HA! HA!!!! My kitties love my shoes too!!! I’l never understand it.
they love your shoes cause it is your sent, they assosiate your shose with your sent.
Chey
Sweet pose, looks like something out of a book.
He is so cute guarding those shoes like a little champ. I wuv him!
Not sure about guarding or defending but he sure looks like he likes those shoes! What a sweet little guy! And beautiful color.
Here are some BIG kittens (Jaguars) http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/0,5538,PB64-SUQ9MTg5NjkmbnI9MQ_3_3,00.html
I think cats actually like foot odour; a friend told me that it is part of their behaviour. They always sleep by our feet, no?
And even if we bathe daily and don’t think our feet have an odour, cats are much better than we are at picking up scents.
I believe it. My Tweek loves rubbing up against feet all the time.
is it normal for people to baptize animals in Germany? never heard of it!
Can’t speak for Germany, but in the American South, one of the first lessons learned is “Baptizing a cat is NOT a good idea!”
At least, that’s what Jeff Foxworthy said.
Can you imagine trying to baptize a cat? Yow! No thank you.
I agree with Jeff Foxworthy. If you wnat to keep all of your skin, you don’t attempt to baptize a cat.
What beautiful photos!
I’ve heard of people bringing animals to church to be blessed, but not baptized. That would be suicidal! LOL
In the Catholic and Anglican Church we have the blessing of the pets on the Feast of St. Francis Assisi. I have never heard of baptizing them I am too partial to having all my fingers attached to my hands to try that.
Loved the babies and the baptism. My cats have all been blessed with Holy Water by priests. I think it keeps them healthy and happy. Seems to work well for me too.
Please tell me these kittens are up for adoption!
My boys used to sleep in my shoes until they had gotten too big to fit. Petey now rubs his face all over only one pair of black shoes of mine. Hunter is a doll.
To cats, we all smell like our feet because that is what they are closest to. I think that is why they like our shoes. Such a cute little grey boy. Lots of chin scritches for Hunter
Hunter is beautiful and precious (but aren’t all kitties?)
My middle boy, Maverick, especially loves my 20+ year old Doc Martens. But all of my cats like rubbing themselves on my shoes, Huddy goes so far as to put his front paws in them and start that ‘marching’ motion.
LOL! Our Hudson does the same thing! He LOVES shoes!
Isn’t that one of the funniest things you’ve seen him do? Huddy cracks me up when he does that – and I see it every day when I come home and kick my loafers off.
Taffy used to put his paws/front legs in my shoe and slide around on the carpet. I just thought he was unique now I find out he was just nuts!
Susan–Taffy and Domino sound like they were very special cats…
They were to me but even tho I loved them I realized they were about six treats shy of a full bag.
My female bengal Elizabeth had shoe added to her name for her early obsession with my husbands tennis
Hunter wuvs his shhhtinky hightops! What a sweet little guy!
Isn’t Elizabeth Shue (shoe) an actress? How appropriate for the lively and beautiful Bengal!
🙂
Brandi Lee,
HI, with Cleopatra knocking food out of your hand(I guess that would be a good way to keep the weight off!), Lady Jane, serenading you and Elizabeth playing in your shoes, it must be a 3-ring circus around there! lol I would be laughing so hard, my sides would hurt! Cats are so amusing.
Renee, there is so much more …….Erwin insists on sleepinf on top of me and HUGE George has decided it is much to chilly and under the covers is the best place for him…..Lady Anne actually has a conversation with me and yells at me to turn the water in the tub on……..I have 7 dogs also..so thats a 150 lb German shephard that can get over the gate and a jack russel terrier that thinks shes in charge of making everyone mind, oh that and her missions to the living room to get any cat toy everytime I let her out………Funny story ….we have 3 huge cat trees in the living room (nothing else) in the afternoon the sun hits that room and all the cats are lounging around ……I look and there are actually three adult cats smooched into a section of the cat tree…..they did not car that they were hanging off the thing just that they were cuddling :)……….I never get out of bed right away, I have to let each kitten (5) get under the covers and snuggle…..so it takes me at least 45 min to get up LOL
Sounds like a wonderful life 🙂
the best !!! money cannot but cuddling 🙂
buy
Wow you sure have a menagerie of animals. Must be loads of fun in your house! 😀
always a party LOL
Fear and Loathing in converse! Hail Hail to the King of Gonzo, Hunter!
Good one Tinafish!
Hunter is very sweet. I was surprised by how much cats love cheese. I found a recipe for homemade cheese treats. I will post it if anybody is interested. (Won’t be back until much later. I am very busy today.
Hope you all have a good day 🙂
Please post. My Gracie loves cheese, especially Blue Cheese
Speaking of Cheese, I have an awesome recipe for Beer Cheese Soup for any Human Cheese lovers out there if anyone wants it
I’m sure CatRancher does—can one omit the “cheese” part? (I kid because I love, CatRancher!)
Beer SOUP, done that, been there…Brats soaked in Beer and onion and then grilled….done that, been there…warm beer, done that, been there. Beer Cheese Soup…oh yeah…my travels to Wisconsin often brought a hefty bowl of beer cheese soup! Post the recipe, post hence… Also, does anyone know of a recipe for sausage soup? I have had this soup in LaCrosse, Wisconsin several times at one of my favorite haunts there, but would like a recipe. It’s a broth based soup, not creamy. I was unable to get this particular recipe from the proprietors of the establishment, but there’s got to be a good one out there….
Cat Rancher and Dee, Here you go for a couple of easy soup recipes.
Beer Cheese Soup
16 ounces of shredded sharp cheddar cheese (4 cups)
2 cups of Hot Chicken Broth
1 Cup half and half
1 12 ounce bottle or can of beer
1/4 teapoon of white pepper
1/8 teaspoon tabasco (or more)
3 Tablespoons flour
1/2 stick of unsalted butter
Bacon, cooked until crisp and crumbled
In a large two-quart sauce pan melt butter over medium
heat. Add flour and cook for a few minutes stirring
the whole time. Cook until the flour mixture browns
slightly. It may pull away from the sides of the pan
and form a soft ball of roux. Add hot chicken broth
and stir. Add beer and stir. Simmer for 10 minutes
stirring occasionally. Do not boil. (the alcohol
cooks out of the beer) Add cheese a little at a time
and stir with a whisk. Once cheese is completely
melted and incorporated, slowly add half and half.
This will bring in a velvety texture. Season soup to
taste with white pepper, hot sauce and if desired a
dash of garlic powder or some chives. Top each bowl
with crumbled bacon and a few shreds of cheese. Could
also top with croutons.
My recipe for Italian Sausage Soup is as follows.
1 pack of Johnsonville hot Italian Sausage (removed from casing
1 pack of Johnsonville mild Italian sausage (removed from casing)
1 box of Swanson Chicken Broth
1 can of rotel tomatoes
1 can of canelli or navy beans (drained)
diced onion to taste (I just use about 1/4 small onion)
1 teaspoon oregano
garlic powder to taste
Fry the sausage and onions together until done in a soup pot. Drain off the fat. Add rest of the ingredients and cook for at least 30 minutes. Wonderful, quick, easy and satisfying on a cold day. Great with warm garlic bread or corn bread
I’m stopping at the store after work. It is bitter cold here. This weekend, we will have HIGHS in the single digits and our LOWS will be below zero temps. We’ll need plenty of warm foods to keep the chill away. I think I’ll make the beer cheese soup for my daughters Superbowl Sunday party….go Bears!
Thanks ppearson! And CatRancher, here are some more sausage soups…
http://web.foodnetwork.com/food/web/searchResults?searchString=sausage+soup&site=food&searchType=Recipe
Thank you ppearson it sounds so fantastic I wish I had seen the recipe before I went shopping this morning. I have to make it the next time my bro takes me shopping. I love anything with cheese I just bought some feta to have with my gyros and salad tonight.
Even though I am reluctant cook, I too like cheese type soups so I think I might even try to cook one of those receipes. It is in the 50’s here in San Francisco, Calif area. Nice balmy weather for those of you in the midwest and east coast. I have family in Michigan and am always hearing about the snow and the freezing temps. I went back there three years ago for a funeral in February and it was minus 8 degrees. For us Californians, cold is when it gets below 50 degrees so you can imagine how cold we were feeling at that low temp. Went to bed in three layers besides the blankets and comforters.
The soup recipes sound good! Is there anyway I can copy the recipes without copying all the responses. Did that once–took 32 pages!!!! Ok, so computer literacy is not my strong suit! I have wanted to copy some other things, but don’t know how. Thanks in advance.
Hunter is cute as a button! My cats love shoes too. It’s just they are too big to fit in them now!! My lady loves having her ears rubbed with bare feet! Puts her paw in the air by her ear when it’s done. Very funny to see. Will catch up in the morning. Was busy today. See ya tomorrow.
Click and hold the right mouse button and then drag over the text you want to copy, it will be highlighted. Click the left mouse button a popup menu will display allowing you to send the highlighted text to the printer or to copy it into a document (like Word) and then you can save it or print it.
CatRancher, you must be left-handed…
Lynn- switch left mouse button for right and vice versa… unless your mouse configuration is switched like it sounds CatRancher’s is. 😉
Thanks for the tips Catrancher and ellemeno. Catrancher, you must be left handed! I need to switch left for right. But it worked. Thanks to you both.

OMG! I didn’t read the part in the beginning that these were for cats I thought wow that first cheese one sounds great. I thought with a salad it would make a great lunch. The liver one I would take a flying pass on and I don’t want to smell Petey’s breath.
Thanks for the laugh Susan. THe recipe was supposed to go to ppearson about 10 comments above this. I would love to hear if somebody actually made any of these treats……………….for themselves 🙂
Cannot wait to try it! How’s this? College girls claimed their favorite midnight snack was frozen Girl Scout chocolate thin mints with beer. I was told don’t knock it till I tried it when I winced, but you know what? It works!
What a star!
Is he a Gonzo kitty?
Gonzo FUZZ!
(I would have said “Fear and Loafer-ing in Las Vegas,” but he’s holding a SNEAKER hostage!)
kittehs and stinky shoes:)
Cute little gray dude! What is it about cats and feet?
Our little Grace picks up coins in her mouth and drops them in my wife’s shoes. It’s adorable.
And “Hunter” is the perfect name for a cat.
That shoe must smell like someone he loves in order for him to be protecting it the way he is. He is precious. Give Ralph and Hunter a cuddle for me!
the solids blues (gray) always seem to have a mystic way to them. I took in my cousins cat when he got deployed to middle east and she is a solid blue and is different from any other cat I have owned, they make a very striking apperance. my little calico she is a total brat attacks shoes she has scared company at my house, she comes out from under the sofa and attacks someones shoes on her side kicking with all fours and doesnt let go. It is so funny the look on peoples faces when they get there feet attacked.
Hunter has stalked and caught his shoe and I’m sure will defend it to the end! I love the “don’t you even think about it ” look on his face. What a fierce cutie he is. My cats only like my daughter’s shoes and her boyfriend’s hats. How many of us would wear a different pair of shoes rather than take “his” shoe before he is tired of it?
:0!!! Of course I would!
OK, I am wierd, but the question seems so unnecessary. ‘Cats say, I’ll obey’ – that’s the motto in my house.
Hunter with his name so tough
Does kitty things of course
And I’m told he’s not so rough
By a reliable source.

I know these rhymes are most daft
But I’ll accept them as first draft.
Ivory Bill, I haven’t the time, energy, or forethought to compose whimsical poetry so please keep up the good work. I nominate you for resident poet and IT comes with a sash and scepter, not a tiara.
To Hunter, keep up the good work. Maybe your next post will be a pair of Jimmy Choo’s or Manalo Blanik’s?
I second that nomination Bill..Does this make it official? 🙂
All those in favor, would you please say “aye”;
All others, keep closed your holes for pie!
Aye !! I so enjoy the poetry.
Aye Aye!
Aye aye!
I third it! Aye!
I add my vote too!
Aye here and it looks like the “Ayes” have, (slam of gavel) done! Next order of business…..Hunter….what a cutie!
Wait for me, AYE to our poet, Ivory Bill!
Aye! Love the poetry Ivory Bill.
Aye! Keep up the great poetry.
Aye! Resident poet it is. How do you like that Ivory Bill?
We have also named him the BARD of TDK!
We the Circle of Friends at TDK,
crown you the Official Bard of TDK!
We all look for your poem of the day, Ivory Bill! (and I’m an information junkie, as well—glad you check out the posts!)
Aye
AYE!!!
Ivory Bill: Your poems are qute and witty. You truly deserve praise for them. 🙂
I am ready and willing to pass more titles and decorations. Who wants some? 😉
I look forward to seeing your “kittie witties” everyday. >^.^
He reminds me of my cat Whiskers. He looks just like her, blue grey like a Russian Blue. My current kitty, Sylvester cannot wait for me to take off my work shoes so he can stuff his face into them. He also loves to rub his face on my toes. I didn’t think cats would like stinky toes but he does. This morning he was playing with my tennis shoes. Darting a paw in and out as if there was a mouse in them. I had to go and check them to make sure their wasn’t a spider or something in them.
Oh… he is just too sweet for words! Interesting.. my Chloe has to particular affinity for shoes or feet. She will rub on anything!!!
That’s supposed to read “no” particular affinity… oops
We all stress and fret over a million things; meanwhile here’s Hunter, blissfully content just guarding his human’s footwear…Ah, for the carefree life of a cat?? 🙂
I couldn’t agree more with you Michael. I look at my cat and say in my next life I would like to come back as a cat that is in a household where they take extra good care of me.
I totally agree Michael. My cats are the path to heaven. They take me away from the worries of life. How do people without cats survive?
It’s odd being in a person’s home who does not have pets. The “chi” is all wrong! haha!
Rotten Human Being!
This is a link to a story in my local paper. The story made me cry, The fact that this punk was proud enough of his “accomplishment†scares me. (FWIW, HSPCA are Animal Planet’s “Animal Cops Houstonâ€). While I know that Houston has a lot of animal abuse, I fear this could have happened anywhere – we must keep our eyes and ears open,
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/chronicle/4513042.html
This was on the news here this morning and a friend and I were just talking about it (we live in Houston). I think that person should be tied to a tree and dismembered. I can’t stand it that people are so cruel to animals. @$$hole!!!
I heard it on KTRH today. Tie the @$%^%^&^ to a tree, but let the pit bull do the dismembering!
Dude needs some “Texas Justice.” Who wants to get in line behind me?
*raises hand*
Let’s do it!!!
I’d be right there with you
I’m in.
I suppose that would be Texas Justice done Okie style
I’m in. I’m for hanging the dude, after what he did! I’ll supply the rope.
I had no idea that there was a Houston TDK contingent! Wow!!
Any of you H-town girls single? 🙂
(Only semi-kidding)
Wouldn’t it be great if there happened to be a love match via TDK? We could all watch the wedding on our webcams…
Hey Dee,
And the wedding party could include their cats in the ceremony! lol
I’m happily divorced, Bill.
I am single again, myself
Interested in a cat loving elf?
Happily single again I am
(‘tho sometimes it makes me sigh)
Not sure my post was appropriate
But I had to try.
Maybe they should hang the guy up and let the dog dismember him.
Hunter is an adorable gaurd kitty.
That was on the news here this morning as well. I really dispair for the future of humans if this kind of thing goes on. It makes me wonder hwere this sort of behavior and attitude towards living things is learned. I feel for this jerks parents, i would be horrified.
Jennifer in NH–I’d bet anything that his “parents” are the type of people you’d see on an episode of “Cops.” I’d bet his childhood has been filled with drug and alcohol abusing parents, and riddled with wholesale violence. A person that young with that much unadulterated hatred and cruelty within him learned that somewhere. Unless he is afflicted with psychosis, and he is not being treated, I’d believe he is horribly cruel–something he learned from his parents. Cruelty can not exist in a vacuum and cruelty is exponential.
I’ve been visiting the website for a while and been too chicken to comment on all of the cuteness that is presented daily, but the link on the animal abuse story in Houston has prompted me to comment. Pardon my French, but I do believe that there is a special place in H*ll for all of the animal abusers out there.
On a happer note, Hunter is adorable–my Stormy loves all of my shoes and ends up sleeping on top of them sometimes!
I agreen Susan S. Anyone who receives pleasure or amusement at the suffering of an animal is dangerous to all living things.
I couldn’t agree more with your statement but I was shocked that I understood french since I took latin in HS!
Welcome aboard I am glad that you joined this most fun and friendly group.
hee-hee-hee….oui, I never knew that what I was hearing was French…wow…
This “Bas—d” needs to be tied to a tree and have fire ants or some animal nasty that would give him a very slow and painful death. I cannot begin to comprehend why people want to do such a horrifying thing to another animal. I hope they throw the book at him and lock him away for the rest of his life in the worst type of prisonment possible. I hope the cat manage to bite and scratch the guy really good. God rest the poor cat.
Sorry for the intensity of my comment but it just gets me so mad!
Ivory bill,
I know all too well about this kind of thing. I have witnessed it. It is not something you can forget. The vision stays in your mind. I had a feral cat that we had been feeding for about 3 to 5 years. He was such a cute cat, a siamese tabby of sorts. One day, I heard something and I went to investigate. It was a pack of dogs up to no good. I ran upstairs, to put my shoes on and seen what they had. The blood drained from my body and my heart stopped. They had a cat. I went running out the door so fast with a pole to run them off, for I couldn’t find a weapon right quick. They didn’t want to leave. I hoped for the best, that the cat would be alive but he wasn’t. I could hardly tell who it was, until I looked into his eyes. The poor thing never had no one but us. I miss him coming for dinner and laying in cute poses on the porch.
Oh Renee – how horrible!! Your post made me cry and give my own two an extra squeeze.
Oh Renee, I am so sorry you had to experience that horrible event. The people who own the dogs should be in jail for letting their dogs roam around. I use to live in studio in an old house that had been converted and had a nice large back yard that my cat and the building three other cats would sit and sun themselves. Next door was a small parking lot for the office building and across from the parking lot was a woman who use to feed all the feline strays in the area. Well, some idiot let his rottweiler dog roam the neighborhood and once it knew about the cats it would come to see if it could chase any. Once it came into the back yard at my place and was barking at my cat who had been peacefully sunning herself on the backsteps of my studio. I ran out the door to view this. I yelled at the dog and it wouldn’t budge. I was so angry that I charged the dog yelling at it the whole time. It still wouldn’t budge till I almost reached the dog and then it finally trotted away. I was angry I didn’t care or think about how the dog could have mauled me.
Karin,
My husband called the police but they wouldn’t even file a report let alone come over. I’ve had dogs try to attack me, I just defend myself.
I was eating lunch when i read this. Now I no longer have an appetite…. 🙁
They better keep an eye on this so called human being cause he is going to go on to bigger prey. Statistically this is a fact!
OK Bill, you love cats, you cry, you write adorable ditties, are you married??
Am I married?
Currently not
Miss the fighting
Not a lot.
Its too bad
I just can’t find
Someone who’ll
Put up with my mind!
This makes me so sick. I shouldn’t have read the story because I am over sensitive to animal cruelty.
I REALLY prefer animals to most humans. :'(
Converse sneakers are ok, mon
But I am looking for Cole-Haan.
No shoe for you! FUZZ
Converse spokeskitty FUZZ
haha! Seinfeld–my favorite show, ever!

Beautiful quote. I needed that after the cat story.
Another one of my favorites…thanks, Dee.
Dee, that is lovely. I am going to save it 🙂
Cats and shoes… I think we all relate to that one.. My Duchess will roll around on my shoes, making little trill noises the whole time! 🙂
That is so cute Caroline! My kitty trills sometimes too. I can just imagine your cat doing it. 🙂

**Dogs get own beach on holiday island**
Wed Jan 31, 8:54 AM ET
NICOSIA (Reuters) – Dogs are to get a beach of their own on the sun-kissed Mediterranean island of Cyprus.
Dogs are strictly prohibited from the holiday island’s shoreline to keep the beaches clean for bathers, but Cypriot authorities have decided enough of the dog’s life.
They are looking for suitable beaches where people and their pets can enjoy the sun and sea without falling foul of other beachgoers.
The Ombudsman, a commissioner usually tasked with upholding human rights, recommended to authorities last year that dogs should get their own bathing space, the daily Phileleftheros reported.
Please go easy on the cheese. It is not too good for cats. Still ‘ a little of what you fancy do’snt do you any harm. Well up to a point.
Oh, I hope Al moves into his owl box! Does anyone have owls in their yard?
**Al the tolerant owl moves into Ore. home**
Tue Jan 30, 9:48 PM ET
EUGENE, Ore. – Saws buzz and carpenters hammer nails, set up ladders and run an air generator. Al doesn’t give a hoot. The brownish Western screech-owl showed up at Laura Fenimore’s house as she began adding what will be her new great room.
“I thought the construction noise, the dog or the power tools would scare him off, but the next day he comes right back,” said Fenimore, 50, a lawyer who works from home.
But it seems Al is handy to have around. He doesn’t make a mess, he isn’t noisy and he helps with rodent control.
When she moved into her house in 2000, Fenimore spent a couple of years battling mice, and hired exterminators who shooed them into burrows in her backyard.
But now the yard has been completely uprooted for the remodel.
“This is like feast time for Mr. Owl,” Fenimore said. “I sure hope he stays.”
The bird, which is full-grown and about eight inches high, seems well-fed as he rests with his feathers puffed among the plywood beams.
A volunteer from a Cascade Raptor Center dropped by and tried to nab Al with a net but gave up when the bird retreated into an attic.
“The owl is under the impression that he is camouflaged,” said education coordinator Kit Lacy, adding that the center gets several such calls a year.
Al keeps a weather eye on Fenimore’s small dog, Dottie, but doesn’t move.
Workers run an air generator a few yards from his spot, set up ladders and saw boards; Al goes nowhere.
“The queerest thing about him is that he just seems to tolerate everything,” said Fenimore, who first spotted the owl in late fall. “If it gets really noisy he’ll take off, but he always comes back.”
Owls rely on hearing when they hunt, so Lacy believes the racket is probably very amplified for the feathered hunter, but said, “It must be working for him.”
The species prefers living inside a tree cavity, so a recess within Fenimore’s rafters fills the bill, Lacy said.
But people typically chop down trees with holes, believing them to be rotten, so owl habitat is growing scarce, she said.
The raptor center sells wooden owl boxes that mimic a tree cavity for $45, and provides free building plans. Nesting season begins soon, she said.
Lacy said the Western screech owl is known to thrive in suburban areas. Many wind up in the center’s veterinary hospital after run-ins with cats and cars.
Despite its name, the Western screech owl actually does not screech; it has a soft, pleasant call, she said. The bird feeds on mice, insects and other small animals.
But Al is facing eviction.
The great room is to be closed off with a glass wall in a week or two, giving the owl no way in or out.
Fenimore bought an owl box and hung it in a pear tree in her backyard, but Lacy said there is no guarantee the owl will take to the box.
“I hate the thought of dispossessing him,” Fenimore said. “We go every morning to see if he’s still there.”
We have an owl and two hawks.
My crazy ex-husband had owls as pets. They were VERY cool animals.

Going back to the greek theme yesterday, here is the recipe for Arni Fornou.
Arni Fournou
Greek Islands
Ingredients:
4 lbs Lamb (we recommend lamb shanks about 1lb each)
2 lbs sliced potatoes
1 cup chopped tomato
3 oz. chopped garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 cup lemon juice (fresh)
1 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon oregano
Directions:
Simply mix the above ingredients in a deep baking pan, fully coating the lamb in the marinade. Preheat oven to 275-325° F (depending on the actual heat that a home oven produces). Bake the lamb for 2 hours, turning the pieces over after the first hour. Serve the lamb with the potatoes and use a bit of the remaining juices to pour over the dish.

I am working a three month temporary assignment at a large biotech firm. I am wondering if any of them have seen this article. I will ask around with some of the other admins.
Wow! I would think it would be big news there—I would think it would be bigger news, period.
Karin, let us know what some of your co-workers say about this. We would value your input. Thanks.
Yes Dee! I saw it on our local news! YAY for CANADA! and the world, hopefully 🙂
THE GREAT BLUE HUNTER!
He’s adorable!
speaking of shoes (and socks), how embarassing would this be?!

Wow, I read the article “Cheap Safe Drugs Kills Most Cancers”. It could be the answer if it were really true! I could see where pharmaceutical companies may not want the news to get out.
Here’s another article of a “cure”, but try not to laugh too hard! It reminds me of the “apricot pit” cancer cure that was creating sensations back in the 80’s.

Wow! (and we really do have a Greek theme going here today, eh?)
Brittany posted late yesterday about Bo’s condition–not certain if everyone read it—here is the post again…

Hey there everybody,
Just to let you know, between you TKDer’s and a couple people on Catster, we’ve gotten 200$ so far. I know that there are at least 3 more people mailing in there donations. But 200$!! Woo hoo! That’s incredible, that’s almost enough to cover Bo’s entire vet bill! Right now we’re going to try to work on getting people to help us get Bo to Pennsylvania. He is still at the vet’s office, apparantly the stitches are pulling on the skin and tearing through it, and if Bo messes with it and pulls out the stitches, they will have to re-do his surgery. Which means more recovery time, hopefully he’ll be better soon. He has certainly had his share of battles. He is still in good spirits though, still purring the day away and getting attention from anybody who passes his cage. Thank you again for all of your kindness and generousity.
~Brittany
I’ve been crazy busy at work lately… so I misplaced where I should send a donation… Could you please post it again? Thanks!! caroline
Caroline: this is part of Brittany’s post from Friday…
They have a paypal account that everybody can send donations to, if you’re not comfortable with doing it over the internet, e-mail me at bmtiz92 AT aim DOT com and we can make other arrangements.

Thanks Dee! 🙂
I find it hard to believe that people just don’t understand that a chidl/adult/whatever that will abuse a animal will have no problem doing the same thing to a child. If we didn’t something with that child pulling wings off flies at age 7 then we wouldn’t have to deal with him as an adult killing humans.
And by something, I mean treatment.
That is SO true. A co-worker from a job I held long ago had a 5 year old nephew who killed the family’s hamster by hurling it against a wall. I told my co-worker to please tell her sister, the boy’s mother, to get that kid into therapy! She never did. Well, last I heard, at 16 he had dropped out of high school, was doing drugs and had joined a gang—where I’m certain he was enmeshed in other acts of violence. These acts of violence perpetrated by young people are very foreboding…
Treatment for a 7-year-old? At that age, you paddle their butt, that’s what you do.
Most 7 year old children are not capable of that sort of violence, and most are especially sensitive to animals. Any child who would kill an animal in a fit of temper needs to be checked for mental illness and put into therapy. Hitting them in retaliation only reinforces the belief that might makes right, and that the strong may do to the weak whatever they will. Not good.
I agree with you Susan. Violence only begets violence. I also agree about the reinforcing part. It confuses a child when you hit them in retaliation for them doing something wrong.
In keeping with the Greek theme, I just received this recipe from Nubella.com–relatively healthy pizza for Super Bowl! Very nice site with up-to-date info on health issues and good healthful recipes. Susan and Renee in Ark–this would be a nice site to bookmark…

Oh my goodness, reading all these great recipes is making me hungry and I’m trying to lose weight. Oh well, off to the fridge.
ok. One more recipe and I am back to kitten/cat only chatter. One more sausage soup recipe for CatRancher. (I love soup and if it werer totally up to me would probably eat some sort of soup every day)
POLISH SAUSAGE SOUP (TOO EASY!)
1 can (15 oz) kidney beans (drained)
1 can chicken broth
1 can diced tomatoes
1 cup Pace picante sauce
1/2 pound Kielbasa in 1/4 inch slices
3 cups chopped cabbage
1 cup chopped onion
3/4 t or more chili powder
Combine all ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer
20-30 minutes. Add additional ingredients as preferred. (Chopped celery,
carrots, broccoli, sweet peppers, Italian green beans, zucchini, etc.)
ppearson–I love soup, too. Here is one of the best soups I’ve made–I’ve only used beef, though–not the beef/pork mixture. And, as you can see on the site, it’s received excellent reviews!

Looks like one of my favorites, Italian Wedding soup. It might end up on this weekends menu!
thanks ppearson! I love cabbage, too, so this is a must make!
I almost lost my lunch while reading about that monster who murdered the poor cat. I am tempted to cut out of work to run home to pile extra love and affection on my calico. It’s too bad we have only their short life spans during which to show our cats how much they are loved. I wish they lived longer. Mine is “geriatric” at 11 yrs old, but still shows her frisky side when she sees a shoe lace. I want her to live forever. My calico is like Hunter and LOVES shoes. The first time my dad came over to visit us for a weekend, he took off his shoes and Nico promptly went and stuck her head inside and then rolled and rubbed all over them, purring loudly. Keep protecting your shoe, Hunter!!! Good kitty!!!
He’s just waiting for his Cinderella!
I LOVE all the recipes on here today!!!
We’re expecting snow/freezing rain tomorrow afternoon, and what a great time for me to make a few of these things! YUMMY!!!
Thank you everyone!
Where do you live Caddycat? I am in the Atlanta area and we are to get freezing rain and/or snow tonight changing to rain tomorrow afternoon.
Cute! He is thinking of the meaning of life 🙂
Do I see a wine rack behind Hunter? Or is that an umbrella? Maybe he, like his namesake, likes to alter his state!
It’s a wine rack. I noticed it too – lol.
I noticed the wine rack also and thought how appropriate for a Gonzo Kitty named Hunter!
**’Harry Potter’ Shows Buff Bod In Nude Scene**
Radcliffe To Have Nude Scene In Upcoming Play
POSTED: 5:18 pm PST January 30, 2007
Underneath his wizard’s outfit, Harry Potter is hiding a six-pack.
Daniel Radcliffe’s been working out, getting ready for his nude scenes in the play “Equus” in London. The 17-year-old actor posed without his shirt and glasses for a series of sexy shots to plug the show that opens Feb. 27.
The play’s producer told People magazine that he’s “gobsmacked at how suddenly he turned into this swan.”
“To have a six-pack like that at that age, when some people try for 25 years to get one … we were gobsmacked,” producer David Pugh told People.
Not only will the “Potter” star appear on stage nude, but he will have a sex scene in the dramatic play.
HAHA! Is this near you in Iowa, CatRancher?
**Drunk Driver Arrested On Icy River**
POSTED: 9:58 am PST January 31, 2007
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Clinton man was charged with drunken driving after officials say he drove his vehicle onto the ice-covered Mississippi River near Sabula.
Steven A. Parker, 51, is accused of driving his sports utility vehicle off a boat ramp to do “doughnuts” on Sunday when the ice broke and his vehicle sank in 4 feet of water, about 30 feet from shore, said officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Parker and his son, Steven A. Parker, Jr., 28, of Waynesville, N.C., made it safely back to land.
Parker is charged with third-offense drunken driving and driving with a revoked license.
Yee-haw….Cedar Rapids is right up the road and I used to work in Clinton, Iowa (about a 25 minute commute) where the guy is from…this does not surprise me at all…we have plenty of yokels here…
interesting quiz–“how well do you know your coffee?”
http://encarta.msn.com/quiz_244/Morning_Coffee_Quiz.html?GT1=8921
I got 6 out 10 right on the coffee quiz. It says I am “warming up”. The company where I am temping gives its employees free coffee and tea. We even have a Kona blend which I drink every day. I can drink till my blue eyes turn brown or float away which ever happens first.
I got 9 out of 10 (“extra hot”). As far as coffee goes, if it melts the spoon, it’s almost strong enough!
Hi Dee!
It’s snowing here, like crazy! How are you today?
You reminded me of a song yesterday, when you said, we’re old. Nah, just older. The song stuck in my head all day, I’m still humming it!
Hey ppearson, what did you mean yesterday, by crop til you drop?
Is it “craft” humor? lol
Crop til you drop is a scrapbooking term. Refers to cutting down your pictures to get to the essence of the image. Scrap bookers tend to get together for group “crops” where you share ideas, materials, encouragement and oh yeah food!
Ok, Thanks. I’ve never heard that phrase before.
I miss snow. It’s cold for Florida today–in the 60’s.
I don’t think we’re old at all–I think people in their 20’s think we’re old–as I thought 40 somethings were ancient when I was in my 20’s.
As I said yesterday old to me now that I am almost 57 is 3 years past rigor mortis. I figure I didn’t have that great of a childhood so I am going to do it again.
Hunter is so cute. Love the photo. I had a kitten who used to love to sit in my shoes. I actually got a picture of her in it! I just happen to have the camera handy.
**Bottled Water for $90**
Tap water’s free, bottled water’s a few bucks…but this pimped out bottle’s 50-60 bucks, and up to 90 dollars at the club, that’s, like 4 dollars a sip.
Saturday, January 27, 2007
BEVERLY HILLS, CA (Reuters) – Regular bottled water is, like, so yesterday.
Enter Bling H20 Beverly Hills, California. Luxury water…that, let’s face it, it will end up very pricey.
Tap water’s free, bottled water’s a few bucks…but this pimped out bottle’s 50-60 bucks, and up to 90 dollars at the club, that’s, like 4 dollars a sip. But it’s so now. Paris Hilton even gave her dog some…after having the Swarovski crystals customized for her little chihuahua Tinkerbell.
A tourist said, “It just says ‘Bling beverages Beverly Hills,’ I don’t know if any waterfalls or springs in Beverly Hills that would produce really great water, so it sounds like it comes from the tap or something.”
Duh, of course it’s not from the tap. It’s from Tennessee, from an award winning spring that is said to have perfect pH balance and a, like, totally sweet taste.
Bling’s founder hopes that regular folks who like to spend money and celebs will gulp down the latest product offered in the uber-rich celebrity marketing machine.
Kevin Boyd, Bling H2O founder said,”If you really think about it, there’s no difference in going to a nightclub and having a 350 dollar bottle of fancy vodka, or having a 50 dollar bottled water in your hand. The perceived value is probably about the same.”
Bling’s founder knows that dropping all those coins for a bottle of water isn’t for everyone…but that’s why he says other people can drink the Bling out of a plastic bottle and still feel like a superstar.
Paris Hilton fills her accessory-dog’s bowl with $50 bottled water, and meanwhile, all over the world, there are children starving, families with no place to live, and homeless people freezing to death under viaducts.
I don’t know who I think is more of a waste of a zygote: the guy who’s getting rich from this idiocy, or the “celebs” who are MAKING him rich.
(Please pardon my attitude problem today; I’m in an unnecessarily serious mood, and the mere mention of the name “Paris Hilton” is enough to drive me to paroxysms of rage on a GOOD day. But it’s nothing against you, Dee–I love your news stories and (especially!) your recipes!)
Gladys: no offense taken. This should cheer you up; your great state of Illinois now has a law that took effect January 1, 2007 that will prevent dogs from being used as weapons. Here is a link for everyone to thank them.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/424308762?z00m=9410749&z00m=9410749<l=1170277676
I’m with you, Gladys…the fact that “P.H.” can even generate a news article on what she drinks is enough to make me want to spit!
I agree with both Gladys and CatRancher. P.H. is not worth time or effort to read about whatever she does. Both her and her mother need to have their brains examined.
Sorry to be so judgemental but like Gladys it makes me angry to hear and see these young rich kids living off of daddy’s or granddaddy’s money and not putting the money to good use to help the hungry, homeless, and mentally challenged people to name just a few issues that are happening here even in a country as rich as the United States.
My parents volunteer to help with the homeless situation in their town and they live on a fixed income. They spend the valuable time (my Dad is 73) helping organize a place for them sleep, to shower and to rehumanize. That took alot of time and committee meetings to make it happen. I would like to see and hear someone like P.H. do this kind of work instead of partying her life away.
Okay, I am done and will come down from the soap box now so someone else can use it.
Karin you said everything I believe so I don’t need to climb on the box thank you for expressing yourself so well.
What I want to know…. is why do we even have to know who PH is? And I agree the fact that she is ‘news’ is absurd.
Here we go again–another animal abuser! Sick, souless monster! (the radio stations are saying that one starving dog ate the other…)
http://www.tampabays10.com/news/specials/popular/article.aspx?s=popular&storyid=48373
Some people are just so wrong. I cant stand seeing anything hungry. My cats have an endless supply of dry vittles to munch on when they wish. The feral cat I take care eats a lot better than some people do. And to abuse an animal-I believe what comes around, goes around !!!!!!!
Thanks for the picture of “Hunter” – I am sure that brillant and so entertaining author would be pleased. Can we have a photo that shows his face more ??? Guarding shoes – one of mine guards and sleeps on my house slippers. Thanks for all the wonderful kittens, it’s so great to hear about them and see what they are named. I have six previously ferals – they are shy with visitors, but lovely and loveable to me and family. a.
Has anybody seen the book about Hunter S. Thompson’s cat? It’s by Ralph Steadman, and entitled The Book of Jones: A Tribute to the Mercurial, Manic, and Utterly Seductive Cat (Amazon link here). IThe book has wonderful line art illustrations of Jones the cat.
Oh, how cool! Thanks, Allan!
I am going to check this book out. Just from reading the front and back panels, it sounds interesting. I have three other books to get through before I get another one.
**useless facts!**
Ants closely resemble human manners: When they wake, they stretch & appear to yawn in a human manner before taking up the tasks of the day.
Bees have 5 eyes. There are 3 small eyes on the top of a bee’s head and 2 larger ones in front.
Count the number of cricket chirps in a 15-second period, add 37 to the total, and your result will be very close to the actual outdoor Fahrenheit temperature.
One-fourth of the world’s population lives on less than $200 a year. Ninety million people survive on less than $75 a year.
Butterflies taste with their hind feet.
Only female mosquito’s’ bite and most are attracted to the color blue twice as much as to any other color.
The female uses blood to fertilize her eggs. The male buzzes the female doesn’t so when you don’t hear anything look out!
I have a beautiful Russian Blue named King Humphrey Bogman (after the late great Humphrey Bogart). Hunter could be his baby brother!!! What an adorable picture. Bog loves my dress shoes that I wear to work, but my other two kittens (Georgie Girl and Spot) prefer my sneakers! Spot sleeps in my sneakers and George will drag them around! Great picture!!!
Here is a petition to sign to list the polar bear as “threatened”.

Adorable little gray kitty. I loved his story (and owner’s sense of humor :))
Uh-oh. Did you hear that Sienna Miller dropped the “F-bomb” on the Today show this morning?
thank you Dee I thought I was just hearing things…………
It looks like “Medium” is going to be pretty cool tonight, CatRancher! It reminds me of the old “Talking Tina” doll episode on Twilight Zone…

Wow–this is what threw Boston into chaos today!
**Boston Devices a Cartoon Marketing Ploy**
Jan 31 5:02 PM US/Eastern
BOSTON (AP) — At least nine electronic devices, planted at bridges and other parts of Boston as part of a marketing campaign for a late-night cartoon, threw a scare into the city Wednesday.
Highways, bridges and a section of the Charles River were shut down and bomb squads were sent in before authorities declared the devices were harmless.
“It’s a hoax _ and it’s not funny,” said Gov. Deval Patrick.
Turner Broadcasting, parent company of Cartoon Network, said the devices, which consisted of magnetic, blinking lights, were part of a promotion for the TV show “Aqua Teen Hunger Force.”
I’ll bet whoever came up with that brilliant idea is pink slipped! What were they thinking in this day and age!
If only The Tick and Arthur were there to save The City. Spoon! (Anyone remember The Tick cartoon?)
I do! One of my favorites. I really gotta find that on dvd…
Cartoon and live action Tick are available at Amazon
I remember the Tick cartoon. They played in on the Nick at Night channel..I forget the exact name of the channel.
prefer Wonder Dog myself 🙂
Yeah, yesterday was quite the day listening to the news. It’s terrifying to be thinking all day about unidentified devices that could or could not be bombs in the major city in the area. It seriously shut down some major roads and slowed traffic down a great deal. jerks. On the upside, the response time was amazing! Kudos to the Boston Police Force.
Is Hunter’s brother, Ralph, named for Emerson? My kitty is named Henry David, so I love that you named this guy after Hunter S. Thompson.
I love Hunter, this guy is one of the most adorable kitties I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hunter is a precious little boy. What a cutie patootie!
Yes, Hunter is absolutely ADORABLE! What a cutie!
Awww…… hes so adorable!!
look familiar?
HA! Hunter Thompson and his brother Ralph Steadman! You must have your hands full. As your attorney, I must advise you to huff these kittens every day.
LoL – absolutely classic, ‘Oscar’…
Gorgeous babe! I wouldn’t dare to mess with his shoe! 😀
This is my sneaker !!! Mine, Mine !!! Go get your own !!!
He’s defending your shoes against the bats!
Thanks everyone. Hunter is indeed a gonzo kitten, and that is a wine rack behind him – fortunately he hasn’t worked out how to get into the bottles. Yet 😉
What happened to today’s kitten? Website issues, Kittenmaster?
He’s online… can you not see the lovely Mr Otis?
Nope. Still showing Hunter on my end
Gonzo Cat!!!
Excellent commentary!
Hunter is perfectly charming! I hope he can keep his catnip habit moderate, unlike his namesake. And your shoe looks well protected.
My cat likes shoes too! He likes to lay by them.
awwww what a sweetie…he’s too cute and i love your write up on him.
Fearsome kitty! So cute when they think they are guarding our (or is it their?) possessions.
omg that looks just like my kitten shadow!
too cute!
He’s just cute. He looks just like our cat, “Smither’s” AKA Spanky. I just luv the daily kitten. Always makes my day feel better!
HE HEE!!!
me like likie the little kitty??!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My granddaughter calls my kittens the “Beep Beeps” because her little sister is the baby! So I have Beep Beep 1, Beep Beep 2 and Beep Beep 3!
Very cute..I have a big boy named Gonzo..also after the wonderful Mr. HST…
