was last week sometime.
Have some. Will you be having the regular Baileys, the mint Baileys or the caramel Baileys? I have all three.
I haven’t been here lately so tell me how Bob is.
It’s goood.
Regular Bailey’s, please!
Bob seems fine – he’s eating, drinking, going to the litterbox (someone asked) and being playful again. Of course I worry every time the little guy lays down to take a nap. Poor Bob, he gets poked at when he’s napping just so his Mommy can make sure he’s okay!
We’re getting ready to move this weekend (just one street over) and I have tried to pack some of Bob’s toys (about half of my possessions!) – they’re in a tall cardboard box and after his initial indignance at having his stuff packed up he’s having a great time perching on the box and trying to extract his toys!
When I move on Saturday, I’m dropping him off at the office (his second home) so he doesn’t get scared or runs away or anything during the move. He likes the office – especially the chairs – they make GREAT scratching posts!!!
*handing out Baileys to all who want it*
I’m so glad little Bob is doing better. I’m sure this must be scary for you. Good luck with the move, and hurry with those pictures of Bob.
Thank you HM. Great Dane, I’m so glad to hear Bob is so much better. He sounds fine π
Me me me, I’ll take a double today!!
I’ll bring donuts and a cheesecake to go with your drinks. How about some homemade chocolate chip cookies, too. Everyone help yourselves!
No meat???? π
Huddy’s Mama,
I guess I can bring some taco burgers or spaghetti.
Will that do for meat?
Or some BBQ beef or chicken for sandwiches or a pot of chili. Take your pick. lol
Tacos, margarita on the rocks, and then chocolate chip cookies, please…yummy way to end the day.
BBQ beef samwich for me please. And a nice cold Heineken to wash it down with. Thanks.
Simon?
Awe, my first meezer’s name was Simon. I would pull him under the blankets with me when I wanted to sleep in. He ruled the house and the neighborhood.
I just visited Simon and Garfunkel at the shelter today.
Great names!
how about bialys since you like them so muchor you can spell it baileys.
What a sweet talkative little girl! It looks like she has a big smile on her beautiful face.
Yes! My thoughts. Happy little face, definitely SOMETHING BIG to say!
Probably “yeah, take my pretty picture!”
Was anyone near the Texas storms/tornado yesterday?
Love this face.
Susan-thanks for the info on Catrancher.
Catrancher-all our love to you and yours. My mom still visits in my dreams to bring messages. Mostly to get on my case about something with my kids. But that’s what mothers do. We are here for you.
Anna in Indpls-you can swap cat and pup stories till the cows come home. Contact me at mombot46 at aol dot com. Sorry your landlord is depriving you. I’d move!
Recently Evangeline brought a young boy to TDK’s attention – he was having a hard time with some leg surgeries and then needed a home. Thanks to her we at TDK sent them enough money to cover all the vet bills and his leg was saved. He is currently learning proper pet manners as one of our newest adoptees. The vet handed us another one who is a baby also and they have turned our hallway into a race track! But I digress. In the process of adopting Bo from the rescue organization my husband would get on the phone with Ginger and talk forever swapping past pet stories. They sounded like old war buddies from the same platoon getting together. π
So Bo is doing better? Glad to hear!
not to be disrespectful, but Geroge Clooney was in my dream last night, and I don’t even really care for him !!! π
Which brings to mind the question: Who DO you care for?:-)
As for my mom, if something is wrong with my kids she comes in a dream showing us having coffee with my children running around at a young age-they’re both 30 something. I call them and sure enough there will be something wrong. If she comes and shows me having coffee with her AND her mother then it’s really big. The first time that happened my older child announced she was getting divorced. I’ve learned to pay attention.
That is so amazing Sharon!
sean connery, richard gere, mel gibson, pierce brosnan, stephan seagal (sp ???)
Pierce Brosnan…yum! Mel yes and Sean maybe..he does have that sexy Scotsman accent. mmmm.
Ooo, Sean Connery can invade my dreams any time he wants. That is one sexy man!
Steven Segal?????
and Steven Segal????
Nah, I’ll take Clooney and Brosnan!
Too late–I already put George and Pierce in my backpack.
π
You can have George and Pierce. I’ll take Harrison Ford anytime!
Viggo Mortenson and Sean Bean….yum yum….
poeticat, you can’t have them both!!!! Maybe I could borrow one while you have the other, and then we can swap?
So, how many times have you watched Fellowship of the Ring, HV??? hehe…there is some great eye candy in that movie in addition to the fact that it is a riveting masterpiece in the true celebration of classic literature. Yeah, that made me sound too much like one of those goofy critics they always quote on the DVD box.
I’ve lost count Amy Lou…. and the Sharp series… all staring Sean Bean… Love those blond boys… there was a horse movie that starred Viggo Mortenson… He was from the US and rode a mustang in some race across the Sahara or something like that…
HV in HMB,
I think the movie was called “Hildago”, that had Viggo Mortensen in it.
Ooh yes, Sean Bean with that sexy accent and Viggo Mortenson. Viggo was sexy in the remake of Dial M for Murder with Gwyneth Paltwrow and Michael Douglas.
Next time tell him to come and invade my dreams.
All I have to do is look at a guy (usually someone famous, sometimes not) and think about him a bit.
Usually that night, I’ll say 99.9 percent of the time, I’ll see them in my dreams.
I love the power of suggestion. I’ve dreamed about the same guy for over a week now. π
Are you dreaming about Instinct?
Nah, I’ve never seen him. Or maybe he’s one of those people that always shows up and I have no idea who they are or why they’re there. π
I’d be the short guy in your dreams with (according to my wife) looks like a thug in blue jeans and boots with a smart a** grin
Are you carrying a saxophone by any chance?
Actually I do play the saxophone. Why do you ask?
Because the guy I see is always carrying a saxophone. But it’s not you. This guy is tall. Taller than me, and I’m almost 6 ft.
yea, that wouldn’t be me then, unless my spirit is larger that life π
π π π
Instinct, are you sure you aren’t related to my husband. He is also a short guy (still taller than I am, but that doesn’t take much), a sax player, and typically wearing jeans and boots. Not to mention he is a cook and artist as well. I would describe his spirit as larger than life, but it would have to be to go with mine.
Yeah, I’m a lucky woman.
Sorry MeezerMama, my brothers keep saying I was adopted but my mom swears that she gave birth to me and I don’t have a twin.
Ha Ha!
To Dee & Instinct: my C & P exam for the VA is scheduled for the 9th of May in P-cola. Let’s hope for a good outcome! Thanks, y’all.
T
Good luck!
My comment was about George Clooney but if poor Sean Connery hasn’t been used and abused too much I’ll take him too. He looked so sexy a couple of years ago I think on the Oscar’s with his dress kilt on wowzer. You can tell how happy a Scotsman is to see you by the tilt of his kilt.
You don’t WHAT??????????
Hey Cheri! Can you send George over to my dreams tonight? It’s been awhile.
8)
My dad has visited me in dreams – I’ve documented them. There’s also a male cardinal that is often singing his little heart out in my yard. I always look for Mrs. Cardinal, but he’s a loner, unlike another cardinal couple that comes around. Dad also visited me on vacation the summer after he died, while we were vacationing on the beach of the North Carolina Outer Banks. No, my eyes didn’t see him (I’m crazy, but not that crazy), but my mind clearly saw his presence. He didn’t look at me, just stood on the beach, smiling, looking at the sea. Makes you wonder…
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
–Hamlet (I, v, 166-167)
That’s so weird! I posted this very same quote when we had little Horatio, the beautiful orangie kitten, on here! Great minds, I tell you!
Hey Joan in NJ,
That is really cool and so special that you dream of your dad like that. I have dreams of my dad sometimes when I really miss him a lot. He died in ’88. I was a “daddy’s girl”. I felt very much loved and cared about from him. What a blessing he was to many.
That is really awesome about how he was looking out at the sea!! Awwwww…..
A big smile from a pretty kitty. Love her classic tabby markings.
Just look at that smile!!!!!
She does look a bit Goth with the black lips.
She looks a bit like Pufi from Serbia’s Floridian cousin (of course by now poor Pufi’s nose is all better)… Same big ears.
So sorry to hear about Catrancher’s mum…
This kitty looks like she’s trying out for the role of “The Joker” in Batman…. Silly kitty – you’re supposed to be Cat WOman!
Good call on The Joker! Such an animated little face!
She’s very cute – but why is she having kittens?
Seriously! With so many stray/feral/homeless cats, why would someone breed a non-pedigreed domestic shorthair?
Cute kitten, but irresponsible breeding makes me sick.
Some vets won’t spay until a first litter is spawned. And they did say this was planned. Maybe Kate can add to this. I’ve never had one get pregnant so I can’t speak. I’ve only had babies and they were all neutered or spayed just before puberty hit.
This is true. The vet wouldn’t fix Huddy’s birthmom Tazz until she had a litter of kittens. Which paid off for me in “Huddy” spades.
What’s weird is that once she was spayed, she ran off and we haven’t seen her since. I think she went back to her original owners – but my niece had her for over a year.
Wow. This is the very first time I’ve ever heard of this. I’ve always heard the contrary. Is this typical? It sounds very antiquated to me.
I dunno, as I have only had one female kitty. Unfortunately, she didn’t live long enough to spay OR have kittens.
I really feel that this practice went out decades ago. Most vets/shelters will spay and neuter at 2-3 lbs now. I know some vets prefer to wait till 6 months, but pediatric spaying is now very common.
That’s just goofy! So many vets are saying “SPAY AND NEUTER!!” and then you get some cro-magnon throwback who insists that a female MUST procreate first. Hrmph, there’s my grouchy middle-age catlady voice coming out π I had to have Hermes neutered at six months as part of my adoption agreement. I had the same agreement when I adopted Tansey from a foster home.
Our spay neuter clinic recommends 12 weeks.
Sylvester had to be “fixed” before I was allowed to adopt him. My first cat I got at 6 weeks. I was told at the time to wait till she was 6-7 months old. I spayed her at 6 months. Unfortunately three weeks before she was spayed she received a respiratory shot and when I got her back from the Human Society where she had been fixed she came home with bronchitus. After that she always had a little bit of a phlegmy cough when she got upset or excited. Whiskers has been gone two years now. I still miss her from time to time especially when Sylvester is being a brat like this morning waking me up at 4am scratching at the bedroom door to be let out into the rest of the apartment. Silly Sylvester.
Give my regards to Sylvester!!
I hope you get the job at Merrill Lynch. Financial instutitions always reward nicely which is why I’ve worked at one for the last 11 years.
Sylvester says hi to you HM…headbonks and purrs. Thanks for the positive thought on ML. I actually worked there 10 years ago and stupidly left them for another firm because I was single at the time and was chasing the dollars what with being financially challenged at the time. I should have never left as I would have been the Branch Mgr’s Assistant by now. Oh well..can’t do the “coulda, shoulda, woulda” dance.
At our shelter we spay kittens at 2 pounds, which is about 8 weeks old. The kittens recover within hours of surgery and do great.
If your vet requires a litter prior to spaying I recommend changing vets.
Our drop-off rate is currently at about 350-400 cats a week, most of them moms and kittens. This will increase to about 700 a week in June. (And I’m not making these numbers up, this is my third year here.) Most of them are euthanized for lack of space in the shelter and lack of foster homes. Please, please spay and neuter your pets and consider fostering an abandoned mom and kittens if you wish to experience raising babies.
And she is a very cute kitten. I’ll put my soapbox away now.
I agree with Kimm. I used to work for a vet, and if the cats are allowed to breed and have kittens, I believe it makes a spay more complicated. And I think the hormones involved in having a litter increase their chances for some cancers later on. I could be wrong though. It’s been a few years since I worked there. Maybe things have changed. But it sounds fishy to me.
No, it’s true: for every heat a cat goes into, the uterine/ovarian cancer risk rises accordingly. You should always speuter your cats as early as possible, both to prevent overpopulation as well as future health problems such as cancer, dominance issues, and spraying.
I didn’t want to say anything that was based on pure emotion so I called my vet just now. He said somebody is woefully misinformed and if there is a vet out there who refuses to spay for those reasons report him and find another vet.
Sharon in Austell I am glad everything is working out with Bo
There are many kitties on catster who need a home I am always tempted to turn to you, lovely tdk-ers
Good for you. I won’t even use a vet that doesn’t realize that we’ve done enough parenting to know how to care for our kids after surgery. My vet knows to sedate them in my arms that morning and return them that way in the afternoon. No overnights unless they are new and have never been in our home or it’s really, really serious.
And Bo? He’s a total little jock cat. All brawn and no brain and constantly active. We’ll get Miss Kitty from catster soon. She’s in the Denver area. I can’t wait!
that is totally a myth!!!! Find a different vet if they won’t fix a cat till it’s had a litter – that is crazy talk.
That is crazy talk. Only one of mine, Lucy, has had a litter, but that was with her former irresponsible owners. When she showed up at my house I thought she was pregnant but the vet said she had just weaned a litter. I then made an appointment to have her spayed as soon as possible.
lol @ ‘crazy talk’. Honest, I don’t know anything about female cats so when the vet told us that, we didn’t see any reason not to believe him. My niece knew she was going to give all the kittens away (she had takers for them before they were even born, only one person was disappointed, and that’s because *I* got the cat they were supposed to get).
My vet would never spay or neuter a cat before 6 months. I know a male has to wait longer to be neutered for certain reasons…or so that is what I was told.
That’s what mine would do.
I was told there was certain physical developments needed before they’d neuter Raffles. But they wanted to do Smokey as soon as possible. In the end, they were both able to go in together, so I had two zonked out kitties for a day or so!
I have never heard of waiting for a litter before spaying. I think it is rediculous. I have always spayed at 6 months. I don’t think I could bare to do it to a kitten any smaller. And when they are that young they do not leave my sight. I agree with the other posts, find another vet if you are told this. There are too many unwanted/homeless cats and kittens now, don’t add to it.
I might try and see if I still have the book, but I’ve at least read somewhere that it used to be considered “better” to let a female cat have and raise one litter before spaying her!! I very vaguely recall what seemed like some pyschobabble given as a reason (the cat would be more mentally content or somesuch)
This issue, of “allowing” one’s cat to have kittens, was discussed amongst us a couple of days ago. Kittenmaster made a very incisive comment: no one should make judgments or GIVE RECOMMENDATIONS about how to handle or care for one’s own cat.
There is no evidence at all that this is an “irresponsible breeding”. If this owner wants to have kittens and is able to care for them, it is nobody’s business that s/he chooses to do this. S/he is not dumping the kittens on YOUR lap.
We had a very long colloquy about this issue, and as I said before (and it clearly bears repeating), this is supposed to be a site of support and affection brought about by our mutual love of cats, NOT a forum for judgment. Somebody might just want to have a litter of kittens, the acquisition of which is really none of our business. The fact that this owner is breeding their cat is NOT going to prevent me from rescue efforts, donating to various activist groups that help abandoned cats or any other cat-related activity that I engage in or with; but I do not need to make ANYBODY feel bad about their choices in order to validate my own.
As Kittenmaster says, “Keep It Fluffy”-
High-five Kate!
Total thumbs up!
I was upset about a vet who would not spay. Cause that is ridiculous.
I would not presume to tell anybody what to do.
Go, Girlfriend! I feel the same way when the discussion turns to declawing cats. I believe it’s a personal choice which every owner needs to make. Some agree/some don’t. Personally, I’d rather own (or be owned by) cat/s that are declawed (in order to be allowed in my apt. complex) than have cats with claws out running around in danger. I may not always agree with other postings on this site, but I’m sure many don’t agree with all of mine, either. Isn’t it great to live in a democratic society? π
Aw. FondaHonda, you shouldn’ta brought up declawing. It maybe something that works out for you. I agree with you 100% to have a kitty with a loving home declawed vs running around on the streets is not a contest. But people who declaw a kitty cause they don’t want their furniture scratched shouldn’t have a kitty. Any action taken on bad info is just not right. It is a fact. De-clawing is mutilation I won’t even go to a vet who will do them. It has many disadvantages for the kitty and no benefits except as a convenience for people.
Ok, so because I love my cats, but can’t afford to replace any furniture they may ruin (I know they don’t do it on purpose, but you understand what I’m saying) I shouldn’t have them?
I love my cats dearly, but I worked really hard for a lot of years to get the furniture I have now. I don’t want it scratched up. If I didn’t care that it got scratched up, I’dve gone to the landfill to furnish my house.
My kitties are declawed, and they still love me. None of them thinks they’ve been mutilated and I certainly don’t think they are either.
Evangeline, I totally agree with you – it is mutilation. There are vets out there who won’t do it and I’d prefer my cats go to someone like that. I found out the vet I’ve been using for years does declaw and now I’m in the process of looking for another.
HM Sorry, but there are always alternatives to cats scratching your furniture. In 25 years of having kitties in my life, I never had one I could not teach not to scratch my furniture.
Scratching posts and patience will get the desired results without resorting to declawing,
As I already said in my post, it is a personal choice. I refuse to condemn/prase others on issues that I disagree with. Abortion? Death penalty? I’m sure that all of us who post on this site have varied opinions on all of these controversial issues and are just as intense in our reasonings for these beliefs. Why not just change the subject to something a little less controversial. . . . . hmmmmm. . .illegal immigration?
Now, let’s really talk.
Illegal Immigration…. man, there should be a law against that or something….
Good one, Instinct! π Did you happen to catch the latter posts yesterday/night?
This was posted yesterday…..
Dear President Bush:
IΓ’β¬β’m about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. IΓ’β¬β’m going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.
I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. IΓ’β¬β’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here.
So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that IΓ’β¬β’m on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
Free medical care for my entire family.
English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
All government forms need to be printed in English.
I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.
Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
I will need a local Mexican driverΓ’β¬β’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I wonΓ’β¬β’t make any effort to learn local traffic laws.
In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.
I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and donΓ’β¬β’t enforce any labor laws or! tax law s.
Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox wonΓ’β¬β’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.
However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.
Thank you so much for your kind help.
Part of cat rescue efforts is attempting to convince prospective and current cat owners to do their part to control the cat population. We try to make people aware that there are plenty of already-available kittens who need homes–and if you’d prefer to experience the birth, foster a pregnant stray until she delivers and nurses. The tragic problem of cat overpopulation won’t just go away by itself if we silently “allow” everyone who wants kittens to let their cats crank them out.
Looks like she thinks her name is funny!
***Cities plagued by rodents, emergency declared***
The rodent population in six Peruvian regions has ballooned due to unusual weather patterns and the government declared a state of emergency on Tuesday to control the plague, including in the capital city, Lima.
The rodents are flourishing in some areas because of higher-than-normal temperatures, which favor their reproductive cycle, said Pedro Morales, a spokesman for the Senasa national agrarian health service.
The rampant rodents have affected nearly 150,000 people and 32,100 acres of land covered by crops, livestock and naturally growing vegetation, according to a resolution published in the government gazette El Peruano.
The plague has cost the South American country nearly $5 million and could pose a health hazard if the creatures spread disease via the food supply.
Rodents living near the Andes mountains often eat potatoes and fava beans, while on the coast they feed on white beans, cottonseed and a fruit called “pepino dulce,” which sometimes translates in English as sweet cucumber or pear melon.
“The pepino is manna for the rodents,” Morales said.
Government brigades are fumigating in some areas to thin the rodents’ ranks. The state of emergency will last for three months but could be extended if the problem is not tamed.

**Who me? Researcher creates robot double**
By Takanori Isshiki
Ever wished you could be in two places at one time? A Japanese researcher has managed it, through a robot that looks and moves exactly like him.
The “Geminoid” was fashioned by Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro of Osaka University using a model of his body and hair from his head.
When you poke its face, the robot grimaces like a real human, thanks to the more than 50 sensors and motors that are implanted beneath its lifelike skin. It appears to breathe when compressed air is pumped through its body.
“At first, you may feel strange about the android,” Ishiguro told Reuters. “However, once you are drawn into a conversation, you will forget every difference and feel totally comfortable to speak with it and look it in the eyes.”
Japans is hooked on androids, with several companies selling robots that mimic human action such as playing drums or dancing to music.
With Japan’s population expected to slide by around a quarter by 2050, and immigration a sensitive issue, some laboratories have developed humanoid robots that can work as maids.
But the machines are a long way from the self-aware androids of movies such as “I, Robot” and “Bicentennial Man,” despite the best efforts of Ishiguro, who also does research at Kyoto robotics laboratory ATR.
Ishiguro controls the android’s movements with a remote control and sensors attached to his body.
He can see through its eyes, which act like cameras that beam images back to a monitor.
Ishiguro, who moves his neck or hands to give the robot human-like twitches, is very attached to his robotic twin.
“I don’t find any particular difference between talking through Geminoid and talking as myself,” he said.
“And curiously, when the body of Geminoid is touched by somebody, I get very similar feelings of being touched.”
The wizard asked the natives “Why do you call me Purple?” They replied, that’s what you told us your name was. You said As-a-mauve, so we call you the Wizard Purple.
That is an awesome story. Gotta love the ‘droids!

**Police: Thief tries to trade stolen Jeep**
The Associated Press
Article Launched: 04/24/2007 01:37:34 PM PDT
NORWALK, Conn.- A Bridgeport man has been arrested after he tried to trade in a Jeep to a car dealer, a month after allegedly stealing the same Jeep from that same dealer, police said.
Jazrahel King, 29, was arrested Saturday after a sales manager at Wholesalers of America recognized King’s 2003 black Jeep Liberty as a vehicle that was stolen from his lot in early March.
The sales manager, Diego Coleman, said King brought the sport utility vehicle in, hoping to trade up for a larger vehicle.
“I was left speechless. I couldn’t believe that he would try to take back another car and he didn’t think we would recognize him,” Coleman said Monday.
King had come to the dealership last month to test-drive some vehicles, Coleman said. But there was a problem with King’s credit, so salesmen at the dealership scrubbed the test-drives.
Coleman said he last saw King wandering around the lot as he was preparing the Jeep for a man who had just bought it. The keys were left in the Jeep.
Then the Jeep and King disappeared, Coleman said.
When police inspected King’s Jeep Saturday, they found that the key ring was the same as those issued by Wholesalers of America.
The temporary plate on the vehicle belonged to the dealership and documents found inside showed it belonged to the dealership, Sgt. Ronald Pine said.
we have had that happen here before as well- the couple walked on to the lot, said they wanted to take the vehicle to PC Beach to show it to their mother, who was “buying” the vehicle. No driver license copies were made (this was a new salesperson who had a very SHORT career in automotive retail), no names were exchanged, and eight months later, we recieved a call from a RV dealer in Washington state saying that they had our van, and the couple had stolen an RV from them, on the pretense of taking it across town to show their mother, who was “buying” the RV for them. Like the commercial says, everyone needs an upgrade!

**Course for cowardly canines**
Cowardly canines are being taught to face their fears at a self confidence course designed to bring out the inner wolf.
The course which has been a sell out success in Austria was organised by animal behaviour expert Marianne Prutsch.
She said: “More and more dogs are scared of their own shadows and the course is designed to make them more self confident and secure.”
She said the course at Hannersdorf in the wine growing Burgenland region of Austria was not about making the dogs more aggressive, saying: “Self confident dogs rarely bite and are more fun to be with.
“Nervous dogs who are afraid of everything are even more likely to bite their owners and too often are aggressive.”
Prutsch said that some breeds of dog were naturally more nervous than others, including surprisingly the Doberman, Dalmatians and Border Collies.
She added: “The most self confident are the Irish Wolfhounds, but they are also one of the biggest.”
Maybe this would help my Beau doggy. He’s a 130lb yellow lab but he’s a bit of a coward. Last night when I was walking him an owl hooted and Beau made a beeline for the backdoor w/o doing any of his business and insisted on going in.
How funny! Our lab-mix was a big baby, too. We had to sedate him during thunderstorms and fireworks!
Actually Dee, that could be because he may have very sensitive hearing and the noise hurts.
We had a bearded collie who would get very upset and hide under the bed during thunderstorms, but after we began putting cotton in his ears during the storms he was fine
My calico cat is scared to death of storms. She will cry and not get far from my side when we have them. It doesn’t seem to bother the other ones.
My boss’s yellow lab is a big scaredy too. They call him Scooby Doo as a nickname because he is so cowardly. It’s very funny in the presence of their pekinese.

**Disfigured film critic Ebert defies paparazzi**
Tue Apr 24, 5:06 PM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Borrowing a line from “Gone With the Wind,” film critic Roger Ebert is telling the paparazzi to take all the pictures they want when he appears in public after surgery that has left him temporarily disfigured.
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn,” Ebert said in a column published on Tuesday in the Chicago Sun-Times.
The Pulitzer Prize winner and co-host of the syndicated television show “Ebert & Roeper” had surgery last year for salivary gland cancer that spread to his lower jaw.
Part of his jawbone was removed, and two replacement operations have failed, he said. He is awaiting a third operation.
Ebert, 64, also had a tracheotomy that left him unable to speak. While he has written some movie reviews during recovery, his TV show has used guest critics.
This week Ebert kicks off his annual Overlooked Film Festival in Urbana, Illinois, south of Chicago. As he has for the last eight years, he will host the event.
He said people had urged him not to attend because the paparazzi would take unflattering photos and gossip columns would dish up mean-spirited comments about him.
“When I turn up in Urbana, I will be wearing a gauze bandage around my neck, and my mouth will be seen to droop. So it goes,” Ebert wrote.
“We spend too much time hiding illness. There is an assumption that I must always look the same. I hope to look better than I look now. But I’m not going to miss my festival,” he added.
Ebert said he now communicates “with written notes and a lot of hand waving and eye-rolling.” If a planned surgery is successful, “my speech will be restored.”
Go Ebert!! I wish more people would be like this, then maybe the paparazzi wouldn’t be chasing people around trying to get “juicy” photos.
I wish people would stop buying and gushing over the “juicy” photos. It seems that we all have bad things to say about the paparazzi, but yet lots of people subscribe to or buy the magazines in stores. That’s the sad part.
She’s adorable! But I agree with the others—no litters! And no modern vet believes that she needs a litter first before spaying–they now want to do it BEFORE the first heat if possible, it helps prevent breast cancer.

WOW! She looks like a talker and not afraid to say what’s on her mind. I love it!!! Congradulations on being a grandma to the new upcoming furbabies. Can’t wait to see the “newborn” pixs.
Good morning to all. What a fiesty little kit to admire today! I have my two girls on catster now. Please take a look and allow them to introduce themselves. To Kate the Grate: any decision yet on what time of kit you will add to your mix? Great responses from many TDKers yesterday!
Beautiful fur-babies… !!!
They are very cute! I love the polydactyls. My Merlin (went to the rainbow bridge 2 years ago; lived a good long life, half with me and when i went to college he went to my uncles farm and became the king) was a polydact.
They are adorable. Huddy and his brothers just sent them a friends invite.
The Thundercats, Digit and Furl, have accepted!
Good Morning, Kitten Whisperer:
No decision yet, but for the general one that I will get a pound kitten, so I am waiting for the commencement of kitten season. I don’t want to get another orange kitty, as Rufus is orange and I don’t want them to fight. (When I first brought Rufus home, I took him down stairs to my landlady’s house, as she had an orange kitty the same age as Rufus. It was like oil and water. They chased each other around the house, spitting and hissing. Needless to say, not a successful attempt).
I would like a grey cat. Right now I have Rufus, who orange British tabby; Desdemona, who is a beautiful seal point; her brothers, Darius, who is a mix of everything but looks a lot like an Ocicat, complete with a spotted tummy; Quentin, a tuxedo cat (named after the character played by David Selby in the seminal vampire soap opera, “Dark Shadows”); and Leopold, an exceptionally beautiful tabby who is semi-long-haired (named for Leopold, King of the Belgians, as there is much of the burgher-meister about him).
So, the upshot is that I want a kitten to play with Rufus, and who will add something unusual to my own Rainbow Coalition. I am definitely going to get a boy kitten, though. I have cleared it with Desdemona-
As long as you’ve cleared it with Desdemona, your new cat should do well. π
I am not only “owned” by Desdemona, I am completely dominated by her. She really rules the roost!
As it shoud be said the cat.
They’re adorable. The baby pictures look a lot like my Trixie although she doesn’t have extra toes. I left them a treat.
Beautiful girls!! I just love those toes! Makes me want a polydactyl! Look out for a friend invite from my boys.
What a good looking family! We just sent them friend invites π

**What happens in Vegas, stays – but maybe not your car**
Tue Apr 24, 2:20 PM ET
NEW YORK, April 24 (Reuters Life!) – What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, according to the city’s promotions — but that might not apply to your car.
A survey released on Tuesday by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) showed that Las Vegas is the metro area with the highest rate of vehicle theft in the United States.
In second place came Stockton, California, followed by Visalia-Porterville, California, and Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale in Arizona.
Modesto, California, which topped the list for three consecutive years as the area with the worst per capita vehicle theft rate, fell to the number five position.
“As in 2005, the western United States still ranks as the area of the country with the highest auto theft rates. All of the nation’s top ten areas are in the west with five of them in California,” the NICB said in a statement.
The NICB said in 2006, 22,441 vehicles were stolen in Las Vegas-Paradise which gave it the highest theft rate. The rate is determined by the number of theft per 100,000 inhabitants.
The NICB said it reviewed data supplied by the National Crime Information Center for each of the nation’s 361 metropolitan statistical areas for its annual vehicle theft survey.

If the vet won’t spay a cat until she’s had a litter, you need to get a new vet– and I’d report that one to the state licensing board as well as all humane and rescue organizations in the area. That is serious malpractice as well as stupidity. The goal should be to REDUCE the number of strays, not create more or take up space they could occupy by adoption.
Any animal can be neutered when it is old enough to metabolize the anesthesia. Any one who says otherwise is wrong. Vets (good ones) will give an age, anywhere from 3 to 6 months, for this very reason. Not letting your cat have a litter prevents more than unwanted pets, it prevents hormone related deseases such as cancer, mastitis and a score of other health issues.
I read this as ‘having a litter’ meant letting the cat have the kittens and completing the pregnancy instead of aborting the fetuses. I feel spaying should be done after the kittens are born and weaned. Ideally spay/neuter should be done before the animals are capable of reproducing. Letting an animal get pregnant just so it can be a mom is irresponsible.
Isn’t she cute! I bet she runs the house! Goodluck with all the grandkitties!
I loooove that smilie meow face lol! Cats and kittens are just sooooo wonderfull!
Goodness but this kitty hears good!!! π

**Catapult boy is eaten after taunting crocodile in pen**
Jane Macartney in Beijing
A schoolboy who climbed over a fence into a crocodile enclosure and taunted the animals with sticks and a catapult was dragged into the water and eaten.
The nine-year-old, whose family name was given as Liu, and three friends sneaked into the crocodile park at the Silver Beach holiday resort at Beihai in the southwestern Guangxi region on Friday.
The children shot at the animals with catapults and beat them with sticks.
The official Xinhua news agency said: Γ’β¬ΕOne of the irritated crocodiles bit LiuΓ’β¬β’s clothes and dragged him into the water where he was eaten by a swarm of crocodiles.Γ’β¬Β His companions then raised the alarm.
Investigators searched for the missing boy and decided to check inside the crocodiles. Snipers used pork to lure them out of their pool and shot dead the first animal to lumber on to the bank.
Inside it they found human remains that were confirmed to be those of the boy.
The crocodiles were still being bred, even though their performances at the park were stopped several years ago and the pool had been sealed off for auction.
The parkΓ’β¬β’s owner had hired a keeper to take care of the crocodiles, but it was unclear why the man was not at the enclosure when the boys broke in. The manager and the keeper were being questioned by police.
Animal welfare has long been a low priority in China, where many zoos have for years provided bare and often squalid pens for animals that spend their entire existence in the public eye. Even at the Beijing Zoo, the prized pandas must now be cordoned off well out of reach of visitors. People have in the past tossed food wrapped in plastic bags into their pens which destroyed the digestive system of at least one of the endangered animals.
The latest scandal to attract public attention came last year in Shanghai when a city zoo cancelled its Γ’β¬ΕAnimal OlympicsΓ’β¬Β after shows featuring boxing matches between kangaroos and their keepers, bears fighting and riding bicycles and an elephant tug-of-war drew unwelcome publicity. The event was cancelled after animal rights groups posted reports and pictures on the internet.
I hate to say it but the kid deserved to be eaten. Where were the adults? I really hate zoos and do not believe in keeping animals in cages. Just my two cents and gets down from soapbox.

Coffee and Baileys π
Got some? Can I come by? Or I suppose I could make some coffee in the office. I love my coffee, but unfortunately I’m not very good at brewing it! *sigh*
Just for you I looked this up. It’s from Alton Brown (of Good Eats) on how to make a perfect cup of coffee – and it works too
Brewing a simply perfect cup of Joe can be perfectly simple, if you stick to some basic guidelines:
Buy quality whole beans from a reliable purveyor (preferably a roaster). If you don’t have a grinder at home, ask a salesperson to grind whole beans for you rather than settling for pre-ground.
Purchasing bulk (unpackaged) beans from a specialty shop is okay as long as the bins or jars are relatively small and refilled regularly. Large vats hold a lot of beans and therefore don’t need frequent filling. That means that beans can hang around for a long time being exposed to light and air. That can mean stale beans, and staleness is not a desirable attribute.
Purchase pre-packaged whole beans only when sealed in a foil-style bag featuring a one-way valve. The dime-shaped plastic valve is usually integrated into the packaging so that it will be as unobtrusive as possible, so check carefully. The absence of a valve means that the coffee probably sat and “gassed out” before it was packaged. That means it could be stale. Stale, again, is not a good thing. And remember: paper bags with twist tops are temporary transportation vessels, not storage devices.
Try to purchase only a week’s worth of beans at a time. If you live where this is impractical, purchase several small sealed packages rather than one large one. Unopened one-way valve bags will keep coffee fresh for approximately three months. If you buy bulk coffee (not sealed with one-way valves) in large amounts, divide into weekly batches, seal in Mason-style jars and freeze. Transfer these small batches to counter top storage as needed (see below). Store opened or bulk coffee in an airtight, opaque container and store at room temperature for up to a week.
Grind coffee as close to brewing time as possible. For drip method, grind in blade style grinder for 15 to 20 seconds. For French presses, grind for only 10 to 12 seconds.
Regardless of method, brew using 2 heaping tablespoons of coffee for each 6 ounces of clean (filtered or bottled), cool water. If you prefer a milder cup, brew to full strength, and then dilute with hot water. Brewing with too little coffee will result in over-extraction, and that means bitterness.
If you really want to taste the subtle nuances of regional coffees, consider a gold mesh filter.
When purchasing a coffee maker (either manual or electric), look for a model that brews into a thermal carafe rather than a glass pot designed to sit on a heating element. Continuous heating of coffee leads to bitterness.
Quality decaffeinated coffees usually cost more than regular beans.
I recommend a french press, unless you drink ridiculous amounts of coffee every day. The flavor is so much better and you retain the essential oils from the beans. Always use fresh beans though. And use water that’s just about to boil, but not yet boiling. Yummy, now I want a cup.
Alton is a local boy and hires local talent. I love it when my theatrical watches his show and goes, “Oh look! It’s Scotty!” etc. π
What I love about his show is that he has absolutly no shame when it comes to skits and humor, but it always gets the point he is trying to make across.

Now that sounds evil.
Where did the boy learn that it was okay to treat an animal like that? It’s not the crocodile’s fault that he behaves like a crocodile, so whose fault is it that the child acted like an idiot?
Did I read that right? His friends WAITED until AFTER the swarm ate their friend to raise an alarm?!?
Crocs are like piranha-lightning fast and with a swarm the prey is gone in 60 seconds.
This does not sound like the kind of zoo which should be open. It’s places like this that the late and GREAT Steve Irwin used to rescue the poor animals from. This story is abominable and, I’m sorry the poor croc had to feel the need to defend itself only to be executed for doing so. I am terribly sorry the boy had to learn his lesson the hard way, but if respect for all living things would be taught as it should, things like this wouldn’t happen.

I take it youre NOT a believer? yeah, I’m a believer…I’m a believer
Nope, I’m an Animator π
I just wish they would have actually had a story instead of half a story that they filled in the gaps with lame humor lowered to the level of a 3 year old and animation that just really didn’t work all that well.
Compare it with a movie like A Bugs Life, Cars, or Monsters Inc. They had great stories that anyone could watch and absoultly amazing animation where the characters felt real.
No, I’m not a fan of Shrek
I’m not a fan of anything Disney.
Yeah, take me out and shoot me now.
Depends on what Disney you are talking about for me. Old school of Snow White, Bambi, Fox and the Hound I love. I can’t stand all the ‘Snow White II’ garbage they have been doing.
Also, Pixar was totally independent of Disney until last year, all Disney did was distribute their films. It’s a shame that Steve Jobs sold Pixar to them so he could have more power
I believe it is for 3 year olds!! lol
Is Instinct is too grown up to come out n pway?
Sorry I must be a total dork Instinct but I loved Shrek I I didn’t see two or three. I loved the dumb humor and I cracked up at Donkey.
No, I’m just an animation snob π
One of my failing, I admit
Ok, I think as a cat lover alone Puss in Boots should make the movie for you! I loved both the first two (as an adult, yes) and I thought the humor was great for young and old alike. Yet, I’m a literature person and I kind of like what they’ve done with the cute twists on our classic stories. Charming!
Laboratory researchers exploring human olfaction have found that:
A faint trace of lemon significantly increases people’s perception of their own health.
Lavender incense contributes to a pleasant mood–but it lowers volunteers’ mathematical abilities.
A whiff of lavender and eucalyptus increases people’s respiratory rate and alertness.
The scent of phenethyl alcohol (a constituent of rose oil) reduces blood pressure.
That explains it. Whenever I spritz a little lavender room spray in the office, I can’t add. I’ll have to stop spraying on A/P and P/R days. Thanks for the hint. π

**Woman Houses Goat in Minivan**
POSTED: 10:46 am PDT April 25, 2007
SHERIDAN, Wyo. — Shirley Weidt says people should stop complaining about the goat in her minivan. After all, there’s plenty of room in the ba-a-a-ack with the seats removed.
Despite protests from some residents, city animal control officer Ray Buhr said Weidt isn’t violating any laws or treating the animal cruelly.
“The van is kept clean,” Buhr said. “We’ve checked several times. There’s really nothing in ordinances or state statutes that says she can’t do that. The goat is entirely happy in there.”
Weidt said it’s “nobody’s business” if she keeps her goat in a van. The goat is in the van so it won’t escape, she said.
Beverly Saxton, who lives near property Weidt owns, thinks keeping the goat in the minivan is cruel.
“A farm animal should have the opportunity to graze and exercise,” Saxton said. “When it’s trapped in a van, it doesn’t have those possibilities. That’s not an environment for an animal. That’s hideous.”
Other residents have voiced similar concerns about the goat.
Buhr said he doesn’t like the goat being in the van either, but he said the animal has food and water, and the back seats have been removed for more room.
Buhr said animal control officers will continue to check on the goat, noting that once summer arrives, it might be too hot for the goat to stay in the van.
Wonder if I could try that with my ex. There are soooooo many similarities.
Terrible life for a goat.
Perfect for an ex, though.
Well said, Gladys…..Butt, still a baaaaad situation for the goat!!!!

Bask in the Sunshine
Choosing to look at life in a positive light leads to greater happiness
By Salley Shannon
It’s finally spring in Maryland, and each morning, looking out our back windows is like opening a surprise package. A few days ago, we saw the first new green on the trees. The early tulips are pushing up shoots in the new bed my husband and I dug last fall. Maybe later today it will be warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine for a few minutes.
Every year, the little gifts of spring renew my reservoirs of optimism and the joy I feel in simply being alive. Still, I consider myself fortunate that my sense of hopefulness and inner peace doesn’t depend on sunshine outside, much as I like it. But it does depend on feeling contentΓ’β¬βinner sunshine, you might call it. And what generates those warm rays that soothe the soul? I’ve learned it often is my point of view and the labels I assign to the events of my life.
Two springs ago, when I was facing a small bout of repair surgery, I got a powerful lesson about this. At a church dinner about a week before the operation, I mentioned it to friends. Well, that isn’t the whole truth. What I really did was whine about itΓ’β¬βa lot. On my way out, I ran into Madeline, an older acquaintance, and I complained to her, too. Without missing a beat, Madeline said, “Oh, my dear! Go with great rejoicing! Think about your sisters in the developing world. When they need surgery, they often just suffer for years with no hope of help.”
Talk about ice water in the face! I was so startled, my head actually snapped back. But in the same moment, I knew Madeline had given me the gift of truth, and suddenly my “problem” vanished and was replaced by a blessing. With this new viewpoint, courtesy of Madeline, the time of my surgery and recovery was actually a happy interlude.
Yet, what had changed? I still had to go under the knife.
What I now understand is this: I may not get to choose everything that happens to me, but I do get to choose how I will respond. I was the one saying, “Poor me.” Nobody else. And then, when my perspective shifted, I was the one saying, “Isn’t this terrific? I can be healed in an hour of surgery.” What I later realized is that those around me sang whichever tune I started for them, whether it was “Feel sorry for me!” or “I’m a lucky woman!”
I could be a victim or an overcomerΓ’β¬βit was up to me. And I got exactly the kind of support I sought.
It’s amazing, really. When you change the place where you stand as you look at your life, and when you swap the negative labels you put on events or on yourself for positive ones, it’s like waking up to find yesterday’s brown, bare branches gloriously awash in pink blossoms. Same tree, but renewed.
Try itΓ’β¬βyou’ll see what I mean. For example, have you pinned an “I’m a loser” label on yourself because your marriage ended in divorce or you were laid off from your job? Remember, you get to choose the label. So opt for one that says “I’m a woman excited about her fresh start” instead. Rather than talk about how you failed or were wronged, speak of the hope you feel at this new opportunity to blossom. I bet you’ll find your friends and family echoing your positive, optimistic statements.
It isn’t a matter of painting pretty pictures that ultimately aren’t true. It’s about making conscious choices. Most days, I feel lucky to say, I manage to choose sunshine, inside and out. It’s springtime where you live, too. As you look at your life, are you standing in the sunshine?
You know these things come to you when you need them most. And it did. Thank you Dee. You are sunshine each day on TDK
I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself because, although I’m not an admin assist per se, I do some of that kind of work, without the appreciation or thanks I see displayed above. I can change my way of thinking about… and I shall.
I’ll send you flowers on superheroes day!
Thanks for the great story, Dee. As always, you’ve given us all something to think about. I guess we can all relate to the story today. We all may be having rough times at work, at home, or just in general. But today, we can make our lives better. Think about Catrancher and how her life just changed forever. Our problems today are small. You did good, Dee. Thanks again.

**Boy gets toilet seat stuck on his head**
Wed Apr 25, 9:17 AM ET
LONDON (Reuters) – British firefighters said on Wednesday they had come to a boy’s rescue after he got a toilet seat stuck on his head.
The toddler, aged two-and-a-half, and his mother walked into a fire station in Braintree, Essex, Tuesday saying the boy had put his head through a small trainer seat for the toilet and now could not remove it.
“His mum had tried to get it over his head but couldn’t budge it so she walked him down here and asked us to have a look at it and we went to work and we managed to get it off in no time,” firefighter Chris Cox said.
“We simply put some dish washing liquid on his head and ears and it slid off nice as pie.”
He said the boy had been “very brave” and “toddled away as happy as can be” after his ordeal ended.
Ok, you’re killing me. The truth is always funnier than anything somebody can make up.
JCL
The toddler’s mother, who has sixteen other children, said other than this one blunder, potty-training has been going quite well.
Cox added that the boy’s mother, who’s pregnant with twins, had visited the fire station many times before and said, “We all know her rather well.”
(More “Mischief” indeed!)

Someone, it may have been Elaine from Portland, mentioned Drs Foster & Smith food. They have just issued a voluntary recall of their Adult Lite Canine and Feline Food.

they are talking about rice contamination but 1st tests have proved negative in any contamination final results wil be in in two weeks, the main food supplies are still guaranteed as a safe food, next time read all the link before you post.
Just wanted to let people know about it. There’s an entire shelf in my kitchen filled with Natural Balance and Royal Canin that’s on hold.
Been lurking here since Jan or Feb, started with the kittens and now somehow, I just happen to care.
Welcome kits rule this house!
Elaine, you are wrong, and were rude to the poster you were responding to. Go to the Itchmo site, follow the links, and weep.
Thanks for the heads up, kits rule. I’m pretty new to this site too, but check in every day now. Keep posting! Are you currently owned by any cats?

Mischief looks like our Uncle Raymond (named by the grandkids) when he moved in with us. He was out side during a tornado. that was all he was going to take. He might have three or four months,I guess he’s about ten or eleven now. Not stupid at all let the sirens go and he off to the basement.
Smart kitteh.
That is not how you spell kitten. duhh

Cat Rancher, Sorry to hear about your Mom, I can sympthize with you, I lost my father in Nov. 2005, He suffered a long time with heart problems and is now in Heaven with his brother & sisters & Mom & Dad. He only has one living sisters, she does’t even know her own children so that is sad. So I will keep you in my prayers.
My father also died at 3 AM, put Dr. did not get their to pronounce till 4 AM so that is what they put on death certificate. I am a only child, So me and my Mother were the only ones their for him when he died. They gave him a pain shot and he seems to let out a sig of relief , then died.
So I feel your pain, I still miss my father, But the pain easy up after time. But he said to be happy get on with our lives. We still talk about him and miss him.
Hope you and your family have some relief in knowing in Heaven now. Sincerly, Kathy in Warrior, Al.
—After rereading the comment about Mischief, it says nothing of breeding. In fact, I got the impression that it was Mischief herself that planned it. I don’t know if I’m right about it. It just my observation to the comment.
Do you know my sister Kathleen Brown??
Hi to All, Re The Capital Hill Cats’ am i wrong? looks like a 4th kit between the “twins”. anyone notice this? my deepest sympathy to cat rancher.
There is something there. The dark brown/grey fuzzie looks too big to be a paw or tail.
A fiesty one, eh? Glad she has a good home. God bless you, this little tiger, and her unborn babies, too. π
Mischief looks like she totally owns her humans. What a cutie!
Good girl, show those humans who’s the boss!
What a delicious expression! It is easy to believe Mischief truly deserves her name. I bet she’s a big gorgeous kitty now.
